ParticipantAiyah, guys – I spent 30 minutes last minute typing a full accoount of my test but when I submit……the MyKart web hung on me…:(
In short, the times are comparable to the Yamaha, 1 min 02sec and nowhere close to a Rotax which stands at 54-55 sec a lap.
BUT it’s very fun cos of the shifting and I dare say it takes a bit more physical & a lot more mental effort to drive it. Good fun anyway in my books.
Do ask BM5 for his veiwpoint too….since it’s his 1st experience on shifters. Naza, if u approached me that day – u will be writing this review-lah! Next time okie?
Cheers.
Jules
ParticipantSimon, me too!
Fazz, I think if the kart & chassis is local, yes the 5K figure could be reached but as my initial statements, there will be quite a few years ahead before we can do the local chassis properly.
In any case, I am all go for a MiM complete kart!

How about the chassis – is that local too? Since the exhaust is custom made, it must be local – perhaps RIMUS brand?
We were told that City Karting will import the tubular frames preformed but will do the welding and assembly here thus cutting costs and acquire know how in the process. Indeed, the idea is also to keep the Modenas bike engine almost in original configuration to allow owners to do maintenance with the local motorbike shops. Yes, it remain to be seen how far this will be realise. What will happen when there are 50 or more mykarters with their own machines practising on the eve of Round No…..in category K2.1 Open Formula hehehe! Each having some secret enhancements somewhere. Look like Fazz will have to draw up new dos and donts perhaps.
Before we all get to excited about the Made in Malaysia kart…do understand that it takes a HUGE effort from all to get this running.
I would not even think about the possibility of chassis manufacture rite now and by the way, this idea was around for a while. The material of the chassis is likely chrome molybdenum alloy or similar, so you must have to rite tools to cut, bend and weld the stuff. A proper job should then have the rite coating/painting later as well.
As not to dampen the spirit of anyone on this, it would be very good if the engine/exhaust can be made to run well for any generic kart chassis. The chassis deal is the next step, in cost optimising.
Once the R&D is over, I will suggest to City KArting that MyKart be allowed to make a few races with them ( for a fee ) when a small fleet is available – as a showcase.
This will surely kick start the whole concept of a giving the public a reasonably priced kart and grassroot racing promotion in tandem – win win for City Karting, MyKart and the general public.
What do u guys think? If you can tell me how much you are willing to pay for such a kart ownership – all the better but RM5K will not get u a new imported chassis, okie. Please take note.
Cheers

ParticipantGuys,
A kart has a FINITE lifespan as the chassis will stiffen over time and usage from the flexing….so you buy the used units at your own risk cos there’s no test procedure for this…and being a race machine, you need every bit to help ur lap times!
There’s also an issue of spares……and the Jap karts are probably YAMAHA make which is non-existent here.
If you want to buy it for just puttering around, then I think there’s plenty of local avenues around and will safe you some headaches later.
Have fun & good luck! In any case, this is the wrong thread to raise this issue too.
Jules
ParticipantActually, I was to have tested it after our 1st round….for a feedback to City Karting. However this was canned as it was not ready as the gears were not correctly sorted out. ( & I ran out of time too ) It’s now at a shop having its exhaust pipe custome made…..
Heard it laps around the Yamaha times BUT the thrill will be in the shifting of gears!
Let’s see how this turns out but it will be a good class to start – local engine class and I hope NO MODS.
Jules
ParticipantFazz, no idea on the track buying bit…..not heard it from CityKarting myself.
Track’s okay and I do rate it to be a bit dangerous…..a Turn 2 or 3 ( the fast rite BuMpY loop )are places where huge accidents are waiting to happen…and even Turn 4 where my pal went “superman” one year racing a 125….the last corner “too tight” is a bit a joke….ALL IMHO okie.
The facilities & location are top notch though. Only small complaint is the entry via PLUS.
Heck, this is the wrong thread to talk abt this but is MyKart buying a track soon ah? hint hint!!
Jules
ParticipantWell, when we appoint observers……I think things can get a bit sticky/tedious/time consuming…..but if everyone agrees – we can try it.
My suggestion is nothing too new to you all…if you think you drove like an idiot or had a kart which made you drive like an idiot ( yes, one of those days..) – then just go & see the guy you had a “clash” with….and apologise/explain ur moves….
If YOU CANNOT DO THAT…..see one of the K2 drivers and get him/her to bring you two together – of course you explain your complaint nicely to the driver involved & K2 “judge” in attendance…after the a quick agreement of the situation – the K2 “judge” should leave you 2 to sort it out GENTLEMANLY…..
simple rite? I personally prefer this way actually since we are already finding it hard to man the start flags/the grid/the lap taking duties! It was not fun to see some of you standing under the sun for that day…..thanks guys, you know who u r!
Karting is a sports – so please treat it as such and when you think you played a bit hard……please acknowledge by a simple “sorry” – by an IMMEDIATE on-track gesture and later a personal apology….and if need be – a teh tarik.
Okie? but again I am open to the observers thingy also – if need be.
Cheerio!

ParticipantAnother WRC follower here……BEST drivers in the world! no question!
OSF, wasn’t it that Schumi got beaten hands down last year in Nov during the Rally of the Champions?
I support no driver or team in particular….cos everyone is so good!
Jules
ParticipantThese karts are ex-Mofaz and introduced to let everyone ( even those with less budget ) have a go….naturally, they will not be faster than the 80cc.
Not driven yet but expect them to be a bit faster here on a track with long straights as compared to other tracks in the Klang Valley…wink, wink.
There’s also one for the Juniors…..with a 4hp MITSUBISHI engine…..not a Evo variant though! he he!
Jules
Participantwah….no I know why I so slow one….doing all wrong things-lah…sigh! 🙂
Jules
ParticipantMe too….thanks Simon!
Jules
ParticipantYes!!! 80cc no need brake ones…..the steering IS the brakes…
On 100cc, different story ok. 125cc another slight different one again esp on Rotax.
Seriously, braking is different for differnt corners. For beginners, I can only say brake max on straight line, turn in while letting brakes go IN PROPOTION with ur steering angle, clip apex and throttle out whilst unwinding ur steering……again in PROPORTION. Very simple. Key point – never have a point where you are not on the brakes or throttle – COASTING loses time…
At the end, practise is what u need. Practise till it becomes 2nd nature & no thinking needed when u do it.
Have fun….YEHHHHAAAAA!
Master Jedi Jules? HA HA HA HA!!!
