    Hi Fazz,
After rd1 incident where my kart was hit by Thevan & spin 90 degree to the left with Brian fly over my steering crossing my both hands, lucky miss my head!….I really found it was really a dangerous accident. But no one admit they were wrong or maybe I was too slow so that they have to hit to pass me!
I would like to bring this matter up is not becoz of feeling upset or complaint anyone….just to have safer & more discipline between all mykart members on the future the race.
This is just my suggestion to all mykarts comitees…

So we have volunteers to help out the race positioning, maybe we need one or two more experince volunteerskarter to be at upstair of the pit to watch out the race,so that they watch out any incident or dangerous driving during the race so that they know what really happen ,then the marshal report the incident to mykart comitees whther to give them any penalty either on points or have to ban on the next rd.
Hope I dont miss the next rd…hehe

Steward – I am disappointed that no one wanted to admit the error. I however believe that the onus is on the guy who is trying to overtake. Once a driver has spun, there is very little another driver behind can do to avoid.

It is difficult for me to judge as I did not see the incident, but I’ve always said that you need to give the other competitor sufficient room, especially if you are trying to pass him, but not fully alongside.

I agree that we need some observers. So I shall work on this as the next agenda item in our regular event. My thoughts are to have two drivers from K2 observe the event as it proceeds. The K2 drivers will rotate duties when they are not racing (or not about to race).

We shall have the K2 drivers observe both the K2 and K3 races.

In any case… I am not surprised Brian F (hope he is okay now, as he was complaining of some pain) could not avoid you. When somebody spins, there is very little time for the person behind to avoid the spinning kart. I’ve been in the situation before and broke my collarbone.

Well, when we appoint observers……I think things can get a bit sticky/tedious/time consuming…..but if everyone agrees – we can try it.

My suggestion is nothing too new to you all…if you think you drove like an idiot or had a kart which made you drive like an idiot ( yes, one of those days..) – then just go & see the guy you had a “clash” with….and apologise/explain ur moves….

If YOU CANNOT DO THAT…..see one of the K2 drivers and get him/her to bring you two together – of course you explain your complaint nicely to the driver involved & K2 “judge” in attendance…after the a quick agreement of the situation – the K2 “judge” should leave you 2 to sort it out GENTLEMANLY…..

simple rite? I personally prefer this way actually since we are already finding it hard to man the start flags/the grid/the lap taking duties! It was not fun to see some of you standing under the sun for that day…..thanks guys, you know who u r!

Karting is a sports – so please treat it as such and when you think you played a bit hard……please acknowledge by a simple “sorry” – by an IMMEDIATE on-track gesture and later a personal apology….and if need be – a teh tarik.

Okie? but again I am open to the observers thingy also – if need be.

    Cheerio!

Jules – as always gives a true voice of reason.

Personally, like Jules, I’ve always preferred the approach of settling disputes in a gentlemanly way. I would not want to step in as judge and jury, nor do I want to place such responsibility on somebody else’s shoulder.

However, on occassion we may find members who are involved in such incidents not having the grace to admit their faults. So when incidents happen, it would be very difficult for those involved to want to settle the matter amicably… so I believe there is a need to explore ways to manage this.

Racing is often plagued with people with big egos, and amateur rental karting does not seem to be any different. Thankfully such big egos in myKART are manageable *wink*.

Having observers should be just that… they should only observe and objectively report what they saw in their own eyes. I do not wish them to pass judgement… (having said that, this is easier said than done). There’s always two sides of the coin in any racing incident, so at the end of the day it is back down to the individuals involved to admit the error of their ways. So a trial of this observer role is perhaps prudent.

This is one topic I shall raise in the next driver briefing. Anyway, I still believe that myKARTers are in general good sports. So I would prefer to leave it to all of you guys to conduct yourselves in such spirit.

    Cheers!

    Hi!

I wanted very badly to be there for Round 1, 2005 but was sick that Saturday so had to give it a miss. I am shocked to hear about the crash.

I am just starting out in karting and I must admit this is scary. Brian is out with cracked ribs. Hehe .. maybe I should invest in some safety equipment. Anyways, I think that it will be some time before I can actually get out there and race with the likes of you guys …

    Hi dimples!

I am first to say that I am very unhappy with the incident that injured Brian’s ribs. I spoke to Brian F about this a few days after the incident (when he returned from Singapore). I was concerned that he left without even competing in the last race.

This is precisely why I emphasise safety so much in myKART events. I get angry when people think that karting is child’s play and adopt a cavalier attitude when on the track.

It is all about respecting the kart, your opponent and the track… ALWAYS. You can still be aggressive and race fair and give the other drivers sufficient space.

Anyway – I do not want you or any others to be turned off from karting. When done right (it is all in the mind and attitude), karting can be exhilirating fun. The key is changing people’s mindsets: in karts, there are no bumpers, no ABS, no airbags, no seat belts.
