AKOC & Support race

Thanks to Citykarting, we will have an added twist to the Round 8 race: successful drivers in round 8 will be eligible to compete in the support race for the AKOC (organised by CityKarting) on 25th September. See link for more info:
http://www.citykarting.com/updates.htm

The support race for the AKOC will be held on Sunday 25th Sept. This will be a sort of shoot out from the top 5 finishers of both the K2 and K3 classes in Round 8 plus 5 other championship drivers (prizes donated by CityKarting).

Karts will be ballotted and assigned on the evening before (24th Sept), and weights and tuning would be done then. Eligible drivers will have the chance to test and fine tune their karts on Saturday evening before the karts go into parc ferme in preparation for the Sunday’s race.

The AKOC Support Race will be done on K3 ( the NEW 80cc karts )…..with weights for a 130kg driver+kart+fuel POST race condition. ( i.e. weighing after each run )

We are required to pay RM100 per pax.

This will be a good chance to see if the K2 boys are indeed faster than the K3 gurus!

As for the RM100 – yes this is correct. As mentioned at round 8, you will have a free practice session on Saturday evening (although there is a driver registration & presentation on Saturday morning). There will be 2 support races in Sunday.

9. We had a spectacular race on
We had a spectacular race on Sunday evening. Hats off to all my-KARTers for showing that we are evenly competitive and can race well.

We ran a 5 lap qualifying, followed by a 10 lap sprint race and finished up with a 15 lap final (almost like A1GP format).

Unfortunately, I do not have any of the results so cannot share with all of you.

In qualifying, I think it was:
1. Muhaymin
2. Alexander McNab
3. Huffiz
4. Jules
5. Fazz
…..

In the sprint race, it was:
1. Huffiz
2.
3.
4.
5. Fazz

In the final….
1. Muhaymin
2. Huffiz
3. Jules
4. Azmee
5. Faez
….

I have a great event, except for an error of judgement a couple of laps towards the end of the final race. Tried to overtake Faez for 3rd, round the outside of the second last turn, but clipped Faez which resulted in me spinning. I eventually finished 10th.

4. Re: what happen to Khairul and To
what happen to Khairul and Tom Tan? why DNF?
To most of you, I think I could say it was an enjoyable day and with the introduction of the weights – some had more fighting chance whilst some quickly realise that their driving skills have more room to improve ( which is a POSITIVE thing )

The race also quickly pointed out that Huffidz is very talented, and Muhaymin, very determined. ( the way he rammed his kart forward on the straight would have made many maidens shriek….:P )

For the rest of us, we had good fun and I think the physical touching was minimal and fair except one or two incident which I will mention later.

As you would realise, the track was very grippy ( on the race line only ) hence maybe the K2 boys dominance could be due to this. The K3 boys were no slouch either and pushed hard as well – resulting in some touching. All in all, I think this was a really good experience which we should take a positive indication on where our skills are…..& improve it.

Naturally some of you may claim that your kart is less than ideal, mine included no less BUT this is the best we can do with rental karts and equalising the weight issue was the last step I could bring the event to……the next is having your own race karts, which I also encourage highly.

Mr Ron Teoh, who also is the president for a kart club called AMC ( Advanced Motorsports Club ) was fairly impressed with our driving level ( except Alex’ flying start…he he ) especially since he asked me the night before if we have the correct gear & all…..On Sunday, I mentioned to him briefly the MyKart group and how organised we are with the monthly races, website, forum, mailing list. I added that we have the members, to potentially support his club races. ( where no AAM license needed, as he claimed ) Let’s see if anything transpires further on……

Now, onto the negative part of the event……at least to what I heard & saw.

What happened between Khairul & Tom should only be left to these two to resolve NOW. However, if either one of you wanted it a third party to resolve the issue on the day when the incident happened, the Seniors like Fazz/Azlan could have helped. But no one asked for help, rite? Going home unhappy, helped no one and certainly not the club. Asking for a refund….understandable but was funny especially since the monies were already given to CityKarting Sat evening & we made oursleves clear on damages. To those involved, please resolve this amongst yourself before the next event, ok?

The second incident was to my eyes is more serious. Race 2, on straight facing the pit building. Someone got pushed backwards into the tyre wall which lined the pit entry lane and this occured on the STRAIGHT. The impact was quite severe which resulted in tyre marks on the driver’s HELMET – which no doubt happened when his head went first along the tyre barriers. When people start running towards the driver, I think you can imagine how serious it looked. Thankfully, the only damage was a sore neck and the offending driver, broken sprocket.

My question is : what were you thinking of? I dun need to mention names here but was Fazz’s briefing on driving fairly/safely, especially when AAM & VIP are present not clear enough? Even if you were fighting for the championship or lead ( which you were not ), such actions cannot be allowed.

Your choice of location for this incident could NOT have been worse as well…..which I hope no VIP saw but I doubt that. I think the public standing along the road would have seen it, clear and loud – no thanks to you.

We all drive hard but we also drive amongst friends and fellow enthusiasts. No prize for winning or losing – just experience and hence please keep it GOOD experience for all.

The saving grace is you apologised to the other driver which I think is the least I expected. I raise this incident as I think we should complement each other for good driving and sportsmanship but also warn/reprimand VERBALLY for dangerous driving – which I believe is one of the reasons MyKart exist, to foster a common interest positively.

Enough of my rambling – you know who you all are, so please improve upon it.

Anyway, all in all I would say we had a good day and had plenty of fond memories!

5. About the incidents – I misse
About the incidents – I missed the one one the straight facing the paddock.

But as mentioned the day before, the driver of the kart is responsible for any damages on their kart. If the kart breaks down then it is just bad luck. Things like this happens in motor-sport, so I guess we have to learn to live with it. In professional racing, each team will have to bear their own damages and live with car failures anyway. Just part of the character building aspect of motor-sport.

Tom – just bad luck for you man.

6. congrats to the winners,

Bro – my-KART drivers also were bumper to bumper racing over several laps. Extremely fun. Forgot that you could have so much fun on the 80ccs.

8. was trying my best to catch u
was trying my best to catch up with the leading group…just to join in the fun..but…. 🙁

hehehe…at least i had a good run with udi during the first few laps in the finals…& got pressured when zool was catching up quickly & me loosing precious grip when the tyres gets hotter in the last few laps…lucky me…he tried too hard…hehehe:D

i was right behind the incident on the back straight & was really worried for the unfortunate driver…he just went straight into the tyres at high speed…saw him walking out of his kart as i turn at the next corner & i knew he was alrite…well maybe a bruise or two…but really a more careful judgement & maneuver would almost certainly avoid the incident..IMHO…

overall…really enjoyed the event…even if I finished 7th…good experience on rolling start…nice to have stewards all around the track…and a really really good view from behind of the line of karts fighting just like a real touringcar races…
only thing is they promised to wait for me…& they didn’t…hehehe
(can i have a refund arrr??? **cabut…..)

Hey bro, did you manage to catch your flight?? LOL!

Anyway, I certainly had a lot of fun. The grip on the track was phenomenal! It feels great to be able to brake hard and have the confidence that you will not be sliding too much in the corners. Because of this, I was able to keep in touch with the leading bunch in both races, as I had trouble keeping up with them on the straights.

Bro,
How was it that the grip on the track become phenomenal? Was it because of the rubber layer build up from the just completed races over the day?

11. yes…..but once off-line HAB
yes…..but once off-line HABIS! ( cos much dirt/tyre pieces was scrubbed off to side too…..)

As someone said, like touring car racing…..nose to tail!

U ( & son ) missed a good event!

12. I was the “unfortunate” drive
I was the “unfortunate” driver who was sent to the tyre walls. I was actually right behind the leading pack in front when the incident happened. I just felt a jolt at the back & before I knew it, I was at the tyre walls. I couldn’t even see who was the driver who knocked me until at the end of the race when he came over to apologise.

I had two previous experiences in which I hit tyre walls & sustained bruises in my ribs, which took weeks to recover, so when I “re-live” the experience, the fear was definite there the moment my kart was stopped by the impact. I could see marshalls running towards me, but I felt ok, without noticeable pain and since the kart was running, I just pushed the kart back on track and completed the race. I managed to overtake Azlan though before the last lap, hehe.

My opinion is that a driver has to know where and when to overtake, without endangering himself or herself and fellow drivers, the back straight is definitely not the place unless he or she has superior straight line speed. On the day, all of us were running with almost equal weight, and given the fact that we’re using 80cc kart, the advantage was not there.

I’ve no hard feeling after the incident, but was disappointed. As jules mentioned, I was not fighting for the lead, although I might be able improve on my position by one or two places, but that’s all.

Steward,

Then you missed the 125 class race where the Philippines girl was dicing for the lead. At one point, both drivers touch so violently that at least one was airborne in the air…….it happen rite in front of us ( 2nd last turn ). On the next lap – her OWN mechanics showed her their displeasure by pointing repeatedly at their heads…..meaning ” USE YOUR HEAD!!!!”.

Touching is not encouraged even in real racing, own kart or not. When it comes to racing – “Sayang kart” is not something a driver thinks about…..but if you are known to be rough in driving – you wun last very long as someone will eventually pay you back by sending you into the scenery.

Skills, strategy, perserverence & discipline – that’s what kart racing is about, & hence why it’s good training for the kids. ( especially for character building )

I guess it is also good for old dogs like me…..aggression control exercise! LOL

As for your weight – just get rid of the bullsh*t – then you’ll be fine. *cabut*

11. just to comment on the tyre w
just to comment on the tyre wall incident. Being in last position, I saw the whole thing and it brought back memories of my own painful incident in Sepang, so I was glad to see Jules was OK and even managed to overtake me a few laps later (I was glad he was OK, NOT that he overtook me…:( …)
Although it was an incident that should not have happened in the first place, I’m also glad that apologies were offered at the end of the race.

However, let’s remember what my-kart stands for “safe, competitive racing in a convivial manner” (hope I got it right) and prevent such incidents from happening at all.
We’re all friends here and would like to leave the racing track, in the same condition as when we entered the track…(ie in one piece!)….I tell you, nearly losing your b@#s in the tyre wall is not fun!! …unless you fancy a new career in the opera singing falsetto!

cheers

Bro,
I am thankful it was NOT me either…..it was BMFive-lar but as said, it should not happen to anyone.

As confirmed by Wan Shin just now, one kart from the AKOC had a bad bent rear axle. I think this was Tom’s kart…..& yeah, lucky they no claim damages from us!!

Let’s learn from this series of episode & be more responsible, that’s all I ask.

Cheers.
