Participant
just like k2, the k3 drivers should be informed about their starting position. this will save time n trouble arranging the karts on the starting grid.
one way is to inform each driver who they line up behind, so at the formation lap, all they need to do is just to find that driver/kart he/she has to line up behind.
This was done previously last season, and rather efficiently too if I may add.
I guess some of us ex-K3 guys whom were marshalling then have now moved up to K2 (Tom,Alex,Luen,Razmyn,Patrick just to name a few),so there is a need to quickly get those volunteering to do marshalling work up to speed.
Don’t worry fellas,I remember when some of us first started volunteering as marshalls it was also a bit kelamkabut… but now its more like… organized chaos… hahaha! 😀
Cheers!18 January 2006 at 2:55 am #2404siewweng
Participantone way would be to inform the pole sitter to go at jogging pace at the formation lap, so that rest could catch up and find their respective slots before that start.

ParticipantJust thinking,,,, Is it possible to introduce “Early arrivals get best positions for the heats” I mean starting grids. ( At least for the first heat) then subsequently we may have heat 2 as in normal positions placings.
-How to determine,? During registration and ‘bayar’ time.
If everyone gets there early, then we may start as normal. I know, I know…. I’m one of em. But rumah very the jauh la. But no more excuses.!!!!
This will also give opportunity for fellows who may not get pole positions in the heats to get one.
How, boleh??18 January 2006 at 3:10 am #2406siewweng
Participantinteresting idea, but thats not gonna convince me to wake up a little earlier for pole position :p
i feel the current seeding system is very fair.probably the early bird element can be added to the kart selection process? currently karts are allocated to us randomly. i would love to have the liberty to choose my kart if i m early 🙂

Participantwell…why cant we have an extra lap session for each categories..so we can check the performance of the kart..i mean…example….this kart x doesnt break well…so the driver can go back into the pit and repair it before the real race starts….hows that??….so we can settle it before the race..?

MemberThanks for the feedback so far (keep them coming in) – these are very useful.

this early bird idea is interesting. i have to think about this. however, the seeding system that we have now is designed to give some sort of order to the events. an early bird system would be a bit more confusing.
As for Siew Weng’s suggestion of early birds chosing their karts – this will delay the process – you know how some people have difficulty making up their minds. *wink*
Tarmizi’s suggestion on a warm up / practice session is also not feasible as it will add more time to our already long events.

Participanta question about yellow flags. i was helping out with the marshalling at round1, i noticed 2 drivers were overtaking right in front of me, while i was waving the yellow flags!!
is the yellow flag a permenant feature? or due to lack of manpower, it can only be used at the corners near the pit/garage….

is the yellow flag a permenant feature? or due to lack of manpower, it can only be practical at the corners near the pitlane….
due to lack of manpower and *ahem* flags, the yellow flag is only station near the pitlane. it is only thru our own initiative (and I notice your efforts waving it at various corners), that it gets waved. In sanctioned races, yellow means slow down and no overtaking… unfortunately, we cannot do this in my-kart events due to limited manpower and inability to observe the relevent parts of the track to pick out the offense.

Participantsiew weng…the yellow flags..when in a real sanctioned event is indeed serving as a safety warning to other drivers to inform them of any mishaps in front of them..but here in my-kart..like fazz said…due to manpower/resource restrain is merely a tool to try to warn drivers of an incident somewhere on the track..not neccesarily at the location of the incident…well i cant be helping much especially if there’s only 2 yellow flags & the next race is my race…cant I?? but still…i believe we can learn from this…the drivers themselves must first realise of this defiencies & be sporting enuf to not overtake…
about the K3 formation…everytime I was out there assisting the race…i’ll always get the drivers to know their grid posn..really almost shouting at most of the times…before the engines are started…so this kinda bumped me when this issue came out…usually..well almost all the times the karts are started not according to the grid posn due to what jules had said…but the drivers themselves shud know where there are in the grid as I have already told them what their posn is beforehand…so where is the broken link here??? edd & the rest who’s always volunteered would know what i mean here..
nevertheless..given time i’m sure the starting procedure would mature..but we do need more help in organising the races…especially now that many of the last year’s regulars are now in K219 January 2006 at 5:25 am #2419Jules
ParticipantI think no one will bother to even see your flags…..and we are kidding ourselves expecting the drivers to obey…
if indeed attention is needed from the drivers to SLOW DOWN – always stand beside the track and WAIVE YOUR HANDS!!!! Lotsa of people doing this will surely get their attention.
In all my years of fun karting worldwide – only one track in germany requires drivers to slow down when the yellow LIGHTS around the track are flashing. It is an indoor track so you cannot miss all the beacons flashing & rotating!

ParticipantTHINGS TO IMPROVE
– please get 4 full sized cones for the startline ( I am tired running about on the scooter looking for those from citykarting )
– get a full size umbrella and base, so that our poor lap charters can sit under the shade. This will surely make more people volunteer for the job.19 January 2006 at 7:41 am #2421razmyn
Participantbut whatever happened to steward’s big straw hat?? 😉

thats demoralising. u wont see me bothering to wave 1 anymore.
the funkarting place i regularly go in melbourne is really state of the art. there is a tv screen that shows each karts lap time, position and karters name. the track is heavily fitted with warning lights. u must slow down during yellow light as the marshalls will really tell u off if u dont. he will just ask u to stop at the pitlane, lecture u.
its outdoor btw.20 January 2006 at 12:20 am #2424Mad Marcy
Participant
The way we’ve been operating is that who gets started up first gets out first, which leads to a lot of confusion regarding the K3 starting grid. Therefore, I propose we have a system where we make sure that the polesitter gets started up and out first, followed by everybody else in order and to keep it there till the start. And any tardiness gets penalised. comments?
This could be done provided that the karts had been arranged as per the position before take off to the track. Else, the person whose suppose to go earlier might be behind another kart and he/she will not have any room to maneuvre to get out of the pit.

ParticipantI’ve noticed that City Karting takes a long time to help drivers that have mishap. Probably it is wise to ask them to be stationed at some of the identified corners. In Round 1 since it was slipery, a lot of people had to push the karts off the grass themselves. There’s a lot of time waste here. Every seconds counts.
