These supplementary regulations are intended to support the main regulations and are specific to the particular event.

1. Registration Closing Date:

12 hours before start of event registrations.

2. Maximum Number of Teams:

12 teams

3. Entry Fees:

RM700 per team of 4 drivers. This fee will cover the kart rental, Sepang track fee, St John’s Ambulance and my-KART admin.

4. Starting Procedure:

4.1 Grid order: All drivers from each team will be weighed upon registration on the day. The aggregate weight of the drivers will determine the starting order for the endurance race. The heaviest team will start first, and the lightest last. Any team below the minimum weight will not be allowed to start.

4.2 Starting order: Teams will be sent out onto the circuit in the grid order. The teams will make a slow formation lap towards the grid without any overtaking. The teams will be required to stop on the grid at the designated positions by the track marshalls, and will be green flagged once the next team is within 3 kart lengths behind.

4.3 Kart failures on the formation lap: Any kart failure on the formation lap will not cause the start to be aborted, unless there are special circumstances deemed by the race director appropriate for a re-start (eg, multiple kart failures).

4.4 Aborted Start: This will be allowed under special circumstances. If the start is aborted, the re-start follows the same normal starting procedure.

5. Driving Time:

The race length is 90 minutes. The teams are required to change drivers (mandatory) during each of the 3 pitstop windows. The pitstop windows will be 10 minutes long each, and will be spaced equally apart during the full race duration.

6. Refuelling:

6.1 When to refuel: Each team may need to refuel during the course of the race. The team will need to determine when is the most appropriate time for the refuelling to take place. Refuelling can be carried out at any time deemed appropriate by the team during the race.

6.2 Where & How to refuel: The teams will be advised during the pre-race drivers briefing on the location of the refuelling bay. The engines will need to be switched off and the driver must alight from the kart for the refuelling. Refuelling can only be done by the Kart & Circuit Operator’s crew.

7. Minimum Weight for drivers

The teams shall comprise 4 drivers each. The aggregate weights of all the 4 drivers must be no less than 280kgs. If practical, ballasts may be added to the underweight teams. The team’s minimum weight requirement will be reduced by 10kgs for every female driver in the team. For example, if a team has 3 male and 1 female driver, the minimum weight shall be 280kg – 10kgs = 270kgs. Hence, a team comprising 4 female drivers shall have a minimum weight requirement of 240kgs.

Round 02, K2 race report – Hafidz Fahro Rozi dominates

Saturday, 4 February 2006
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CCW)

Hafidz Fahro Rozi (“Huffiz”) proved once again why he is arguably one of the best K2 drivers in the KART series by claiming a perfect win – KART’s equivalent of a hattrick. Huffiz topped all sessions. Huffiz defeated father and son pairing of Naza in second and his son Tarmizi in third. Fazlur Rahman (“Fazz”), Abd Razak Halim and Yusnee Yusof round up the top six finishers in the K2 category.

The K2-45 category (5 drivers) top three finishers were Huffiz, Fazz and Razak. The K2-70 category (10 drivers) top six finishers were Naza, Tarmizi, Yusnee, Shahrul Azlan Ariffin, A Muhaymin and Luen.

K2 report

Qualifying honours in the K2-45 category was shared equally between Huffiz (40pts) and Fazz (36pts). However, Huffiz managed to qualifying absolute top in both sessions, whilst Fazz finished second to K2-70’s Naza in one of his qualifying.

Overall qualifying positions went to Huffiz (K2-45, 40pts), Fazz (K2-45, 36pts), Yusnee, Naza and Azlan (all K2-70 & 30pts) followed by Razak in sixth (K2-45, 28pts).

In the feature race, Huffiz used his first choice kart selection and technical skills to leap from 8th on the grid up into 3rd by the end of the first lap, bring Fazz along with him in 4th. Huffiz continued his progress by getting pass Naza for 2nd and then Tarmizi for 1st by the end of the second lap. Huffiz never relinquished the lead from there.

The excitement was in the battle between Naza and Fazz for 3rd place with Tarmizi only slightly ahead in 2nd. This battle raged until lap six when Fazz decided to settle for fourth due to his failing brakes. Fazz had been closing in on Naza and for three consecutive laps from lap three to lap five Fazz made banzai attempts to pass Naza. Each time Naza left the door wide open and Fazz did not to brake in time. After the third attempt at passing Naza, Fazz decided to settle for fourth. This allowed Naza to now concentrate on catching his son Tarmizi. This he did on the very last lap as he slipped by Tarmizi to claim 2nd overall. Razak finished behind this group in a quiet fifth place.

The other battle in the main feature race was between Azlan and Yusnee. Azlan had taken a “red eye” flight from the US and arrived just in time to start the round 2 event. For the first part of the final, Azlan led Yusnee. However, Yusnee managed to pass Azlan on lap five to finish the race in fifth place. Azlan was happy with the precious points scored despite the jet lag.

In the consolation final race, the day belonged to Luen who set the example for Huffiz’s achievement in the feature race. Luen started 7th and moved quickly into the lead on lap two which he would retain until the chequered flag. However behind Luen, the battle was frantic between Fahmy Rahman who started 1st, followed be Faez Sullivan, Patrick Tan and Ahmad Hilmy Halim. The finish positions were Hilmy followed by Faez, Patrick and Fahmy. All drivers had fairly eventful races as they battled with each other throughout.

Round 02, K3 race report – Nazri Ng claims second win in two races

Saturday, 4 February 2006
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CCW)

Nazri Ng demonstrated why he would a force to be reckoned with in 2006 by clinching his second win of the year in spectacular style. Nazri held off second placed Khairul Hizam Isaac and Jason Goodmund in third to claim full marks after the first two rounds. Zainuddin Zainal, Afzan (May) and Amri round up the top six finishers. All six drivers were in the K3-45 category.

Eight drivers participated in the K3-70 category. The top three finishers were Danny Chooz, Douglas Chai and Chris Chuang.

K3-45 report

Qualifying honours were shared by four drivers, with Nazri, Farid Kadri, Zainuddin and Amri each claiming top spots in their respective qualifying groups. The overall top six in qualifying went to Nazri (36pts), Zainuddin (34pts), Farid (34pts), 2004 K3 champion Kevin Tan (27pts), Md Misbahudin (26pts) and Amri (25pts).

In the feature race, Nazri made full use of his first choice kart selection to leap spectacularly from 16th and last on the grid up to 4th position by the end of the first lap. Thereafter he gradually reeled in Jason, Afzan and Amri. By the end of lap 2, Nazri had moved up to 3rd as Amri slipped down to 7th. Nazri chased Afzan over two laps and took 2nd from Afzan on lap 4. Lap 5 saw Nazri pass Jason for the lead that he would hold until the chequered flag.

Meanwhile behind Nazri, Khairul was also impressive progress through the field as went from 10th on the grid to 6th on lap 2 and then gradually despatching the front runners to move up to 2nd on lap 7 and claim 2nd overall. The main feature race was dramatic for Iskandar Mildseven and Farid Kadri as they ended up with DNF’s due to separate incidents on lap 5 and 6, respectively.

In the consolation final race, Kamarul Nazri’s win was overshadowed by the heartbreaking failure of Siew Weng’s kart on the very last lap after leading strongly for 7 laps.

K3-70 report

Qualifying honours in the K3-70 category went to Abdul Razak, Douglas Chai and Chris Chuang and Danny Chooz, all claiming top position in their respective qualifying groups. The top three K3-70 qualifying positions went to Douglas, Danny and Abdul Razak.

Douglas and Danny would participate in the main feature race, whilst the rest of the K3-70 drivers would be racing in the consolation final race. The main feature saw a reversal of fortunes for Douglas and Danny. By virtue of his higher qualifying position, Douglas had preferential choice of karts over Danny, but started 3rd on the grid compared to Danny’s 1st position. Their relative positions stayed like this until the chequered flag, although Douglas had to work a little harder after slipping down the field resulting to have to pass three other K3-45 drivers to close in on Danny.

In the consolition final race, Chris Chuang was virtually unchallenged as he made strong progress from 4th in the category to 1st at the end of the 1st lap. He also passed a few other K3-45 drivers to end up overall K3 2nd at the chequered flag.

Round 01, K2 race report – Muhaymin overcomes weather to start with a win

Sunday, 8 January 2006
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CW)

Muhaymin overcame an early kart problem to clinch the first win of 2006. Muhaymin beat Zoolhilmi Muhamad and Fazz Rahman in a rain affected event. Faez Sullivan, Yusnee Yusof and Steward Loke make up the remaining top 6 finishers.

The first qualifying race which began under wet track conditions was won by Steward Loke in group A and Muhaymin in group B. Steward was particularly impressive in the group A Q1 as he increased his lead lap after lap without any dramas in the still wet track. Other drivers were caught out in the wet at various points in the race. Muhaymin took the other Q1 win in group B after missing out the group A Q1 race due to his kart not being ready in time.

The second qualifying winners were Luen (group A) and Tom Tan (group B). On a drying track, Luen took full advantage of his front row start to race towards his first qualifying win in K2. Luen had to fend off an on form Muhaymin who would finish second. Tom, another K3 promotee and the 2005 K3 champion was impressive during qualifyings. Tom had survived a big crash under braking in Q1 and recovered to finish seventh. In Q2, he made sure that he would go straight for the win which he did.

Muhaymin’s win and second gave him the top qualifying honours. Second overall in qualifying was Luen followed by an impressive Steward Loke in third. All the top four qualifiers in K2 were in the 70kg minimum weight category. The best 45kg minimum weight category (“K2/45”) driver was Zoolhilmi in fifth overall followed by Tom (2nd K2/45; 6th K2 overall) and Fazz (3rd K2/45; 7th K2 overall). The introduction of the new weight categories was starting to look unnecessary.

Muhaymin made full use of his top qualifying position to select the best kart available (#16) except for kart #46 which was banned due to being too competitive relative to the rest. Muhaymin still made quick progress from tenth on the starting grid to move into the lead. Unfortunately for Luen and Henzee, their races had ended much earlier due to a multi-kart incident at turn 4 at the end of the long main straight. These DNFs promoted the drivers in the group B (“coca-cola”) final by two places in the end.

Round 01, K3 race report – Nazri Ng dominates on debut

Sunday, 8 January 2006
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CW)

Rookie Nazri Ng had a perfect debut by winning both qualifying races and the K3 final in dominant style. Nazri beat Siew Weng who flew in from Melbourne the night before and Ramzul Zai in third. Azim Wahab, Danny Chooz and Chris Chuang make up the remaining top six finishers.

Qualifying honours went to Nazri with two wins followed by Danny and Ramzul with a win each. The K3 field mainly comprised many new faces with four lady drivers Marsella, Farhana, Norhafizah and Kam Hui Li. The biggest drama in K3 qualifying was when Zainuddin Zainal had a steering rod/nut failure at turn 1 and crashed into the tyre barriers. Luckily he was not injured and the kart was not significantly damaged. The wet track during the earlier sessions did catch out a few drivers as some slid wide in various corners and onto the dirt and grass.

Aside from Nazri and Danny, the first round Q1 qualifying runners up were Ramzul (group A) and Azim whilst (group B) third places went to Desmond Khoo (group A) and Ramsey Sabelt (group B). In Q2, the top 3s in addition to Ramzul and Nazri were Desmond (2nd) and Danny (3rd) in group A, and Azim (2nd) and Ramsey (3rd) in group B.

Nazri’s full qualifying points gave allowed him first choice of karts for the final, and he chose kart #5. Nazri used this advantage to overcome the handicapped tenth place grid start. He quickly gained ground on the competition to win the first race of 2006. The final races progressed with minimal drama, and the sole one was when Ramsey Sabelt spun off into retirement and a DNF. Ramsey’s DNF promoted the drivers in final B by one position.

2006 KART series – K3 category (80cc)

The K3 category in the annual KART series is run on the 2-stroke 80cc rental karts. This category is recommended for new karters, and for those who have more experience but need to hone their skills further.

All my-KART members and guests are eligible for the K3 category, although must attend the pre-race safety briefings.

This section reports the progress of the 2006 K3 series. The top drivers from 2005 have mostly been promoted to the K2 category, so who will be the new K3 winners? Will 2004 Champion Kevin Tan return to go for a second title?

The new 2006 season comes with additional weight categories racing together in each races. There will be recognition of the winners of each of the weight categories as well as the overall winners.

2006 KART series – K2 category (100cc)

The K2 category in the annual KART series is run on the 100cc karts. This category is reserved for experienced karters, and for those who have had race experience in either the 100cc or 125cc categories.

Eligibility depends on proven track record in myKART’s K3 series, or validated experience in other racing categories.

This section reports the progress of the 2006 K2 series. Will reigning Champion Fazz retain the title for the fourth consecutive year, will the 2005 challengers and the new promotees from 2005 K3 give him a run for his money?

KART series rules and formats – 2006, 2007

1.0 OBJECTIVES

The my-KART events aim to popularise grassroots motorsports, particularly karting by making participation in regular karting events accessible and affordable for its members. my-KART realises that there are a significant number of casual and semi-serious karting enthusiasts who would like to have the opportunity to participate in affordable racing events. In doing so, my-KART emphasises safety and fun above all. my-KART also aims at developing the amateur karting community, and thus the group and events will be conducted in a friendly atmosphere.

Given that my-KART events are conducted using primarily rental karts, it is likely that kart performances will vary significantly. The event format that is described below intends to minimise the “luck of the draw” as best possible. my-KART events are also aimed at balancing the skill levels and the kart performance as far as possible.

The purpose of this document is to set out the event formats and rules which meet the above objectives.

2.0 OVERVIEW OF RACE

Typically, the race is split into two segments for each driver and category:
(i) 2 qualifying heats – points collected to determine order for choosing karts in final. The qualifying heats are conducted as individual races, and points are scored based on the drivers finishing positions in the qualifying races. By doing so, we do not need to depend on timing systems which can often be unreliable, and this will allow more excitement for participants.

(ii) 1 final – points will score towards the league table. Each driver will participate in one final each, but their groupings will be dependent on how well they scored in the combined qualifying races.

3.0 RACE LENGTH

Each heat and final will run for about 10 minutes each. This equates to approx 8 laps.

4.0 DRIVER CATEGORIES AND EVENT GROUPINGS

There will be 3 driver categories:

  1. Formula K2 – advanced karters (2-stroke 100cc rental karts)
  2. Formula K3 – rookie karters (2-stroke 80cc rental karts / 4-stroke funkarts)

The objective is to have a suitable number of drivers in each grouping to allow for a minimum 7-9 driver turn out. The K2 group will initially comprise of 25 drivers. The selection is based on 2 out of 3 of the following:

+++only subscribed members of the my-KART mailing list who…

  1. is ranked in top 20 from the prior K3 season
  2. attended more than 2 races
  3. has adequate racing experience in 100cc and 125cc karts and is made known to my-KART admin or any other nominee

The selection for K2 requires careful consideration given the significantly higher speeds of the 100cc karts. Above all, my-KART emphasises safety and fun racing, hence it is vital that drivers in the K2 group are sufficiently capable of handling 100cc karts in racing conditions.

For the event groupings, the total number of drivers are sorted in seed order. The drivers will be divided into groups of similar numbers. The number of drivers per group depends on the number of reasonably good karts. Consecutive seeded drivers will be split into different groups. Eg, seed 1 in group A, seed 2 in group B and so on.

5.0 QUALIFYING RACE FORMAT FOR EACH CATEGORY

(i) For the 1st qualifying races, karts are assigned to each grid position. For example, kart number 1 may be assigned to grid number 1 and so on. Drivers will be assigned the grid positions based on their seeding order; ie highest seeded drivers start first. In the event of unseeded drivers, the order will be in favour of first registered driver.

(ii) For the 2nd qualifying races, drivers will start in the reverse grid order of the first qualifying. The karts assigned to each grid will remain in the same positions. For example, the driver that started on pole in the first qualifying heat will swap grid position and kart with the driver who started last in the previous heat, and so on.

(iii) change of karts: karts will only be changed if the organisers decide that it is either too slow / damaged / dangerous / too fast in comparison with the rest, or if certain drivers cannot fit into certain karts, or if a driver has driven the same kart in the previous qualifying race (applicable only during the qualifying segment).

Points will be score for each qualifying heat based on finishing positions, and accumulated to determine who gets the first choice of karts for the final.

6.0 FINAL FORMAT FOR EACH CATEGORY

Each driver will drive in only one final, although there may be more than one final. The points scored in the qualifying heats will determine which final the driver falls into. If there are odd number of drivers, then the final for top drivers will be more then the lower finals.

The top scoring drivers in qualifying will have first choice to the karts for the final. This will allow the driver who performed best in the qualifying heats the chance to choose the best available karts, and thus eliminate the “luck” factor in their final race. In a tie breaker, the driver with the best finishing position in the qualifying heats will choose first. If there is still a tie, the higher seeded driver will choose first.

The starting order for the finals will be in reverse qualifying order (ie, the highest scoring driver in qualifying will start last in the finals – but have the benefit of the better kart). This will further allow drivers who may have had bad karts in the qualifying heats to have another chance to improve on their position for the KART championship.

A driver who DNFs (must return to pits on own power) will not score points even if they are in the top final runners. The next drivers in the lower final groups will benefit from the extra position gained from the DNF driver’s demise.

There are 15 points scoring positions for the league table. Only the top 15 drivers in the finals share score points.

In the championship table, only the best 8 out of 10 scores will count towards the final drivers’ championship. Drivers who score in 9 or 10 events will thus have to drop the lowests scores from the overall total.

7.0 DRIVER WEIGHTS AND THE WEIGHT CATEGORY

Drivers within a category finals would be further sub-ranked within their weight categories. There will be two weight categories – which is 70kg minimum and 45kg minimum. Weights are based on drivers own declaration and includes racing gear – from time to time, the my-KART organisers may test the driver weights, and should the drivers weigh less than the minimum limit, then they shall lose all the points scored up to that point, and shall be placed in the more appropriate weight category.

ARBITRATION

The my-KART event organisers has the final say.
