    Great videos!

My first overtaking attempt was just a tad late, the 2nd one worked better. 🙂

The 3rd Round of the AMC in Surabaya saw Hasif finishing 5th in the Final. Ikhwan had an accident in the Pre-Final in lap 2, after starting from the 5th grid and finished 13th.

Surabaya Kenjeran Park Circuit is slightly above 1 Km with a 220m long front straight. New set of tires do not give much advantage as far as this circuit is concern.

Ikhwan started the Final in 15th grid and finished 13th. In the qualifying he was 8th fastest with a time of 37.4. Calvin Wong started in 1st grid with a time of 37.1 In heat 1 Ikhwan managed to work his way up to finished 5th while Hasif finished 10th after he went off the track. In heat 2 it was a close race for the top 5 racers and Ikhwan finished 5th while Hasif finished 7th or 8th.

In the pre-final an Indonesian driver Dustin Sufian close the line when Ikhwan was trying to overtake him which causes Ikhwan to spun. After he spun another karter hit his kart that caused the kart chassis to bent slight and also affect the steering column. He managed to overtake 2 drivers to finished 13th.

In the final Ikhwan only managed to take on only 2 drivers with his lame kart while Hasif made his way up to 3rd. It was only in the last lap when Hasif was overtaken by 2 drivers i.e Rio Haryanto and another Indonesian driver who were following him for few laps.

It was almost impossible to take a full shot of the race as the pit area was located at the center of the track. There was also no proposer spectator stand that could be used to take videos. So there were no videos taken for the Surabaya race.

Mikko also had a problematic weekend. In the final race he had his clutch to failed him. Maybe he could tell the story better.

The next AMC round which is the Final round will be held in Sepang on the 8th and 9th September.

The next RMC Round 3 will be held in the next 3 weeks on the 21-22/7/2007.

Hope to see some of my-karters to race in the 3rd round of the Malaysian RMC. See you guys there…

Very tough outing for Ikhwan from the sound of it but a lot better of from the experience gained I am sure. Hopefully, better fortune is waiting for him and his fellow drivers in the forthcoming home venue at Sepang and you can bet on the most vociferous support from my-karters.

The final races of the Cadet, Junior, Senior and Master/vateran were wet races.

In the Junior final, Ikhwan finished podium. He finished 3rd but was promoted to 2nd when Senna an Indonesian driver was DQ for some irregularities on his carburettor floats.

In the Junior Final, Ikhwan suffered the same fate as in Surabaya when he was hit from the back by another driver. He was holding 2nd position before the incident. The race was stopped at about the 13th lap as rain was pouring down. Everybody was on slick at the start of the race. Since the race has not reached 75% of the full distance, the race was restarted to complete the 20 laps race and Ikhwan was 7th at the start. Ikhwan managed to overtake some drivers and finished 4th in the pre-final. Hasif finished 5th

The final was a wet race. After the green light, OOi fei Hong was overtook by Senna after the 3rd turn. While Ikhwan kept his 4th place behind Bryan Mehta. After couple of laps, the gap between Bryan and Ikhwan gets bigger. However toward 1/3 of the race distance Ikhwan caught up and at about lap 10 he overtook Bryan and finished the race in 3rd position 1.1 sec ahead of Bryan.

Ooi Fei Hong overtook Senna couple of laps earlier.

    The podium finisher were:-

    1. Ooi Fei Hong (Tony Kart)
    2. Mohd Afiq Ikhwan (Swiss Hutless)
    3. Bryan Mehta (Birel)
    4. Mohd Hasif Azmi (Swiss Hutless0
    5. Ryan Ritchie (Tony Kart)

In the senior, Mikko Nassi commanded the Heats and also the pre-final. Except for Heat 1, the wrest of the Senior race was wet. In the Final, Mikko was pole but lost the pole position to Ryan Mumford after the green light at turn 1. Ede another My-Kart karter was following in 3rd. The gap between Mikko and Ryan gets bigger by the laps. Only towards the 2/3 race distance Mikko caught up and with 2 more laps to go Mikko was trying hard to over take Ryan. Mikko however failed and finished 2nd 1/10th behind Ryan Mumford while Ede followed 7/10th behind in 3rd.

    The Senior Podium Finishers were:-

    1. Ryan Mumford (Kosmic, I think)
    2. Mikko Nassi (Swiss Hutless)
    3. Massadenal Ali (Kosmic)
    4. Fariz Fauzy (CRG)
    5. Luis Amirol (Swiss Hutless)

Full result can be viewed at

As it was raining I did not taped the Final, which I regretted. I have part of the Junior Pre-Final. As mentioned all the senior races were ran in wet except for Heat 1. So no Senior race was recorded also.

This was probably my worst outing by far… the mechanic (ah boon) and i took a gamble by changing the set up of my kart which didnt help much in qualifying because of understeer and only managed 16th out of 13 places.. in heat 1 i suffered a crash in the first corner and fell all the way to 23rd place but managed to finish back in 16th place.. i suffered worse in heat 2 and DNF after another 1st corner disaster by the same guy(Rayoman Banajee).. after starting the prefinal in 20th place… i managed to climb to 14th place but no further.. the final proved to be one i would love to forget as i had suffered a crash which according to some is the worse they have ever seen.. after trying to avoid hakim (who was wrongly in the middle of the track after spinning off) i crashed right into the metal barrier and totally totalled my kart and maybe even engine.. but thankfully no major injury was suffered.. City Karting proved to be superior after dominating the podium with 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th place being city karting drivers.. CONGRATS TO EDE!!! with a supreme win in his rookie year…

    Das,
Sounds like its really a tough weekened you wanna forget quickly but before you do, try to recall and think what would you had done better if given a chance to repeat those situations….I mean, if you can do some analysis. Also, glad to know that you did not picked up any major injury. However, I am quite sure that you will be a much stronger racer in 2008, compliments from the experiences gained in 2007. Hey! this is only your rookie year dude!……good job!

Congrats to Ede for being crowned the Malaysian RMC champion. A rookie taking the top rostrum…wuhoo!

Have fun at the World Finals and also the ROK World Cup….so I heard!

For the rest including Dass, a pat on your effort this year is needed. Learn to recognise and work out where you can improve and that will make you a better racer for the next year season.

Most important is you have FUN while doing this….safely too!

Congrats to the champions in all categories, the Juniors went incredibly close!

My weekend was not too great. Qualified 2nd, 0.03 behind 1st and 0.001 ahead of 3rd (top 5 qualified within 1 tenth!!). In heat 1 I got slower and slower as the kart bogged down out of the corners the further the race went and eventually ended up in 7th I think.

Heat 2 on Sunday got pushed back at the start a bit and ended up in 11th with no pace to get up any further really.

Set-up changes for the pre-final meant that the kart was fast for longer and I was able to get into 6th and then get repeatedly rammed by an eager kid who didn’t have his father at the track (he drives clean when his dad is watching)… and then got taken out by the aggressive championship leader on the last lap – he lost any hope of taking the championship there.

Final I did what I could from 22nd on the grid up to 8th by the end of the race, recording the 3rd fastest laptime, and having a lot of fun overtaking!

The reason for the performance being good during the first few laps and then fading off was because I was on a fairly old chassis (3+ years old), so it bogs down the engine out of the corners when grip levels are high…. new chassis next year. 😉

    Mikko,
The 3+ old kart you were on got slower and slower as the race progresses? Could it be that the kart is less flexible causing it to “dig” in the cornors? The way out is possibly to use softer axle?
