MemberJazeman has won his 6th race (out of 12) of the 2007 Formula BMW Asia series thus maintaining his championship lead at Sentul.
Well done.
Also to add some pride for the jalur gemilang, Aaron Lim also won at Sentul in the Formula V6 Renault on Saturday making him the first Malaysian to win in the series.
Let’s hope that there are more Malaysians coming up the ranks particularly from karting.

Zahir Ali
Zahir AliIndonesian Zahir Ali (20/Team TARADTM) clinched the Driver Classification today in the final round of the 2007 Formula BMW Asia series, while South African Formula BMW Junior Kyle Mitchell (16/Eurasia Motorsport) won the Rookie Cup title after a superb final showdown with fellow Junior Hong Kong’s Ross Jamison (17/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus).
After Round 22, and following receipt of a post-race scrutineering report, Race Stewards issued a Decision to exclude the cars of Jazeman Jaafar (MAS/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) and Jack Lemvard (THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) for a technical infringement of the regulations. In view of the severity of the offence and the fact that the same team had contravened the Technical Regulations on an earlier occasion during the season, the Decision also included the exclusion of CIMB Team Qi-Meritus from the Formula BMW Asia Series 2007.
The Decision put Malaysian teenager Jazeman 2nd in the Driver Classification at the end of the season, just one point behind Ali. James Grunwell (18/THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus), like Ali completing his second Formula BMW Asia season, finished 3rd in the Driver Classification, with Rookie Cup winner Mitchell 4th.
Jazeman.. asian recognize you as a “World class driver”

ParticipantWow I wonder what it was this time. :O
Doesn’t look good for anyone involved.
Really, really bad for the reputation of the team especially.

ParticipantIts just mind boggling! The report said team Meritus committed the same infringement during the Indon leg and now in rd 22….but no details on actually what is was about……..what a shame when Meritus have a crop of very good drivers!

Participantwonder why they want to do all these when they have good drivers? ain’t trusting your drivers being fast enough?

ParticipantIt was a “gear selector spring” apparently that wasn’t spec according to star.

..so any idea how this “not to spec stupid spring” will give them an unfair advantage?…serious enough to exclude them.
Its amazing how the scrutineers can detect this “not to spec spring”.

I’m really only guessing here but slightly faster shifting possibly. Probably not worth an amazing amount over a single lap but over a race distance even 0.02 seconds a lap adds up in spec racing.Of course it is possible that it was mistakenly put in the cars but there has to be some ill-intent one would think for them to be thrown out of the championship if that was likely?

Nothing too amazing I wouldn’t think. The scrutineers are supposed to be able to detect anything that is illegal. The gearbox is spec like the rest of the car and I think they only have a certain amount of gear sets they’re allowed to use so they are checked fairly often.
because we are Malaysian….. 😕
I don’t see how or why Nationality would have anything to do with it. The other driver wasn’t Malaysian.6 November 2007 at 12:23 am #6043RawFlesh
ParticipantF1 can have their Spygate drama. So, not to be left out F BMW also have to create their own drama 😉 I dunno….
Could’ve been a mistake, but in spec racing, everyone’s spose to be the same, if not the same, whether give advantage or not, it’s an illegal car.

ParticipantI do remember reading in the Sunday Star an article in which Jazeman stated his practice and qualifying time was reduced because he had gearbox problems… I believe he lost about 30 minutes of track time whilst getting it fixed… so, now it seems like the “fix” has got him in a “fix”!
I’d love to know more details and justification as to how a mere spring could enhance his performance and give him the edge against others…

..Yeah I guess, thats the bottom line ….rule are rules, too bad Jazeman!, hopefully this incident will be forgotten and gone.
