Well the worse was when my friend laughed at me and said that karting wasn’t a sport… this was quickly resolved though with a whole bunch of friends and myself scolding him and saying that it was definitely a sport..

    My cinderella story..

Lecturer : Isnt Go Karting dangerous????
Me : Yes…but with proper gear and techniques….will minimise d risk.
(Answering assuming its a genuine innocent Q )

    Lecturer : What if u got injured….(with SARCASTIC tone/look)
Me : Treat it??? (starting to get annoyed…)

Lecturer : What if u were involved in a bad accident while go karting and u break ur
    leg/arm??
(SARCASTIC tone with challenging expression /one eyebrow raised)
Me : (thinking….WHAT IS WITH THE “WHAT IF QUESTIONS???”)

    He (lecturer) continues…
Lecturer : WHAT IF u die??

this is d point where i cant tolerate his “WHAT IF” @#$%)*&^%$# QUESTIONS…so i answered..
Me :Sir ,if u wanna take into account “WHAT IF” this happens….”WHAT IF ” that happens…that nothing will move.cause we’ll never know what will happen d very next minute.not to mention go kartla..
EVEN AS WE R SITTING NOW IN THIS BUILDING…WE NEVER KNOW THAT IT MIGHT COLLAPSE ANY SECOND…OR TRIP DOWN D STAIRS..(or even just drop dead…right??)anything can happen..(so why ridiculing karting????)

    lecturer : – SILENT –

** somehow i managed to answer with a firm tone but still maintain respectfull to him **

    suggested solutions.
*explain NICELY to those who ask NICELY ;p
*to those who prefer 2 ask in a rather rude manner…ARGUES blindly…i think we just need to be patient (keep the “parang” far far away….)hahahaha…look at them in d EYE and CORRECT back firmly d misconsception…d rest…let them DIGEST..
    * lastly practice safe healthy races…………..plus pre-race briefing….(exactly what we r doin..)

    2) expensive laa, my pocket not that deep ma
    3) too fast for me… scary!! (eventough they drive a lot faster on e road)
    4) don’t wanna waste my time.. i have family you know!!

“too expensive” … “too scared” … “don’t have time” are the usual answers …

yang boleh tahan poyo pon ade jugak … today he/she said “eh jom aa gokart weekend ni” … then on the weekend itselft “ala tak larat la … takde budget la” … pooodah … those are just excuses for being soo chicken … haha

how to correct? dunno just yet lah … been searching for that answer for years

In my case..luckily my surroundings are “well-explained”, whenever my frens asked what i do on weekends, i just told them beside spending time with family, i go karting with them ..but they never asked qs abt accidents and hw u cope with the noise and stuff, they even curious and interested to know more..maybe they never thot a person like me (who loves to shop, saloon and always whining in the traffic:P) are into that..

How to correct it? i think NOW(F1 Season) is the best time to explain a lil bit more about how interesting karting is…more like public awareness.if you noticed the public viewing in Malaysia are getting more every year..the best ppl who shd let public knw abt karting are the celebrities/f1 drivers themselves..to promote safety plus leisure at the same time.. coz they still think motorsports are dangerous..

With all the xcuses about time, money and stuff..that means theyre not committed enough…that its up to tuan empunye diri…;)

    Scenario 1 :
Normal question asked : RM35/- for 1 hour kah?

Whaaaatttt!!!!! RM35/- for 10 minutes only kah !!??
In my heart : Hmmmppphhh! If you can last more than 15 minutes driving a kart at competition pace then only you talk lah!

    Scenario 2 :
Go-kart? What is that? The one that with remote control one kah?

    Scenario 3 :
Go-kart? Ooohh, the one with the grass cutter engine one ah? Like the one at Genting ah?
    Where got difficult to drive?

    CONCLUSION :
    1) Majority of the car drivers & non-car drivers knows nuts about motorsport.
    2) Most of them think : I can drive 140km/h in my car, so where got problem driving a go-kart. (But they didn’t realise that they are driving an handling assisted vehicle whereas a go-kart isn’t)

The only way is to bring them to the track and ask them to drive as fast as possible to realise the fun.

    3) The other group of people is the one that can talk so much (sadly theory only) about driving a fast car, powerboost, turbos, adjustable suspension, etc…… but when ask them to drive a kart, they will be spinning everywhere.
to bring them to reality by showing their driving about driving a non-assisted

a wise old japanese man once told me….
sensei-san : “bosozoku-san….. to make ppl join mykart..first, you must be consistent!”
    me : “consistent sensei-san??”
sensei-san : “consistently talk to them about karting..and persuade them ”
me : “i dont think it would work..”
sensei-san : “it will… bosozoku-san, either they going to join you for karting or.. you gonna have alot of free time being alone and more space during lunch!”

the moral of the story…consistency applies in every aspects of our lives..not only while on track.. but, if u ask the wrong people, you’d get rejected easily 😉 hehehe
