Memberunfortunately, the RM30 price was only for the simulation we saw today.
the 34 80cc karts we raced today was a simulation that both my-kart and citykarting agreed to do to see whether it would be a feasible option. so the price was a once off bonus.
nevertheless, we’d like to hear feedback from members on running such a high number of karters in future events.
our only concern was whether newbies would be able to handle:
1/ the formation lap without pre-arranged dummy grids
2/ the first corner rushlet us know your feedbacks.

ParticipantYeah It was fun racing with a lot karters in the grid. One of the reasons why because all karters managed to fight for places, you can still have fun even if you are in a bad kart etc maybe not a win but who cares 🙂 . In my opinion, the race should be held occasionally this year and throughout the year we can select the drivers from K3 who is good enough and well aware of the safety procedures. Let’s say 20-25 K1 or K2 current drivers and the rest would be the K3 drivers. As for more efficiency and time saving. How about make a ballot like just now minus the qualifying session? Its easier and more unpredictable at the grid(like F1 qualifying session in the wet). As for the 1st corner rush, I can’t say much…every man for themselves 😕

ParticipantIt was fantastic. I didn’t get to do it though (was hoping someone drop out). However, it’s even exciting to watch. There’s always a kart passing by! And I gotta say to my surprise, the first turn was extremely clean! Honestly, wasn’t what I expected cause I couldn’t imagine 34 karts rushing into the corner! Good job guys!

ParticipantGlad that everyone had fun, and the photos of the race looked great (photos on Facebook).
However, the main reason for doing this was to evaluate the feasibility of having this format for all future K3 races, which will include a sizeable number of newbies.
In my view;
– Newbies will be overwhelmed by the sheer number of karts in formation – if they stall, are not sure what to do..then the formation lap and running start will be delayed
– The first corner rush is a huge risk – of course we did well on Sat but this was with a field of experienced kartersIn my view – stick to 15 karts per K3 round….safety first over profits or efficiency…

ParticipantFor the K3 drivers, the 34-kart race would actually be a rather good experience for them to see how they do relative to more experienced karters – everyone is using the same machinery (well, this the closest we could probably get to achieve level playing field, that is.) And I have to agree with Hanif, 34 karts also mean that unless you are rocket quick or hopelessly slow, you will always have someone to play with, no matter how crappy the kart is – which to me is a big plus.
IMO we could easily get the number – 25 or so from K1 and K2 drivers, and 10 or so from K3 drivers (which will be carefully selected by Committee, of course) – Mind you the 34 is not a holly grail number, we could always do 25-kart race, 30-kart race etc. There’s no need to make a firm commitment regarding the number 34 to CK e.g we could propose 25 + 5 (25 karts confirmed plus 5 on standby) or 30 + 4 etc.
Regarding the first corner rush – I think we need to have more confidence in the club members/drivers and the commitees who are to going to have a final say which K3 drivers get to join this race. On top of that that I don’t think the first corner of a 34 80cc-kart race is more ‘dangerous’ than that of a 10 125cc-kart race – The magnitude of possible damage is the same.
It’s very interesting and satisfying to see how we managed to form the grid within 2 laps – I am pretty confident given enough of instruction and practice there’s no reason why we couldn’t do that again. The thing we should sort out too is the schedule – we probably should look into the option to start the event 30 minutes earlier or so etc.
If the idea of 34-kart race came out to see if this thing was feasible, I think the answer as it showed in the opening round (to me at least) was obviously a YES! Or 70% or 80% yes to some people and that is a reason good enough for us to further look into that.
Let it be a RM30 or a RM35 fee to join a proper 34-kart race, bro, kat mana boleh lu dapat lagi? I am all for the idea.

ALTERNATIVELY
We could also probably do this progressively for the 34-kart race:“JUST AN EXAMPLE”
=================
Rd 1: 30 K1/2 drivers + 5 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 2: 25 K1/2 drivers + 10 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 3: 20 K1/2 drivers + 15 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 4: 15 K1/2 drivers + 20 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 5: 10 K1/2 drivers + 25 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 6: 5 K1/2 drivers + 30 K3 drivers as feature race
Rd 7: 35 K3 drivers only and no more feature raceSo eventually, what started as a feature/bonus race for the weekend will eventually become a proper K3-only race.
ok, how the number in K3 drivers grow? When this feature/bonus race is developing throughout the rounds, K3 drivers get to take turns to take part in it or new drivers get to be added everyround after evaluation.
how bout that. These are just some rough brainstorming ideas out of me for now…Any thoughts?

ParticipantSK – thanks for the feedback.
I think there are 2 different considerations here:
1) To run normal K3 race with one group only – ie up to 34 karts, instead of breaking up into K3-A, and K3-B.
Pro’s – This means we essentiall run 2 groups, K1/K2 combine, and K3, and in effect this means a total of 6 races (2 heats + finals, for each group). Compare that to previous, where we had 6 groups x 3 = 18 races to complete -> we cut down on 12 outings!Con’s- Remember, that K3 is our entry level race, and will include drivers who have never participated in a race before. Hence, repeating my view above, I think that putting them in a big field of 30+ karts is a safety risk…OK for experienced my-Karters, but a risk for newbies.
2) To run the “34-kart K3 race” as a separate feature race:
As mentioned by Fazz in a separate post (or was it on Facebook?), since we had so much fun, this may spin off a separate series, perhaps run once every quarter/2 months? – purely for fun!
And I think SK Wong’s posting was referring to this idea…how to run the event to ensure fairness, safety, who should participate, etc?..everyone? K1/K2 & experience K3 only? etc?…The immediate question to answer is (1) – do we run the regular K3 in a single group, or broken into smaller groups as before? – my vote is to split to small groups as before..and we need to decide this before the next race on 17th Jan…

For safety reasons I didn’t want Zaf to join the 34 kart race, I’m sure a lot of other people would feel the same especially the parents of the younger participants we need to attract at entry level. Running K3 as a single group would also be very unfair, as we all know, all karts have suffered different levels of use and abuse and are far from equal.
Now and again would be good idea if everybody enjoyed it. I did.

30+ karts
ballast
20 lapsmore thoughts are welcomed to “cook & serve” this new series… 😉

ParticipantJust some ideas to bounce around:
Have the 30+X karts…
Top 10 from K1, K2 & K3 (30) and X number of wild card from K3(non-newbies)…. randomly drawn from a list of interested experienced K3 karters.
Have it as a seperate series.
