My style is to lift off (about 80%) the throttle and brake hard (about 1-2 sec depending on speed and corner) just in time before turning… (usually twitch the back end a bit with tiny steering input) >> then lift off the brakes, and steer the kart into the corner aiming for the apex. After the initial steer, I tend to start feathering the throttle towards the apex, always trying to straighten the kart through and after the apex so I can get on the throttle earlier.

ParticipantDon’t ask Jules, he will just ask you not to brake for the 80cc karts! He is evil….hahaha

ParticipantYeah.. depending on individual style. For 80cc karts at shah alam, I don’t brake as normal straight line braking to slow down. I tap the brake hard to make the kart go sideways while entering corner, so the kart slows down a bit up to apex. by doing so, the kart should be pointing towards exit point where you accelerate immediately. The tapping thing will create a lift effect of one of the tires. Thus create a good G-pull to sling shot you with extra exit speed. You can tapow 100cc beginners in corners if you do this correctly. Just my 2cents.

No… no where near Schumi… I lift 80% throttle….. so only 20% throttle while braking. :p

ParticipantYes!!! 80cc no need brake ones…..the steering IS the brakes…
On 100cc, different story ok. 125cc another slight different one again esp on Rotax.
Seriously, braking is different for differnt corners. For beginners, I can only say brake max on straight line, turn in while letting brakes go IN PROPOTION with ur steering angle, clip apex and throttle out whilst unwinding ur steering……again in PROPORTION. Very simple. Key point – never have a point where you are not on the brakes or throttle – COASTING loses time…
At the end, practise is what u need. Practise till it becomes 2nd nature & no thinking needed when u do it.
Have fun….YEHHHHAAAAA!
Master Jedi Jules? HA HA HA HA!!!

Hey guys i’m new here. Anyway today at the zerotohundred go-kart endurance race at shah alam I found that this is a very good way of getting the kart round the track very quickly, if done correctly. This is because by doing so you don’t kill the revs on the slow accelerating 80cc karts.

Memberhey cyclonite!
welcome to the group. just as long as you don’t drift too much then I guess you’d be ok. I’ve made a habit of doing the tail end pitch, but when the kart handling sucks, I am all over the place and no where near the pace.

The less time spent braking, the faster you’ll be.

Participantas my weight 95kg,normally try not to brake, just depress the acclerate before the corner but something find it too fast, also as we using rental karts, really many different between the karts brake!

I understand what you mean bro. Just try to also avoid from skidding too much when you exit the corner. The only snag of this technique is that you may have to lift off the throttle earlier than a person who brakes late… but I guess you may compensate by skidding INTO the corner, thus scrubbing off speed.

Participant95kg weight I suggest u tap on the brakes. The Inertial Momentum of moving forward will keep u forward, you’ll lose speed but not as much as those lighter than u with the same technique. Also, you’ll tend to slide more in the corner as the centripetal force comes in. Extra 200-300 Newton at least. 😛
