MemberThanks patrick (nohad) and sam (7:40) for the comprehensive report. I envy the fun you guys had. Sounds like a great day.
Love the team names, except for USJ (could be more creative huh?). HuruHara and Melvin’s Slow n Curious are quite cool.
Thanks to Sam for organising the thing. Glad that it turned out a fair success.
But the earlier incident in Women’s qualifying was far more serious. Kong Mun Yee of Sanofi-Aventis was hit from behind and thrown of her kart. She landed hard on the track. She was promptly put into the ambulance and immediately rushed to SJMC. This forced the withdrawal of Team Sanofi-Aventis from the Women’s final and Team Endurance involving ten drivers. All the while after the incident, her team mates kept me posted. I very much wanted to visit her but had to oversee the event. My partner visited her and confirmed that she had fractured her collarbone, lacerations on her face, injuries to her hip but what was worst was the injury to her L4 which would keep her hospitalised for a month.
Ms Kong’s incident disturbed me though. As karting organisers we cannot afford this sort of things happening. I wish her a swift recovery.
On our part, what else could we have done better? I once had an incident in my former company’s sports club (well two, if you include my own incident *wink*) which involved a female staff. She was out of action for i think 2 weeks, and wasn’t too pleased after that. Since then, we had to make sure that we were comfortable with the capabilities of the respective drivers. And we insisted on the pre-race safety briefing. Sam – happy to discuss further on this subject to collectively improve / reduce risks of incidents in future events.

Lesson learnt from this event, need more flag marshals who know how to use blue flag (to warn slower drivers that faster drivers are lapping them) when holding such an event or in our future events with slow & inexperience drivers racing among experience drivers as I find it very dangerous as the inexperience drivers normally don’t watch their back when coming to a corner and they could suddenly cut into your line when you least expect.
Bro, I was taught a very valuable lesson and something I woud remember for quite a while. I use to secretly laugh at the Kimi – Liuzzi type accidents where the rear kart climbs and piggy ride the front kart. Man, it happened to me and I was really worried about injuring him bad. I drew alongside him, looked and looked at him. Boy, was I relieved when he signaled thumbs up….apologies to whoever it was. I was not able to identify him even after the race. I beleived that he sudddenly reduced speed to let me pass and it was just too late for me to back off.
Sorry mate, that kart No.13 just left me standing…like a jack rabbit…..bah!
Thanks to you, junior and Anis, I enjoyed the afternoon real good. Will team USJ feature again in the future…..who knows!

Participant
First of all a very big thank you to Naza, Nohad, Azmee, ST, Siangwei, Melvin and Tarmizi for your participations and supports of the event.
Congrats to you Sam and your colleagues, for the smooth running of the entire day and job well done. However as motorsports enthusiasts, we plan for zero injury and mykart is no exception. I sincerely hope some sort of post race analysis be done to learn from the experience of last Sunday in interest of safety for the benefit of future races.
Thanks once again.

ParticipantThank you all once again. Just received sms from bro. Nohad on photos and video. Will get them from MLF tomorrow. TheFazz, I am more than happy to discuss safety issues for our benefits. I was involved in a couple of accidents myself in the past including one which pitted my car against a trailer and a tanker and left me bedridden for three months. But when I saw Ms. Kong lying on the tarmac in a state of shock I just could not bring myself to accept it. Here she was supposed to have fun while generously contributing to a good cause and yet she would not be coming home for the next one month. Frankly, it would not be that hard had it happened in the Expert category. I actually choked when I reported the incident to the C.o.C. It simply shouldn’t have happened. I instructed the C.o.C to step up safety measures immediately. During the Team Endurance, one lady had her hair hanging loose, we immediately called her in (black flag), but she only came in after 3 laps. Apparently, she did not understand what black flag meant. I have actually just had a post-mortem with the C.o.C and the Chief Marshall. These are our conclusions and propose remedies. Hopefully they are useful for our coming activities. The new measures will be implemented next year.
1. to have two ambulances on standby for emergencies
2. most of the drivers do not understand the flags. Mostly are from corporations which sent their staff or clients to take part. The remedy is to have different categories. Expert for pros, Advance for season karters like my-KART members and Novice for first-timers or those sent by their companies. If time is the essence than we may combine Expert and Advance categories.
3. to include important details i.e. flags, safety, tips (racing line and apex) in the entry forms.
Bro Nohad did raise the issue of drivers ignoring the blue flag. Our finding was that they actually did not know what the blue flag meant. Made some calls to some of the participants excluding my-KART members. Sorry to say that 10 out of 10 only knew what the chequered flag meant. We have learnt a lot now and for next year we will certainly be better prepared. As an A&P and Event Organiser, 90% of my jobs are either on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I can only hope that I could join you all again sometime soon. Any possibilities of an endurance race on a Wednesday night?

Participantya ya ya… normally briefing did show blue flag most of the time… but in actual, hardly see it being used…
i still remember most of the times when v trying to lap slower drivers, they seem to taught v are challenging his position and tends to give us hard time to pass them… and sometimes might end up some unwanted incident…
Actually the COC did brief the lady drivers on these before the start of day events. I believe many of them did not pay attention to it.
This is where the marshals at the pit should pay attention to in any of our future events.

Very true unless they have followed F1 or any other races.
I know the importance of flag signals bcos I was a marshal before at Batu Tiga track (at Matex hill somemore). Any complaints from the drivers for improper or lack of flagging, the marshals will be called to meet Jeff Amin to have a cup of coffee. To have different categories can be good or not so good.
Good in the sense of safety.
Not so good in the sense (of course not in a pure professional league) that newbies (unless they have not driven a kart or racing any vehicle before)would not get to get a chance to compete in a very competitive environment and might not get a real racing experience and learn from there.I do face the same problem when I planned to organise a company go-kart event before and I have to screen every registered participant of their experience.
Just my 2 sen worth of opinion.

what about d pictures? saw so many cameras there but no pictures?

Participant
tot all trohpies were given
Nope, I believe the trophies were initially planned for the top 3 overall standings in the endurance event but decided to break it up into different categories for fairness at the last minute and therefore the shortness of trophies for the Mixed category.
what about d pictures? saw so many cameras there but no pictures?
Sam should be working on that after his return from Johor.
Sam, any lights chasing after your car in the estates?I’m willing to buy the photos & video for the sake of charity.

ParticipantGuys…..guys….. dont worry. everything will be above board in a day or so. I was supposed to be in Johor for MR6 and APRC, instead had to go to Kangar, Perlis for the 7th round Petronas Cub Prix. Just got back a little while ago. There was actually a mix-up for the endurance trophies. Initialy there were supposed to be 3 categories. Men’s, Women’s and Mix. But the Women’s category was cancelled. Due to too hi-tech ICT that we have, the trophies came on that day were for Men’s and Women’s (the Mix category literaly got ‘Mixed up’). I knew you guys were much too macho to receive the Women’s trophies. Can I call you guys for a round of teh tarik when I got my hands on the trophies, say….maybe Tuesday night? At least for Team USJ, siangwei is also quite near (Sunway).
BTW, how did you guys do last Saturday? Is August a good month for any of Team USJ members? Bro Nohad did text me and errr… it could be the ‘bau kedai’. Need to perspire in it more…..perhaps.
