ParticipantGuys,
I was there for the K1 premier and Race 1, so here’s my observation. Please take this constructively!
– Kart Prepping # 1, for all karts please at least check ur own brakes BEOFRE you go out each heat. I have emphasised this even from a few years ago….its your life, so please do it.
– Kart Prepping # 2, for K1 guys, as seniors please learn to do more, ie. check ur kart more diligently. Tyre pressures, water in radiator, lube of chain, brake condition, battery terminal secured – EACH time before you race…all these will help ur win and karting knowledge, so please do it. It would be a shame if you all arrive and drive like a F1 star….
– Kart Prepping # 3, if you want to remove the weights, please do it yourself as all it takes is 2 spanners ( as Ramsey suggested ). In future, you may want to mark this ballast with your name so you know this is what you need to attach to your kart even when you swap karts. Best of course, if you can partner with a equal weight driver. You may wnat to reduce the fuel load if the difference is 1-2 kg…..without removing the weights!
– Kart Prepping # 4, esp for K1 – please NEVER drive your kart in the pits as you will short out your RM80 racing spark plug……..and you wun win when it misfires in the race or worse, wun start. Ramsey was cautioned by me and I hope he takes it positively.
– Race Start and my commenst are from what I see in K1 start Race 1.
a) there is NO NEED FOR the YELLOW pace kart. The 1st 2 guys should control the pace and approach the start line in tandem and all behind to follow suit. The pace kart is TOO SLOW and this can foul plugs of the 125 karts. ( even 100cc )
b) The starter should NEVER show his intention on when he will start the race. All this 1 finger showing an indication to start race the next round is nonsense. At the current location of the start line, you have 3/4 round for the karts to bunch up…..and please expect that the start can be even on this 1st lap!
c) I was told that the green flag was held high to show the pace kart that the race will start next round……and everyone in the following karts knows that too.
d) For warming up laps, you may want to reduce this for subsequent heats and as said, even start the race on the 1st lap out, which happens in pro racing.Guys, if you want to experience FULL RACE conditions, the above should be followed as this simulates the situation accurately.
Hope this helps.

Participant
Naza boss, how much total charge for bringing own kart from CK to sepang ah? any figure?
not sure what’s the going rate for transport…..n fuel. The rate depends on how many want to share cost for the transport truck…..
BUT for sure u pay RM70 just to practise at Sepang and u pay SIC guys on the track….
Jules
Participantguys,
Not sure if it matters but here’s my comment after a run in the kart last Sat.
– the kart set up was….none. Due to the power delivery of the Junior Max engine, your kart will snap into oversteer easily mid corner esp with these tyres. So best to have more grip at rear.
– otherwise, you need to be smooth n gentle with throttle to avoid the above, which to most who are exposed to rental karts – requires some seat time to familiarise.
– yes, ballast is needed for this class cos otherwise, dun bother cos you wun get a equal racing anymore.cheers,

Jules
ParticipantKGKart,
Thanks for reply and I am still clueless if you are a concerned father or fan. I think it will draw a better light to the topics at hand.
You also took the words off my mouth – whilst everyone not concerned including you/me can voice their opinions in this forum ( but typically messing up the facts as like now ), the best persons to clarify and explain are those involved on this bumping issue.
I put my side of story on the driving off the track ‘little’ incident, as I relate from that experience that he is a very competitive driver. ( maybe a tad overdoing it but that’s my opinion ). Anyhow, I dun dare comment how bad was the bumping or tapping in the last race……cos I was not involved. Is kart no. 5 a member here? Pls post a reply.
Your noble intention of guiding our young Malaysian is good and this is why we are saying – bumping someone is not so recommended. If it sound like a critisism, perhaps a linguistic expert can word it better but the meaning’s the same. It also has nothing about being unpatriotic just because we are talking about a fellow Malaysian driver…..and cos the one involved is a Finnish dun change the opinons or facts for the issue at hand. No, I dun think I was out to also pick on him cos otherwise I would mention my own incident much much earlier.
From your reply, I can see that you think bumping is nothing wrong. ( tho I have given you a Marienbourg specific incident ) Please be mindful, there are many new & aspiring karters reading this and by virtue of your insistence of his innocence here – we are breeding many drivers who could think like you.
All it takes is just one guy to buy a nice race kart, go into a KBS race and take Kart No. 5 out( or me, or Mikko or anyone else ) by overzealous bumping and this is WHAT WE DUN WANT!
IN GENERAL, we all can have opinions, and can post in any forums, or verbally say it even but I think BEING RESPONSIBLE IN OUR OPINIONS & ACTIONS are vital.
I have said enough, so sorry for my ramblings. Guys, who know me – will understand my old age is catching up and I am a stickler to safety! LOL!
Safe karting.
Jules
ParticipantKGkart,
No one has mentioned any names except you, so please remember this.
May I know what capacity are you replying this in? If you are the concerned driver’s father – I will give you a wide margin since I am also a parent myself and understand the defensive reply.
From my end – I am merely relating my personal experience with concerned party at the AKOC races last year which if you are keen to know, is my 1st time mentioning this incident to anyone.
For me, he is making a career out of this and me, enjoying the sports and hence I left this incident as such. No protest needed but opinions formed.
Anyhow since the issue was brought by some on the bumping on a very recent race, his driving atitude came into question.
I find your answer on this most interesting and I would like to offer you an analogy on on track bumping.
Not getting caught while doing illegal U-turns at traffic lights ( unless sign posted otherwise ) does not mean its legal. As he is progressing higher in the sports ( which is good ), the posters who mentioned about his frequent bumping could be concerned that he may carry such unhealthy driving habits in Formula cars and later pay the price.
By the way, it is illegal to bump even in karting – and in Europe they are very strict about it. I dun know which European race you attended but I am aware that one driver was requested to start from the back after his bumping incident the heat before. The organisers told him on on the dummy grid for the next race! No letter, no bulletin, no annoucement. Why is it no policed here? Well,…. organising events is hard enough.
I think we all mean well – tho it could have been worded better, and if you are a parent – you will understand our sincerity.
If you are not and is merely a supporter/bystander/observer, you have no business in this thread cos we spoke with personal experience with the mentioned driver.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Jules
Participanteager kid? ha ha…..he tried to run me off the track once in QUALIFYING…..
and one day, his atics will be rewarded since he is into bigger machines as well, where an off is a much painful and expensive affair…
Jules
Participantwhy? u running a team, mikko?
Jules
Participantbro,
thanks for effort but ur flag locations wrong…..esp if u come with 100cc speeds.
flags should be at END of straights BEFORE the set of corners you want covered. U gotta think of the tyre barriers which at times block a clear view of next set of bends when u plan this. Line of sight sitting on a kart…..not standing ok?
Good effort and yes, getting ppl to do this will be the biggest hurdle. All others ( location can kautim ). One flag enough….or even no need flag – just a guy to show PRE-AGREED hand signals will do!
Have fun.
Jules
ParticipantCongrats to Ede for being crowned the Malaysian RMC champion. A rookie taking the top rostrum…wuhoo!
Have fun at the World Finals and also the ROK World Cup….so I heard!
For the rest including Dass, a pat on your effort this year is needed. Learn to recognise and work out where you can improve and that will make you a better racer for the next year season.
Most important is you have FUN while doing this….safely too!
