good question Fazz .. we struggled a bit to find the right way to do this and this is what we did.
after the race the total race time of everyone in class 1 and class 2 are then compiled/ranked into 1 list and points are then awarded for positions 1st to 15th in this list ..

that means the 1st position winner in class 2 can now be ranked 9th in the overall list and he will only get 9 points instead of the full 20 points ..

this will encourage class-2 karters to improve and move to class-1 because of the chance of earning more points …

check out our championship table here—> http://www.sg-karting.com/Racing/Championship_Table.html

    Cheers man …

    hi Fazz ..

The Class segregation was based on several factors .. whether they’ve participated before and how fast were they in the previous rounds .. these make up the pre-determined group for Class-1 .. then during the practice we assessed which karters were fast and experienced and put them into Class-1 .. the rest fall into Class-2 ..

Jason and Angeline couldn’t make it (again) this time around .. πŸ™

    Hi all ..

4 months ago a small idea popped into my head and along the way came the Caltex event, then the fatefull meeting with Paul, email communications with Fazz (and his guys) who gave me a lot of help and look at where we are now ..

    – a successful round-1 .. with many more rounds coming
    – dedicated core members and a few lovely lady supporters
    – 30-odd members and counting

i am really happy that round-1 went very well .. the core members did an amazing job and importantly the participants gave a bunch of crazy guys like me & Paul a chance to organize this event .. i know that there are still a lot of areas for us to improve and rest assured we’re looking at this from all possible angles …

now, let’s keep the momentum going….

and btw, congrats to Desmond for winning our first event!!!
to the guys at my-kart, next time please send us one of your slow racers to boost our confidence .. hahaha ..

    Cheers,
Fuji,
That Batam race sounds very appealing and I was talking to some other friends in Singapore last night and they also mentioned that Batam and Bintan tracks. I’m sure there’ll be some interest from my-karters….guys and gals, what say you…let’s head down south for some Soto Ayam Chicken Wings!!! :P
Hey saa73 ..

One the details of Bintan & Batam are finalized I’ll post the announcement in the usual places .. so look out for it ..

And if you come to SG again, I’ll take you to the BEST SOTO Ayam .. !! I just discovered this new place too.

ps/ BTW, Jason & Angeline contacted me about the event on the 24th @ Permas, unfortunately we had no more slots left. But I told them to lookout for the event in Jan @ Batam.
any sites that links to batam track? and where is batam? how is the track layout?
Here’s the link to Bintan track ..
    http://www.bintan-gokart.com/

The track in Bintan is a technical circuit with fast but short straights. For those familiar with Kart World @ Jurong, you’ll appreciate it’s demand on your physical strength as well as precision driving. Not many overtaking opportunities here so your qualifying is crucial. Sounds like Monaco?

    hi all …

first a BIG BIG THANK YOU to Azlan aka saa73 for meeting up with me and witnessing the ‘birth’ of Singapore’s karting group. Paul (my partner in crime) spoke to me about how lucky we were to have one of my-kart’s founding member there with us that night to impart some of his experience and guidance ..

to add to saa73’s report above:
    – yes we’re very keen on organizing an f1-sepang trip+kart event+joint race w/ my-kart .. Fazz, we might want to start developing this plan early.

    – race format for nov24th: prior to that night’s pre-event meeting, we had several discussion on quali/race format: reverse grid, my-kart’s format, normal grid, etc. in the end, we decided to leave the decision to the group to make sure everyone has a sense of ownership to how the club is run.

    – I stated publicly that I want to achieve what my-kart has achieved and that philosophy and vision is similar .. I’m not ashamed to say that I’m copying shamelessly my-karts way of running the club (lol)

    – my-kart guys in Singapore, namely Jason, Angeline, etc. please do support us in our upcoming races (january, etc.)

    – January race = we’re planning an event in Batam (possibly 3rd week of Jan). Azlan mentioned that members from my-kart might be keen. I’m more than happy to have you guys join us.

All right.. .that’s it for now .. catch you guys again soon.

    Hi ..

1/ I can help Luen with the ‘something’
2/ Meeting will be in the evening, most likely near Clarke Quay in fact. I can fetch you from there and we’ll go to the meeting place.

    Fuji.

Hi saa73 ..
FUJI, great stuff, got yr number too. Just found out that our Race Technical Director, Luen, will be in Singapore at the same time too. We’ll see whether we can join you on the 16th, but hopefully it’s in the evening after work….although I gotta check with Luen on his plans..in case he’s planning to go to Geylang for beef noodles or something.. πŸ˜‰
I’ll most likely be staying in a hotel near Clarke Quay, in the vicinity of my office, so do let me know where your meeting’s gonna be held….hope it’s not too far in the Heartlands as I’ll get lost then!!

Talk to you guys again soon .. cheers ..
why don’t you visit here daily? i would consider your group a “my-kart singapore”. we can even create a singapore group for you guys on this very website…
Hi Fazz .. now that I’ve got my username/pwd thing settled I plan to come here more often ..

Thanks for considering us a ‘my-kart:singapore’ though I feel its too soon to honor us with that name πŸ™‚ let us proof our worthiness by succesfully running a few events first …. then you can ‘bestow’ that title upon us ..

    Cheers,

    Hi saa73 ..

Glad to be able to meet you .. In fact the Singapore Karting Racers Club members here will meet on the 16th to finalize our plans .. you’re definitely more than welcome .. if your schedule doesn’t allow you to join on the 16th, I can meet you personally while you’re here .. i’ll at least try to get 1 or 2 of the core members to join.

As you mentioned, any tips would help us a lot cuz we’re just starting out and we want to make sure we can replicate what you guys did at my-kart so succesfully! The key for me is to develop the right culture & atmosphere so we can sustain the interest long term.

I’ll send you a PM to give you my details.

ps/ do join us for the 24th Nov event @ Permas Jaya too.

    Cheers,
    FUJI.
fuji,

I’ll be in Singapore from 15-18 Nov. Perhaps we could meet up and have a discussion about your Nov 24th event? As co-founder of my-KART I’ve run far too many of these events than I can remember, and can share some tips with you. WOuld be great to meet up with Angie and any other my-Karters who are now in Singapore.

My number’s +6012-3904887; could you send me yours, maybe by Private Msg? I’ll promote yr event to my Singapore friends too..some of them already have 100/125cc karts at Permas…in fact, they tell me Permas is a really excellent track and mimics the Pasir Gudang car track…must try it out…I’m tempted to go down to Permas on 24th Nov too!:)
