ParticipantDear Fazz,
just to refresh… I believe that part of the idea of getting a group for karting is to lower down the cost of kart rental for the group but now it seems that my-kart is putting it the other way around… I’m sure u have a very good reason to do it… the reason why I brought up this is that:
1. my-kart should already have the power as regular customer to City-karting by now. (it shows our organiser weaknesses “they said”)
2. I’m running a small karting group (20 pax) at my office and I’m about to bring them to my-kart but they start question me once they see the rental rates in my-kart site. (RM75,80 now 90??)
3. Walk in karter can easily get cheaper than that ie RM90 for 3 rounds (30 min) and even cheaper if they go for 4 stroke kart at other tracks.so my question is why keep increase?..
just to find outtq
Regards

ParticipantAzmee,
Before Fazz clarifies, let me give you my opinion.
1) Mykart is not bonded to CityKArting in anyway, so our pricing is also influenced by their pricing to us. MyKart does not have a contract with them so we cannot influence too much on what they quote us. At present, we use City Karting due to their better facilities, kart but there’s no guarantee on that long term – hence MyKart wants to have the flexibility to go else where too.
2) The last increase was to provide some fund to the MyKart prize pool. The earlier increases were from City Karting, as far as I know. In addition, the last increase was also to ensure some form of first aid is available for our event.
3) Before your members ask you about the increase, do ask them to try joining our events 1st and gauge what they are getting for their money’s worth. MyKart is NOT a profit organisation ( as yet ).
4) Pricewise at City Karting, I am only aware that walk-in customer pay RM35 ( 80cc karts ) for ten minutes with NO track reservation, NO race organisation, NO championship, NO limit on what kart is on track, NO friends to race with etc etc etc. NO track reservation means you meet some crazy 125 drivers zooming down your rear and scaring the hell out of you when we pass, leaving you no space to brake, corner as well…..
5) 4 stroke karts? We are in a speed sports – so the faster karts are favoured by our members. Unfortunately for us, speed and rental fees sseem to go hand in hand.
6) The price we are charged is market rate and for the quality of karts & venue, we think this is the best value we are getting.Hope to have given you some points of clarification.
Do join us, then you & your friends may review the comments.
Thanks.

ParticipantErghhhh, just want to clarify why I had to write a lengthy reply to Azmee’s comments .
I feel very strongly about this issue cos MyKart grew out of the dedication of some key members who voluntarily did all the hard work of organising, keeping this going, giving the group a vision, sacrificing time & money whilst trying to enjoy their passion of kart driving unselfishly. Of course all other members play their part too in supporting the group’s activities.
The organising guys get ZILCH in monetory returns but heaps of friends, pleasure, comradeship amongst people with similar driving pursuits & they are not complaining!
I find that the questions posted is a kick in the mouth but maybe it’s because I am a bit sensitive & nyayuk. I dun mean to offend okay, but just expressing my tots.
We can never please everyone ( & I suggest DUN ) – this is the last tot I want all of you to remember on this issue.

Azmee
Bro. This is a very valid question. I thank you for raising it. I always believe that we should be open with our views on this subject, and have always conducted ourselves this way. This forum is the best avenue for all concerns be addressed.
Thanks to Jules for providing his views.
However, I owe it to you and all myKARTers my own views on this subject. Whilst we want to offer affordable karting, we also need to do the following for long term sustainability:

ensure adequate safety response for myKARTers. Afterall as I always say, and I’ll say it again – karting, like any form of motors-sports is still dangerous, especially if we start to take things for granted. This is a no compromise situation. The moment we have a serious injury (and we have had some close calls), all this will come crashing down like a house of cards. So since round 3, I felt that it was necessary to have qualified first aiders & emergency response available. I hope you appreciate this. For transparency, it costs us RM180 for St John’s ambulance to be on standby for half a day. Tell me this is too much, and I will discuss further.

we want to reward and recognise our keen amateur karters. As an option, we can always go around racing as we normally do, and at the end of the year congratulate each other and wait for the next season to begin. This will not cost any additional money. However at the end of the day, I believe we should truly recognise those who have done well. It makes the whole myKART series worthwhile. After all, we are all human beings. And recognition is the best form of motivation. So the additional collection is to set aside for prizes etc. Does this help?
Anyway, since we touch on the subject of cost, I believe walk-ins pay RM30 per 10mins at best (if you are regular). The listed price is RM35 per 10mins. I believe we still have a good deal, plus you get safety and a championship (with prizes) thrown in. Not to mention the great friends you make along the way.
The additional RM10 works out to about RM400 per round (assuming 40 pax). RM180 goes to St John’s and the rest goes into the pot. Over 10 rounds we should be able to collect around RM2,200 – which should give enough for prizes. Also, myKART intends to bring in guest racers & media to add in spice once in a while – so we may use some of this monies to pay for them.
In the longer run, the myKART Foundation members are thinking of expanding this project further. But the emphasis will always be on the grassroots enthusiasts. So low cost of entry is important, we cannot afford to discourage the people whom we wish to attract to popularise grassroots motor-sports. Hope your friends see it this way.
So bro, does this help? And again, thank you for raising the issue. I really appreciate it. If there is anything else I can respond to please let me know.

MemberAnother thing….
When Azlan and I started myKART we didn’t imagine it would be like what it is now. We currently have 40-50 people turning up every month. And easily 30 regulars. myKART has now existed for close to 3 years. What we started, now cannot be stopped.
It is now an obligation that I have to continue making myKART the first choice in grassroots karting.
Along the way, I’ve developed a vision of where myKART will be. Certainly this is no longer a fly by night project. We now owe it to all myKARTers, racing enthusiasts at large, the motor-sports industry and the nation even – that myKART shall continue championing the grassroots enthuasiast. In order to do this, we need to be able to sustain the whole project and build on myKART’s identity.
This is why I open the invitation to the myKART Foundation Conference to all members. Help us by being a part of this motor-sports revolution.
“Forza myKART!”

ParticipantI have to agree with jules…afterall the rm 90 is worth every single cents to me…not just for the rentals…but also for the atmosphere, comradeship & fun friendly friends…and now with a little bit of peace at the back of my mind..that in case someone decide to climb over me while I’m leading a race…the pretty nurse is just around the corner..ready to give me CPR…hehehe;)
anyway seriously..one should really come & join the race and evaluate from inside and decide if the rm90 is a bit too much for them…
still…it is also good that azmee brought this matter up…since motorsport is expensive… MyKart must strive to make it affordable to those grassroots motorsport enthusiast…my 2 cents

ParticipantFor RM90, you get someone to do safety briefing, tabulate the results, organise the grid, do the lap charts, wave the flags, etc : these are stuff you don’t get for being a walk-in customer. Once upon a time, most of us were walk-in karters, and it ain’t a thrill to go round & round until the City Karting personnel calls you in.
MyKart’s format makes the interest in karting sustainable, coz competition keeps the interest alive. You can also chart your own progress through K3, then K2 and beyond.
Hopefully, once sponsors come in, the price can be reduced again???!!!! That’s just a dream for now………

ParticipantComrades,
From a personal viewpoint, paying RM90 is just too little for 3 races, racing with friends (not much friends in AAM sanctioned races), electric atmosphere, a championship (add some prizes too) and the comfort of an ambulance; man! thats an unheard of deal so far ….StarKart wants to do better? …yet to be seen. And dont forget, the organisation (this website and forum included) and management effort (..someone is up before the sun does) and skills behind it? Wow! I would consider myself lucky for not paying double. Perhaps, I spoke too soon….??However, I could see Azmee’s points as a concern to mykart with regards to potentially scaring away some funkarters (exclude diehards) due to rising costs. I would encourage Azmee to explain to his group of karters the mykart FUN + VALUE factor versus just merely as walk-in karters… as we all should to others.

Participanti wonder hows the condition of the 80cc after round 1. nobody likes to pay the same amount and get rotten karts for the qualifying heats.
with good negotiation skills, u can get about 25 mins for rm70 as a group of arrive n drive customers.
20 May 2005 at 3:15 am #2063OSFlanker
ParticipantThe normal rate for corporate events at City Karting is RM3,000 per hour, though that can be negotiated but as far as I know, what we are paying is good value considering the track is exclusive for MyKart use from 8am to 2pm (sometimes), which is 6 hours!
As said before, walk-in customers have to share the track and sometimes have to give way to 100cc / 125cc karts and that spoils the race.

Seriously how can u compare walk-in with MyKart races…no brainer-lah & there’s where the money difference pays…if there was one in the 1st place! ( walk-in 3 x RM 35 versus RM90 with 3 x races plus management etc. etc. adoi!!! )

If we all collaborate well, this will not just be a dream. The idea is to leverage all the entreprenuers, professionals and managers that we have in the group and build a strong base from there. I believe this is only a matter of time.
But myKART will always remain the grassroots’ choice, and we shall always focus on these people.

I don’t think we should go that way. myKART shall keep the rates attractive as far as we can.
But Azmee raises a very valid concern (no doubt on behalf of his colleagues) -particularly for those newbies. We must still try to attract more participants (we want to build the Foundation) and in reality cost is a factor.
The only way I can respond is that give myKART a go (or a few goes at that), and then decide.
