Participantsatu HABUK pun tak nampak hari ahad….
only Suzuki-san had some private coaching on track with me.
I test drove the Sonik…..susah mau kejar a softer compound MRF tyred Kosmic / Rotax Max, driven by Suzuki-san.
Shifter kart running in was ok but engine not revving beyond 12000rpm…semput likely due to faulty fuel pump…..30min running in only done but still nice with gears!

Participantif we continue 100cc….
1) the perceived jump in skills required may not be as what the karters want.
2) we may get less drivers since no one has a YAMAHA or PRD 100cc privately, so we get less entries.
3) with the tyres – our speed could be slower than k2….which again will not be potraying the correct image. We need the tyres to make this cheap!
4) I think karters who dun like to tinker around, will soon lose interest in K1 Yamaha 100cc cos everyone is already used to the speed of the 100cc and they wun have clue what to adjust.
5) of course, this will be cheaper and easier to run and less things to go wrong which all adds to the fun event. If we continue 125cc….
1) the cost have to be managed somehow…….
2) more private karters can join as well,
3) damage cost can be costly as well.Jules
Participantsince it’s so quiet, here’s my comments.
The K1 racing is very reasonable for private karters actually since the tyres already cost RM250 or so and if you add the RM170 for the practise, fuel, crew…..you are already in excess of what you paid for the race….which was RM330.
Sure I dun want to mention possible damage but racing builds your driving ability and racecraft…..not only going round in circles.
For rental drivers – yes, I can understand this is not cheap since you basically walk away clean except with an experience….whereas the private drivers get to keep the tyres. Of course you dun get headache of maintaining a kart so it’s kinda up to your own agenda what you want from this.
I think K1 should continue to cater for both private and rentals – and let’s see who will outlast and stay on……
The K1 to me also serves another purpose of giving a potential 125 kart buyer a taste of what he can expect – at almost race pace, before he commits his money! Naturally, I hope he will then continue on K1 with his newly purchased 125 kart…..
Anyhow, comments please boys!

ParticipantBomoh Hujan @ Muhaimin,
I think both your weight helped in the slippery conditions…..
but I have to agree that cooler air and the lack of vision adds to the speed factor, real and perceived. ( did u compare lap times with day time.
Btw, concluded ur Haase kart deal?
Jules
ParticipantJUST CHECKED w City Karting
The 2 top mechanics Kok Seng and Ah Boon are in Macau for the FIA CIK final year race this weekend.
If you want run ur 125s, please inform the rest of boys in advance……
I have clearance to run in the 125 6 speedster monster…which could be boring for some of you…as run-in takes time and techniques to not overrev a defined limit.
Sunday likely…..

Participant

i got a first-hand “jules treatment” during the last event… it was unnerving… hahaha…
it was when his kart broke down in of the k1 heats… he was walking down pit lane… muka serious giler… then i open my trapped and asked him “what happened la bro…?”… and he just stared at me… rolled his eyes… and just continued walking… …….
Bro, i think what happened was he looked at you, couldn’t remember your name (uncle mah) so he just pretended to be angry and walked off. kekeke
You guys crack me up…..seriously! LOL
Actually, Ed – I was thinking DAMMM….missed a chance to let Jennifer wave me the chequered flag and was thinking how to chat her up!!!! ke ke ke
Of course half of that was like what OSF said……he he he Uncle oredi!
sorry if tersinggung hati…bro!
Dunno about you guys – but when I race, nothing and no ones comes to mind……yes, it’s that intense and I wonder if Alvin can ever hack that! he he he
Anyhow, I MAY have to miss tomorrow, other call of duty……so dun be angry if u no see me there. Perhaps Sunday if I dun come tomorrow ok?
cheers.
Jules
Participantka ka ka….
yes, I dun normally start a chat with other patrons of the track unless I know you personally well.
anyhow, blame it on my old age or adrenaline overdose – I dun recall names that well…..so I rather not embarass myself.
BUT, you are always welcome to break the ice and talk to me – no problems. I wear a suit with “HAASE” logo.
I avoid Pilot Belon’s Karipap so I dun need to make a hasty pitstop by the toilets halfway thru race…. 🙂

ParticipantOSF and guys,
Can I relate to you a REAL INCIDENT which most who attended the last ROK Rd 5 will know.
As you know, all our racing gear must be scrutinised along with the kart. This includes the helmet.
Our young driver, a newbie – had the latest gear in everything so passed the scrutinising easily…..
During the race, he had a harmless tangle which saw him riding on top of someone at Turn 1 Elite. Somehow he came off the kart backwards and BASHED his head on the tarmac – yes, head first.
His gleaming white, all latest approved helmet BOUNCED OFF HIS HEAD next like a ping pong ball literally but lucky his head was by then off the ground and he did not snap his head….
Thankfully he pick himself up and walked away….until he met YOURS TRULY, for a PUBLIC INQUIRY.
To cut a long story short, he fastened his helmet incorrectly and did not use the double buckle on his helmet…..he looped his strap once and clip it on the provided buckle….instead of double lopping it thru the 2nd buckle!!!!!
The moral is we can scruntise everything except your knowledge….
OSF,
Onwards to Pasir Gudang – bravado and lack of skills is a bad mix. No one got injured, thankfully. No helmet can save you 100%.As instructors, pls analyse WHY this happen in first place to prevent repeats. You also spun me at T11 and I hope u know why….. 🙂
Drive safely..
Jules
Participantnow that would be both messy, scary and funny! sick lar u!
Jules
ParticipantFor casual karting which includes K2, K1 – any close face helmet will do as long as it’s in good safe condition.
Bike helmets are ok for karting and yes, if you fly off a kart – it replicates a situation you hope to avoid on bikes.
Car helmets are used mainly in karting competitions but bike helmets too – there’s no rule to say you cannot, at least it must be a CLOSE helmet. The only other ruling is that they should meet the stipulated standards which can mean SA2000, SA2005 ( not yet seen in races SR yet ) or the simpler BS.
Btw, car helmets have a smaller eye port mostly and a thicker visor 3mm. Some of fire retardant which is not required for karting…..and some car helmets have also chin spoilers which are not so suited for karting cos when you fly off and roll, the chin spoiler may break your collar bone…..not nice. Same can happen on bike helmets too but less chance….
So in a nut shell, buy the most expensive helmet you can afford to protect your most precious asset….er, your MAIN HEAD!
cheers.

I also hope to run a rotary valve shifter kart……..6 gears!cheerio!
That demon of a machine is already here?…You will need 4 point harness to keep your butt in place.
It’s an old rotary valve shifter……but I can tell you it will command all the respect you need to drive it……40+hp on a kart is SCARY. Rotax has 28hp, brand new.
I need 0.5kg to hold me down !! 🙂

Participant

i will try to be there this SATURDAY……say at 1pm onwards.
As I am a bit shy – pls come up to me and say hi or if u want a play drive…..just ask me. As promised to some – if my time permits, free coaching is also possible but of course success of learning is not guaranteed.
Hope to see some of the private karters there as welll i.e. Luen, Muhaymin, Alvin and Jason……
I also hope to run a rotary valve shifter kart……..6 gears!
cheerio!
Sifu Jules, I will try to come this Saturday. Just a question to ask, do I need to buy another set of tires for practice if I have intention to go for the forth coming K1 series?
———————————-
neat, balance and practical
Since k1 is still not 100% certain, yes pls use it cos by the time we start a new K1 season, we will start on new tyres…..
Unless u have ur old sets one still lying around & still useable ( before the last K1 race ) then I wun bother and just run with what you have on kart…..
Pray no rain ok!
Jules

Participant

I cannot understand too and we will never do standing starts on 125….PERIOD. Foul plugs will be 50% reason all will be stranded.
Actually the 1st corner after the start on the 1st lap is taken slower than norm so I dunno why this is dangerous. Controlled agression is called for and I expect some bumping here as well, all done at slower speed so it’s ok – so that’s part of the accepted game.
Of course spinners are not welcomed….he he he
…agreed, I think everyone was controlled at the first corner…except that spinner dude…
yeah lah.. basket lah that spinner dude.. panggil die … kasi hantam..
Don’t Just DRive IT, fEEL it!!!
Fiki – since I started the “name”, I apologise if it offended your feelings.
We are not professional racers ( otherwise some of us wun be here ) but we try to replicate the real deal as much as possible for the K1 series.
If you notice, even K3, K2 are on rolling starts now and controlled driving into and out of T1 is what we teach…..
Yes, we debated this openly many years ago and we can say we successfully implemented the rolling starts.
Hope the matter clarifies…..
