Whatever I have said was never intended to make anger to anyone. About RM 30000, I was not dreaming that I have it. The number was used so that it is easier to see which part has the highest importance, which is karting skill, karts, license or suit.
What I mean is that how much percentage for each factor.About going to Shah Alam, my Dad has stopped me from going back to Shah Alam. The reasons are it is not safe for me to be there. And, who is going to pay for the damages if I damage any of the kart since I am from average family? I can’t afford to pay for the damages. If I ever mention anything about karting, he will be very angry of me. Yes. Yes. I am not quite able to convince my Dad yet.
In short, I was not dreaming, Jules. The posts I made here is to gain knowledge and will never be a subsitute for actual practice in a real go-kart. No doubt, the best way is go down track and race.
I really hope to clear any misunderstanding on my posts. Sorry for whatever I said. Thanks.
Alvin,
I am not angry at all but just dun want u disappointed even more while sitting on ur back! This group is the best thing u can find and the ppl here will genuinely help you get somewhere in karting.
But even then u cannot join…..citing all reasons. I think many of us here including me – understand that karting is not cheap and we all worry about damages as well. Shah Alam not safe? Taiping too I think if I hung around the lake at midnite….Your father dun let you? My wife never let me race too last time…..and I USED to hide all my trophies…..come on, please stop all this chat and drive!!!!!!
U see how ur thread leading to…..ppl talking abt JAIS and puasa. Please be serious to be taken seriously ok!
Btw, no one showed up at Shah Alam on Saturday….but I had a gala time testing with full data logging system in place. My mechanics were all making fun of me as my lap times varied by 0.5seconds……..target was 0.3 or less!!!! ( yes with fun karts all around too )
Anyhow – i went down 0.5 seconds by end of day and yes, it was hard work to even reach this….

Guys, I humbly request that Jais and the puasa month subject be withdrawn from further discussions. Sorry, my fault and I am on my way to face the Board of Inquiry at Aliens HQ.

ParticipantI would like to say sorry for those offended in any way by my words. Yes, I do ask a lot of questions and some of you may ask these questions lead to nowhere. But, I want you all to know that I ask questions to gain knowledge. To me, knowing something is better than knowing nothing. I feel some of you are annoyed when seeing my post.
Well, each time the government officers from Jabatan Belia Dan Sukan receive my call, they would feel the same since I keep asking a lot of question. Well, if I don’t ask, I will know nothing. Anyway, I feel difficult to carry on with my karting career. So, I really need your help to help me to answer my question. Please.1. How can I convince my Dad that I am not wasting money and risking my life when I am karting? How can I convince my Dad that I can actually improve my karting skills even though I may not be very good in racing? Well, nearly each time I mention go-kart, my Dad will be very angry and always wants me to forget it for good. The same can be said for the rest of my family. They want me to focus on education. They are just a typical Asian family. Well, I do study hard like any student, but I just want to live my passion that is karting. I don’t want to be just like anybody else. I want to be myself. So, how can I prove to them that I can be an excellent go-kart racer? Perhaps with good results in races or consistent fast lap times?
2. How can I guarantee my safety during my journey to Shah Alam and back to Taiping? Yes, I know, there is no such thing as guarantee. But if I get robbed and I lost all my money, how can I get back to Taiping? I have no relatives at Klang Valley. And, it is not right to ask some money from you so that I get back home. There will be some chances that I could get robbed and cheated. Another thing is that what if I can’t go home? Maybe because of no taxi at the trackside. So, you see, I really have to plan every inch of journey including a back-up plan if the unexpected happens. Safety is definitely very important.
3. How do I know how had can I push? If I push too hard, I will certainly crash into the barrier, damaging the kart. What if I hear that: ” kamu dah rosakkan go-kart ini. Sana sini rosak. Kamu perlu bayar 2 ribu ringgit” How can I pay that hugh sum? At most, I may have 2 hundred ringgit and that is just sufficient for me to go back to Taiping. If I am able to pay for the damages, I will certainly have no more money to go back.
Sorry for the strong words here. I am not complaining here. It is important to tackle these issues, otherwise I can’t progress further in karting. Please offer me some advice. Your help is kindly appreciated.

Participantalvin,
after such a long silence – good to see you r alive but alas unchanged in your thinking…
yes, you can ask question – all you want but somethings require you to get off your bump and do something while asking the questions. When you kart and also still ask questions – ppl will take you more seriously and tell you more and you will also understand it better. asking from behind a pc on a sport gets you only so far.
1) on ur dad, yes – take his advice and study cos karting is not for you. Do it once you get a profession, earn your own money, you will enjoy it more.
2) on ur worry you get rob while travelling to KL…..I can only think many of us travel abroad alone to pursue a education, living and surviving on our own. yeah, lucky i came home safe….just like many of us too. hopefully you too.
3) you only know how hard u can push when u drive a kart and if you spin, you try again cos karting is relatively safe. If you worry about damage – see my advice on no. 1 cos then u have your own money.
all the best.
Jules is right on this.
Motorsport is NOT a cheap sport. I know the burning desire to kart is in you but when you don’t have any money (as you still relying on your dad, I believe) to indulge in a game that you desire so much, it is in a very difficult situation. (Espeacially if you don’t have a petrolhead family support).
Get a part-time job during your breaks, earn some money and come over to enjoy yourself then you dad couldn’t complain so much because you are enjoying yourself on your own money. He might even respect you more as he could see that determination in you to succeed what you want to do. “When there’s a will, there’s a way”
There no age barrier to indulge in motorsport unless you are planning to go into it professionally where you have to start at it at a very young age.
Mind you my friend, I love motorsport racing so much since at a very young age and I only got into real life racing at the age of 40 (due to lack of opporturnity & finance). (Mat Rempit time many moons ago don’t count)

ParticipantOn travelling to Shah Alam being unsafe, your dad is spot on. Those buayas at the kart track will eat you alive!
On a serious note, Jules have been far off places bordering Mongolia and he is still sane (as sane as he can be at his age :p) so I don’t see why travelling to a place like Shah Alam can be dangerous. Just put your money in the bank and travel with RM50 in your pocket and hide ur ATM card.

Why karting is not for me? Is it because of my age disadvantage or lack of courage? Why? Well, I never neglect my study. But, I want to start my karting career as soon as possible, of course without neglecting my studies or making my family go bankrupt.Sabelt
If you refer to Fazz’s post at my-kart Yahoo! Groups, this website was shutted down. Even my post disappeared!Back to the topic:
Well, I tired my best to persuade my Dad to let me go to this Saturday my-kart Grand Final Race with using my own money, but he gave a firm NO. He said that karting is a high risk sport. Although karting is relative safe, who knows that injury may occurs? I may lose my limb and can be paralysed for life. By then, who would take care of me? Who would pity me and help me? No one! He then said that why must I choose this sport, instead of other “safer” sport like badminton or football?
He added that if I were going alone to Shah Alam, I was going to be exposed to all sorts of danger. I may be slashed to death by robbers. Another thing is about kart damages. If I cannot pay the kart damages, the kart operators may beat me up to tears and torture me for not able to pay the kart damage. All this torture will keep happening until I asked my parents to come all the ways down to pay the kart damages. (I am not referring to any particular kart operators. But in this materialistic world where no money no talk, if you can’t pay, you will suffer the pain.) With my innocent and naïve look, I was easy to be exploited by others.
My dad reminded that for these years, he had reluctantly brought me to go-kart tracks at Ipoh, Batu Kawan (closed) and Penang Island (closed) for arrive and drive and also several go-kart courses. In one of the go-kart course, I was coached by Raja Razman. Even though several hundred ringgits were spent in training fee, renting fee, I was not producing good results. So, he said I am not suitable for karting. One good example is this year my-Kart Round 7 K3 class. The K3 veteran and racing experts lapped me as if I was not exists. Even, I was not even able to overtake newcomers who have not experienced go-kart driving before! What do all those track time, go-kart courses and coaching by Raja Razman mean to me? My dad said they are meaningless and I will never be good in this sport. He laments that for the trip from Taiping to the race, over RM 200 had to be spent and it was a waste of money.
He also said I will not able to beat the experienced racers. They race so fast. No matter what, I am not as brave as them as claimed by my Dad. He said I can only drive go-kart for fun, but not for racing. But I really want to race, in national and international racing, representing Malaysia. I want to move up the karting status and progress further to single seater. You may think that I did all this for fame and money. But not, I did it to satisfy my racing passions.
He keeps saying that if I can still drive karts, but in the future, I will regret my action of karting. He even asked the Chinese God to predict my future. The god predicts the karting will eventually make me suffer, or worst kill me.
I feel deeply hurt by my dad remarks. It may seem that I was “defeated” by my family, but actually I was defeated by myself. All these years of training, I am not still able to produce good results. Now that my family has virtually blocked my access to karting, I can kiss my karting career for good. You may think I am now useless. But I cannot against my parents. I do know that not all advice from my parents is correct. And, so is my view. Somehow, I must strike balance between my karting career, my study and my family. Somehow. I will never stop karting. But I will bear in mind every dangers that may occurred to me while karting. In the end, my parents were trying to protect me from harsh reality outside, but in the same time, they have destroyed the only dream and passion I have, which is karting.

ParticipantDear alvin,
First of all, thank you for your reply regarding the website issue.
Lets get back to reality.
DONT GIVE UP. If you give up you’ll feel demoralized and if you really have this interest to it, STICK TO IT. You shouldnt give up before sitting in a kart! Real race drivers would never believe such things. Its all about winnings and stay ahead!
Of course, money is a main issue here. Why dont you look for a part time job then? Im quite understand if your dad trying to stop you from racing as he might think that this hobby is very very expensive, i mean very expensive (but not in my-kart though) for him to sponsor you money.
Also, you have to understand that most malaysians inc. myself have to cutdown all unnecessary expenses because of the business economy slowdown (of course that might include your dad). I always believe that your family doesnt want you to regret later in the future. Study smart and work for yourself first..Once you started working, make your own money i believe they wouldnt have an excuse to stop you. Just be patient ok.
To get sponsorship and to jump in a single seater racing would be never easy including most experience drivers out there. Why? Malaysia is not a place to be professional in racing unless you can fork out your own money to build a racing team.
Most easiest way and method to improve your racing skill without spendiing so much money? Come on, dont you know that technologies these days make things easier? Most of the race drivers days practise thru PC and PS2 racing games i tell you! Theres lotsa great racing SIM games out there. I would recommend you to get GTR2 or RACE WTCC. That include myself to find a new way to improve and practise my driving skills. Its only RM10 each! Would be good too if you purchase MOMO logitech with force feedback steering wheel. Go to game option and practice them without driving AIDs. Please dont think that its just a game ok, they may help you then…
youtube.com make things much easier too. Just type RACING/KART in the search box. If you have the time, study and watch them closely on how they handle it.
Guys, lets give this person a break. Always think positive and be patient.

ParticipantHey Alvin,
As mentioned to you before, there are plenty of ways to make some extra cash while you are still a student. One of the easiest is to get into some small time investments, and speculation like the stock market and futures. E.g. if you have take the advise seriously 2 mths ago and speculated on FKLI, you’d have made about 1 yrs of your expenses to my-kart’s events.
If you can’t change others, the situation or your environment, then its prolly time to think about changing how you think, what you have been doing and start to make some changes. Doing the same thing over and over and hoping for different results is … a total waste of time.
Just my 2 cents.

Participantsabelt,
I hand the baton to you…… for your knowledge, Mr Alvin has been a “persistent” but mostly “behind the desk karter” since 2-3 years back.
I think we, me included has given him many encouraging words but the replies are telling me this “man” cannot hack it in this sport, least survive on his own 2 feet, AT PRESENT.
If you look at my last reply closely – you are repeating my advice of getting a proper qualification, a job and then do karting as a hobby. Then no issue with damage compensation since he is earning his own dough but still plenty to worry about killing himself, getting conned in life, giving up karting for family reasons, work reasons etc etc etc – sure he’s not reach that stage in life yet and troubles only get bigger when you are older too – at least for some.
Yes, you suggested part time work, which is a good idea but will he do that when he finds Shah Alam a warzone full of crime, drug pushers, convicts, slashers and FLASHERS too?
In life, you can choose to look at things positive or negative and I do think Alvin’s claimed “passion” is not enough to overcome all the negatives he has painted to himself to positives.
Getting chinese god to predict your life? Boy, u be paying more for your god than karting man! Imagine paying big bucks just to be safe in racing…..pay me, please! I open all roads for you! Seriously, what is stopping ur dear old dad from telling his god to give you this message of you suffering while karting…..this god knows karting or not?
I personally even offered to coach this young man since my fellow racer and sifu Raja Razman failed….so is this giving him a decent break?
There’s a chinese saying – we can bring the cow to the water but cannot force him to drink. With MyKart, you are at the water…..can you just droop your head to drink it now?
When you are older and more mature – you will laugh and understand how true, how patient we have been with you.
Until then, ADIEU. Also Best of Luck, you really need it in life – BELIEVE ME!
