ParticipantAs mentioned above, we hope and pray it never happens again. We would be interested to understand the outcome of the investigation and make sure we understand what lead to the accident.
As for our my-KART events, safety is always top of mind:
– comprehensive safety briefing held before every event
– we promote and try to instil “responsible and respectful” racing among my-Karters
– we work to influence the track organisers to ensure reliable and safe karts
– the events are managed and run by experienced my-karters
– recognising that accidents do happen, St John’s ambulance on standby on each eventWhile the news report is still quite sketchy, it did seem that this accident happened in a “walk-in customer” situation, with many of the above conditions not present.
Our condolences go out to her family.

ParticipantMy condolences as well…….. 🙁 Yeah, i think they shouldve (atleast) have an experience driving a gokart before letting them using it..(esp a 125cc!) well, like when we were at the tag heuer’s race, the guy who rammed the tent (he doesnt have any experience at all)..action speaks by itself..but i think the lady had the experience as she was into motorsports..or the kart was just too fast for her..

Membermy condolences goes to the person’s family.
this very tragic incident is something that we hoped that we will never see in the country, but at all times fully aware that the dangers are real. i am very sad that this has happened to a fellow karting enthusiast.
we must strengthen our resolve to improve safety of the sport in order for it to grow. as always, safety first. let’s understand how to improve further.

ParticipantI first heard about it Saturday evening and have been bracing for this news the whole of yesterday. It is truly very very sad ;( … I cannot begin to imagine how the hubby must feel…
This is the last thing that Speedway needs right now, in view of the recent bad press that they got over the late night drifting events that led to the MPSJ summons and the loss of their homologation status. This concern for safety was the reason why the Rotax Max 2007 Season Opening Round was moved to Sepang at the last minute after our requirements and recommendations for safety to the Speedway management fell on deaf ears.
If this don’t jolt them to get their acts together, I don’t know what will.. ;(

Participantto think about it … me and aflah were on the same track, on the same downhill bend, and on a rotax max engine just a few hours before the incident … and we might easily had the same fate as the deceased that day … but syukur alhamdulillah nothing happened and we are still given a chance to continue our lives …[br]
i think other factors that lead to this tragic accident is the track condition itself … they have a bumpy downhill corner … road patches all over the track … and insufficient run off area … this is very critical as even the pros too make mistakes at corners sometimes …[br]
i did express my concern over the dangerous corner … and so does kart quest management … but the incident happened before they could do anything about it … this should be a good lesson to all karting operators …[br]
my condolences to the family of the deceased9 April 2007 at 7:28 am #4603sabelt
ParticipantMy condolonces to the family.
Yeah the high speed bend is really dangerous. Its time for the management to revised some part of the circuit.
This would be another blow to promote karting to public as the news are being spread over from newspaper.

ParticipantThis is indeed tragic news. A few questions come to mind like could anything have been done to avoid it? I have never felt comfortable about that part of the track, and joked a few times with friends about my fear of “flying onto the toll gate outside”.
There is a story about this tragedy being reported in Singapore with “facts” about 200kph, Petronas station, etc flying about. I am trying to get a copy of the news article.

I doubt there won’t be repercussions. If a 4-stroke fun kart can fly off the track and land onto the highway outside, imagine a 125cc kart?

Perhaps there should be more publicity and reading materials about track homologation? The homologation papers should be prominently displayed at the tracks, and more notice board posters on safety.
I remember getting into a kart for the first time, I wasn’t told anything at all, nor was there anything to read about precautions/safety/driving.

ParticipantMy condolence to the deceased family.
I had a goose bumps when I read about it in the paper this morning. I really hope they will improve the safety condition at the track. We must always take into consideration that think might go wrong at anytime without notice. So safety is very important.

ParticipantThis is really a terrible event. So sad to hear that someone has lost their love one over a karting incident. track management has been bad at Speedway with lotsa sharp objects lying in the run off area. and is one of my favourite track.
There is once i was practising on the 100cc with a buddy. was following him behind and there was a big stone at the racing line. My buddy’s kart picked up the stone and flung it at me following right behind. it hit my helmet visor so hard until i have to slow down because of a spilt second SHOCK.
Imagine the stone hit my neck ?? i would be dead .I really feel sad for the gentlemen who lost his wive over this incident.
damnn…..

ParticipantCondolence to the family of the deceased..
(my condolence to the karting enthusiasts as well) as this will create a big impact to our passion..as we have been talking abt SAFETY in most of our forums.. all I can say is that never take safety lightly/for granted..it may cause our lives.. so risk assesment should be taken effect..and also safety briefing should be taken place at any times even to the experienced karters …better be safe than sorry…

Memberfolks – i hope you spare any judgement on the kart operators or the circuit owners, or anybody else. i spoke to kartquest to express my regrets as this impacts us as much as them.
this is a most difficult time for the karting community in the country. i hope we do not see any knee-jerk reactions here. i for one will be planning to see kartquest and some of the authorities (malaysian motorsports commission – yusnee, can you help arrange a meeting with en nordin) other operators and possibly aam. i would like to ensure that when we emphasise safety that it would not be at the expense of killing the sport.
let’s allow the police to do their investigation and learn from the outcomes of what happened.
