I extend this invitation to all my-KART members. I would ask that all of you go through and try to understand the my-KART Vision, goals, brand essense etc as contained in the roadmap.ppt.

background

my-KART’s goal is to build a foundation for motorsports by popularising grassroot motorsports. To achieve this my-KART creates a fun & affordable racing for all. It promotes safety, builds the community and above all emphasises fun. However, my-KART’s activities and objectives go beyond the monthly & endurance racing series.

Such low entry racing and ongoing growth of the foundation cannot be sustainable in the long term without the proper eco structure. To this end, my-KART looks at proactive measures to bring about long term benefits for members and the club.

2006 focus

For 2006, my-KART shall focus on the following:

  • community: building the community & be active in social activities
  • members: continue to drive memberships & inculcate our values amongst our members
  • excellence: focus on excellence in our racing events
  • alliances: forge alliances
  • awareness: create corporate awareness, and wider visibility

  1. Hi Fazz, Please count me
    Hi Fazz,

Please count me in. I have a projector that we can use, no problem. In terms of Venue, I can try ask my friend if we can use his office in Plaza Damas. But let me confirm with him first. Yes, the room is aircon but for 20pax it can be a bit congested. Another thing, there’s no white board, no flipcharts. Refreshment, yes just downstairs. Anyhow, lets see if we can get a much better place. So, we shall keep this as a backup plan.

            FIRST PETRONAS MOTORSPORTS LEVERAGING FORUM

IN the run-up to the PETRONAS Formula One Grand Prix in March, PETRONAS Motorsports yesterday organised its inaugural PETRONAS Leveraging Forum 2006, to instil confidence amongst the company’s communicators and marketers in embracing motorsports as a critical tool to progress, towards contributing to the Corporate Agenda.

The forum brought together more than 60 participants from various PETRONAS units to the Sepang F1 Circuit to experience the excitement, as well as gain insights into the branding, marketing and technology transfer possibilities presented by the Corporation’s involvement in the motorsports arena.

In his opening remarks at the start of the forum, Datuk Anuar Ahmad, Vice President of Oil Business reminded the participants of PETRONAS’ enviable track record of unearthing talents and promoting motorsports events both locally and abroad through its sponsorship initiatives up to the present. He added that in tandem with the Corporation’s globalisation journey in the 90s, PETRONAS made a critical decision to promote its brand through Formula One, bringing the brand to more than 300 million audiences in 30 countries around the world. This association resulted in a greater global awareness of the PETRONAS brand, which in turn serves as a powerful marketing tool in new and potential markets around the world. “So, we have gained a lot from this association. In short, motorsports has proven to be a strategic image building tool for PETRONAS,” he said.

Datuk Anuar’s address was followed by an informative morning session by three external speakers, who elaborated on the various ways sponsorship and involvement in sporting events can be utilised to grow a brand and attract new clientele and partners. The session began with a presentation by Dato’ Dina Rizal, the sports marketing adviser to Nestle Malaysia. Instrumental in building the Milo brand into an important feature of the local sporting landscape, Dato’ Dina related his experience in using grassroots and junior sporting activities as a vehicle to deliver the Milo brand’s promise to its audience, as well as attract coverage by the media. The next speaker, former Paris-Dakar rally driver and currently director of corporate business at TUI Sports AG, Mr Volker Capito, elaborated on how PETRONAS can leverage on major motorsports events such as the Formula One Grand Prix to entertain clients and partners, as well as open new business and networking opportunities through well planned corporate hospitality initiatives.

The final speaker for the morning session, En Khalid Ismail spoke on the use of communications and promotional tools to drive a brand, based on his past experience of working for one of the sponsors of the Ferrari F1 team, Marlboro.

During the lunch break at noon, forum participants were given an opportunity to experience the exhilarating rush of being driven around the Sepang F1 Circuit at breakneck speeds, by winning drivers from the PETRONAS Syntium Proton touring car race team.

In the afternoon, En Rosman Roslan, Senior Manager of PETRONAS Motorsports, gave the forum participants an insight into the PETRONAS Motorsports Masterplan, which included the way forward for domestic and international sponsorship, as well as the rationale behind the new Formula One partnership with BMW. This was followed by a dialogue session between participants and a panel consisting of Datuk Anuar, En Mohd Azhar Osman Khairuddin, Senior General Manager, Legal & Corporate Affairs Division; En Ibrahim Marsidi, Managing Director and CEO, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, as well as En Rosman.

The forum ended with a tour of the BMW Malaysia training facility located in Cyberjaya, where participants were given a first-hand look at BMW’s business involvement in the luxury car retail sector in Malaysia, as well as the company’s various achievements in the motorsports arena.

            Bro,

Though I could not make it to the conference but just want to share some information on the current affairs that’s been circulating and other efforts by corporate giants. The following snippet may not have any relevancy but just want to give an insiders point of view about the whole motorsport effort thingy.
