Just got back today form India after a fairly long trip with the Swiss Hutless AP team including an 8 hour bus ride and a 13 hour transit in Sri Lanka.

The track was wicked with a ~15 second flat out section followed by another fast section and then a very slow twisty bit (which had the asphalt breaking up and being patched up so times varied by over a second from session-to-session sometimes). The first corner was tricky on race starts with the drivers on the outside (2-4-6-8) often losing out a lot because there really was only one line through it and if you got pushed a bit wide you’d lose a few more places.

In the Juniors Ikhwan drove great in the Final to take 3rd out of the Asia Max registered drivers with his teammate Hasif following him in 4th after unfortunately getting dropped to 6th place in the pre-final after finishing it in 2nd (10sec penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag). Indonesian driver Rio Haryanto took the win ahead of Calvin Wong. (I hope I remember stuff right, I don’t have the actual results)

    My Final:
In the Seniors I was struggling with getting the kart to power out of corners all weekend and in the Final I think I set only about the 8th fastest laptime but was able to take 2nd place despite dropping to 7th on the start (started 4th). The pole position guy was perhaps a bit too eager in re-taking his lead on the first lap after losing it and was punished by getting tangled up and losing a lot of time.

At this point I was in 5th but was able to get past 2 drivers in one go when the driver in 3rd found no power out of a corner for a second. I then followed the Sri Lankan driver Rikaaz and attempted an outbreaking overtaking move into a hairpin once which didn’t quite work out but after 5 more or so laps of following him I tried it again and was able to pull it off and then had to fight to keep 2nd for the rest of the final.

Ameya Walavalkar form India took 1st place in the Final while the Championship leader finished it in 4th and his pre-final win was enough to keep him well ahead in the championship. After my KB mistake I think I’m now in about joint-2nd or maybe 3rd just a point or two from second, but about 15 points from Ryan.

Getting 2nd after going into the race expecting a 4th or 5th was great, although a win would’ve tasted even better. In Indonesia which is just 2-and-a-bit weeks away the plan is to have the Kart performing from the get-go and give Ryan and the other Indonesians a good race at their track. 😀

Edit again…. looks we will going after all. 😀 😎 😀

I got my AAM Road Racing licence made on the spot (AAM was fast) today because I was expecting to race at the MSS… but I’m happy to be going to India. 🙂

My father has two bikes he has raced in on the MSS – Kawasaki KIPS 150cc… and a Kawasaki SuperSport bike… I was going to race the KIPS this weekend :).

There were 6 or 7 karts either packed up or being packed up for India at Swiss Hutless today. I didn’t ask who all the karts were for though.

Edit: Oh crap… now it looks like nobody from Swiss Hutless will be going… some issues with the flight tickets… now I’m going to rush to get a bike licence to do the MSS bike race this weekend! 🙁

Wicked I’m going to India as well. For a while I thought I’d be stuck in Malaysia and would’ve taken part in an MSS bike race instead but just got the go-ahead to be able to make my way to the races. This time the battery connections will be soldered and taped and super glued and zip-tied together.

Like I said, many of My-Karters can do well in the RMC and you are one of them. I have told Naza, if Tarmizi is not racing than he should. There are only a few drivers in the vateran class and the fastest would probably be Mr. King. Naza is not any slower.
I’ve been trying to get this through to my-karters as well… many in the my-kart grid can slot right into the mid-pack at their first meeting and then quickly move up the field. Get a kart and start racing!

    So Desmond, next year ok?
No.. this year if possible! Otherwise you spend the first few races learning and come end of the year when you just miss out on 1st/2nd/3rd in the championship you would’ve wished you had done a few rounds the year before. 🙂 It’s a really good idea to take part in the last few races of a year and you’ll be real ready then for the new season. Usually last few rounds have a few less drivers as well so it’s less hectic on-track so good to learn.

If I am not mistaken suit homologation is valid for 5 years which means CIK 2001/18 expired in 2006 (can anyone confirm this?). Maybe that’s why it is no longer listed with CIK? Does MORAC still make suits?
Nah the 2001/18 is simply a homologation number… there should also be the duration of the homologation on the tag. Something like 11/08/2001 – 10/08/2005 for example.
The homologation number 2001/18 corresponds to a “CARMINATI DESIGN”, “FORZA” model suit made in Italy. The homologation date on the tag should read: “31/01/2001 – 31/01/2006.”

It is possible that Morac bought the suits from the manufacturer and branded them.

Now the latest homologated suit has the homologation number 2001/94, homologated in 2007… and it’s homologation period is from 11/04/2007 – 10/04/2012

The last sim I’ve been playing a lot is Live for Speed (www.liveforspeed.net).

Prompted by this thread I paid up for rFactor and have been trying out many different mods. Had a really difficult time first getting the force feedback anywhere near ok.. now it’s at least driveable, but I don’t quite feel as much “in the car” as in LFS.

Otherwise so far the Clio mod was cool and I tried some online racing with it. The Formula BMW mod was really really cool, at Sepang(GP4) I was able to get to very realistic Formula BMW times (2:13), and it just feel very much like driving the Formula BMW – braking points are very similar and power delivery very similar as well, and the default setup had me changing gears in almost exactly the same places as in real life.

Now downloading the ICA kart mod and will download the Kart Racer mod once the download limit on rfactorcentral is lifted.

So far the braking feels a bit weird in all cars, can’t quite get a feel for it like in LFS, and the oversteer correction seems a lot more realistic in LFS as well – I can feel the oversteer a lot better. In rfactor I haven’t been able to get to making small corrections through corners – it’s always either saving quite a big slide or driving on rails.

rFactor has the huge plus of real tracks and cars. The GP4 Sepang is really really good, the other version is crap in comparison with elevation changes wrong in many places.

I’m off to race a bit more.

Here’s the revised schedule. Note that the later scheduled events might take place a bit earlier – if they decide to tighten up the schedule. But I’d say that around about 1pm on the Sunday should be good to still catch a bunch of racing action – the earlier you get there the more racing you’ll see :).

Btw… bombe994 aka Izrul will be my no.1 mechanic!

Btw no.2 – I’ve had a bunch of KartingMalaysia.com bumper and visor stickers made so anyone that wants one to put on their helmet/car/kart/bike/bum can get one from me at Sepang.

For those interested… I’m doing a clearance on all my SA2000 Bell helmets – going for RM1300(sport 3), and RM1600(K1 Sport SV), and RM3000(KF1 Ultra).

Delayed by few minutes means cheaper slot to reduce the cost. Its normal for satelite company to buy 30sec-5mins delayed.
Then for the Astro programming every single “live” event I’ve checked does this. For example the World Cup matches were delayed by a good 30 seconds+. I don’t see why spend all the money to buy all the games and dedicate several channels and then not show them live.

Yeah even I have to turn up the volume when Kimi speaks – his voice in Finnish is a bit odd as well. Wait for Kovalainen to get into the press conference – he’ll be very much unlike Kimi.
the starsport telecast is a bit delayed for some reason …
And has been for at least a decade. I don’t know the reason but I think all live shows on satellite channels (not local free-to-air) are delayed by a few minutes – maybe to do with being able to censor out unwanted material if need be?

Nothing against the man.. he just seems to have a narrower than average peripheral vision during F1 races. 🙂
