ParticipantWell done Desmond! At least now you will give a higher respect for those who does this….even for fun!
As I was there for the finals, Des started in 6th and the 1st lap was a mess with tangles at the 1st bend and also at the bottom of the hill – which took a few drivers out.
Then a few laps later, the leader ( Terence ) also packed up with a loose earth ignition wire…his mechanic should be shot!
In racing, luck matters and someone was smiling for Desmond which was an excellent result on its own!
Hope your arms are not so sore ( Deli tyres are less grippier than Mojo D2 ) but you are right, racing does really train you mentally.
Car racing esp MME is now for you…yawn! ( he he )

[/quote]Hey – I’m one of his mechanics (well, at least responsible for them). It was just plain bad luck – typical for Terence – we’ve never seen this problem before on the Leopard or Rotax – it’s a permanent connection so not screwed or anything and just worked it’s way off. For anyone alse, it would have happened in practice, heat or pre-final but for Terence, it had to wait until the final when he was in a dominant position 🙁

ParticipantWith Desmond’s success, I wonder if there’s a way of getting more people to try out the higher competition. I was thinking about two things that might encourage people from my-kart to join the KKS races:
1) Have a special sub-category of the seniors race from chassis/engines that are at least 3 years old (thereby reducing the cost)
2) Working a special deal for arrive/drive packages for a couple of people. I’m offering an arrive/drive for cadets/juniors for rm2000 including everything – including tyres and for older equipment could get close to that for a senior. Ppl with their own 125 that can do the maintenance themselves could do it a lot cheaper than that.Any views?

ParticipantThank You Guys for the wishes !,
I must say it was a great racing in KKS , When i started this , i only have 2 things in mind, push as hard and as consistent as i can and bring the kart back in one piece. 😛 .
I must say it was quite competitive , especially the qualifying. everyone’s lap time was almost identical with just about 3-5 tenth of sec difference from the top 5 qualifiers. where i qualified 4th on grid.
and the rolling start is way much more stricter. a slight fall outside the white line before the green flag will be penalized. The race in Heat 1 and 2 was like synchronized swimming 😛 everyone doing the same thing taking the same line and etc. a slight deviation off the racing line will see you dropping in position(s) that’s how close it was. I got my fair share of giving up my position to David Turner in heat 1 when i was trying to take wider turn in radius to close in the gap into Natasha Seatter.
The Final Race was awesome started 6th on grid. you can see everyone giving out all their best. race was so close ! and there was some small incidents taking few karters out and also sending David Turner into a spin. And i managed to slip into 4th behind Ratnaraj and overtook him just 2 corners later and secured 3rd with Hasif and Terence flying off away with this leopard engine. Terence was blistering quick. It was awfully bad luck for Terence to retire from a dominant lead 2 laps later.
And it was only Hasif Up front , and i was pulling away to a comfortable gap away from 3rd trying to chase Hasif for the remaining 20 laps or so but he was quick.
It was an awesome race and i have learned alot from this experience. And racing with the buayas of K1 for the 2008 season did really helped alot in KKS in terms of race crafts, THANKS MY-KART !!! and i think anyone in the K1 drivers series are more than ready to race in KKS !
Also, thanks John King and his dedicated Technical Team for setting up the kart just right for me and a reliable engine !!!
Note : my muscle ache like hell racing in ELITE !!!! no joke !! it was so physically demanding !!!! 🙁

John,
sorry I was just saying it out of jest…..without any harm intended but to highlight that even the best drivers and team, need a bit of lady luck in racing!!
Btw, when he coasted to a stop, I was nearby and wanted to shout for him to check the electrics…..but heard him cranking the engine and nothing happened. I once lost a MyKart race like this…..yes, the Lepoard ignition earth wire fell out when I was leading…just like Terence’s – & Ah Boon my mechanic had an short earful from me but then again, it was all my rotten luck too!
The spade connection should be cable tied down somewhat! I am amazed at Terence pace n more so, the little effort he needed to drive your PDB. Must be the good set-up!
On promoting the KKS races to our Mykarters – I reckon it’s do-able but an OPEN 125 class would be too daunting & pricey for some ( with little chance of success with the open format )
This is the exact reason I asked PD to run a senior max class ( unmodded ) with the 125 Open at the same time but separate championship…well, no need to ask if he even heard me….
KKS needs membership plus AAM race license – all which cost additional $$ too and for an amateur who wants to do 1 or 2 races for fun, it all adds up.
The Yamaha is gathering interest and MAM is helping…..but its edge is only just as the tyres ain’t cheap and engines, not that common yet.
You are in excellent position to help promote the sports to the masses and people will listen to you.
Will do what I can, to help as always!

Participantonce again i would like to congratulate my never-was-virgin racing partner desmond .
JK will have no problem finding talented drivers from my-kart especially from k1 and k2 pool to offer them nice weekend racing package. If the price is right, things can look great for both my kart and JK. cheers
