ParticipantThats exactly what I did! Asked the missus to wake me up at 1.45 am and saw only 6 cars at the starting grid. Bah! apologies to the Mini..stress, and sulk *&%%$# to bed la!
Why did they have to wait at the last minute to withdrew at the expense of millions of viewers and tens of thousands of Americans at the stand who understandably threw bottles on the track! Righto! time to review that 1 tyre set rule…. sulk!

Memberwoke up at 2am and watched till the end. sad… only 6 cars started and 6 finished. nothing interesting except for the bottles being thrown onto the circuit. congrats to ferrari for their first 1-2 of the season.

Participantdifferent time zone so i was up from 3-6am.
i wasnt watching the race, more of listening to the commentators and track reporters from itv-f1 feed.
wanted to be updated on michelins stand and also see how FIA will react. Honestly, it was more interesting than most races last year. unfortunate, but thats what thats happened.putting a chicane for your benefit is ridiculous. imagine going for exam, u didnt study hard enough and u tell your lecturer to make the exam simpler so u can past, while the rest studied hard and prepared enough for it. In the end, those fans at indy are the 1 that are the most disappointed. i will still allocate 2 hours of my sunday for f1, whatever happens 🙂

Participantshould’ve used instead bridgestone all condition tires. See how durable it’d be running over the beer cans.. 😛

ParticipantF1 is about Technology and Drivers. Michelin’s tyre technology limitation was used as the main reason by 7 teams to abort the race. FIA should have insisted on reducing speed by installing the chicane and ran the race. If it had, there wouldn’t be any beer can throwing competitions, legal suits, putting 7 teams on trial, pointing fingers at each other, etc. Probably, Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi would be the only ones unhappy (FIA and Bernie have to manage that by persuading them to become good sports for F1 sake)……The end result is a much more less messy situation……..in my view lah!

ParticipantIMHO, Michelin is GUILTY.
Coming to a race on a known track ( no doubt resurfaced, I heard ), on a known date but without the correct, safe tyres is inexcusable.
The teams cannot race, for the safety of their drivers, cars and even spectators are implicated in whole mess. If I am a team owner & I am summoned by FIA – Michelin will have to answer all my questions.
That’s my 2 cents!

MemberCertainly Michelin have only themselves to blame for the reputational damage. Bridgestone tended to be a little more conservative since their Firestone problems a few years back.
But I thought more could have been done to salvage the bad situation – and avoided the farce we saw on Sunday. Certainly as James Allen said, we are all missing the bigger picture.
