A small commentary on the eve
A small commentary on the event from my POV (before my proper blog report). Had good fun with a number of plusses:

great competition

efficient turnaround

very cooperative members

great amount of volunteer work – thanks to all of you (you know who you are!)

thanks Simon for donating the printer (nevermind it not working – we shall get it right next time)

great action after the k2 incidents – special thanks to Brian E for being ambulance driver

and of course my win was a big booster for me!

great discussion & fellowship at Agora after the race
Some points for improvement:

two incidents due to brakes??

need operators to properly check karts for brakes

to emphasise to drivers to apply more caution in racing

operators to have trained first aider and well stock first aid kit

must test equipment before events (Simon – sorry to put blame on you when it is really me who should’ve tested before the event)
Feel free to have your say!

Drat, I just missed out on points, and kiki kicked our arse in Final B! Bad day, bad day 🙁 hahaha
After the race, I stayed on for some winter testing. Left the track at 6pm (reached there 7:25am!).
After the incidents in the K2, maybe it would be a good idea to make racing suits and rib protector compulsory? I think if those involved in the incidents did not have gloves & suits on, it could have been much worse.

Whoa. You guys are really serious about testing!
You are right about proper suits & protection for the K2 category. I would say that suits, gloves, full face helmets, rib protectors are highly encouraged & recommended. But what is more important is knowing the limits of the kart and the conditions.
I had trouble getting the hang of my kart 27 in the first qualifying, but had opted to take a few laps to figure out the braking (was not too firm) and accelarator (which did not ease when you lifted off). As a consequence I dropped several places at the start (started on pole), and had to claw back once I figured out the peculiarities. I’ve been involved in a painful incident and was not intending to rush headlong trusting the kart (that I have not driven) too much!
Well done to Kiki too for a strong showing.

Fazz, congrats to u for a well derserved win (Vibrating Salute….!). It was indeed another fun filled weekened due to the electric atmosphere. Accidents or incidents such as the ones yesterday (could be worse though) is bound to happen in any racing event even under the most organised mangement incluidng F1. What is key is the continous effort to instil discipline for all to adhere to certain racing ethics. Of the many I would ask all fellow mykarters to specifically avoid front to rear wheel contact during overtaking or risk flying over the racer in front. As you have repeatedly said, the overtaker must be responsible as there are no rear view mirrors.
On another matter is the frustration of a few who are not able to start the race together in K2 rolling starts due to some kart problems. I would suggest a few steps to address it:
1) When its too far to catch up for the K2 formation lap, let the late starter join the race with the others as soon as they pass the track entry point on lap 1. For this we need someone to signal to the racer when to enter the track. This is a bit like the F1 rule for pit stop starts.
2) Or do a standing start like it was for K3 subject to a waiting time limit.
Just my observations to ensure everyone had their fun (Big grin…)
Re: A small commentary on the eve
Fazz, congrats to u for a well derserved win (Vibrating Salute….!).
Thanks! It was indeed a satisfying win. As always, my cautious start to the race paid a lot of dividends. I didn’t even attempt to fight for the first turn, but opted to see how the other drivers tripped over each other. I slipped by a number of karts during the 2nd corner melee. By the end of the first lap I found myself quite well up. Had a good dice with all the drivers I had to pass for position, and we all gave each other lots of room. Great stuff!

Racing is still a dangerous sport. This is an important thing to remember. So it is a real mindset that needs to be cultivated.
This is a mindset that we have to constantly mould in mykarters. During the lunch after the event, I was having a discussion about the direction of mykart with Deanna (who turned up for lunch/teh tarik) and a number of other mykarters, and we agreed that the attitude of mykart drivers are in general better than most in motorsports. We agreed that mykart has a strong role in motorsports in Malaysia in a sense that we promote the “professional approach & attitudes” in an industry where egos are the size of ocean liners (it takes a woman to give this perspective).
On another matter is the frustration of a few who are not able to start the race together in K2 rolling starts due to some kart problems.
Agreed! I believe responsibility is for the front row drivers to maintain a pace to allow drivers to catch up.
We will need volunteers for this, but most importantly for drivers to really understand their own location on the track vis a viz the main bunch. When I was leading the bunch, I saw Tarmizi who quite smartly waited for us to get by – given the relative distance (I too have done the same). I saw him slowly entering the track and instantly understood what he was doing and quickly got ahead of him. Again, this was what I talked about at lunch in relation to moulding drivers into a complete “package”.
2) Or do a standing start like it was for K3 subject to a waiting time limit.
Disagree with this one as this will cause problems for the 100cc karts which are not designed to idle/stationary for too long.
Just my observations to ensure everyone had their fun (Big grin…)
I am glad you did so, and hope everybody did as well!
