yeah… let’s see if with rookies hamilton & kubica qualifying so high up the grid will translate into some ‘interesting’ 1st corner moments…!
Neither are exactly inexperienced at racing wheel-to-wheel at the front (particularly Hamilton) so I’m not expecting them to cause trouble. If anyone is to cause ‘interesting’ moments I’d put my money on Sato or Ralf. 🙂

nah kimi breaking cars is bollocks… he had engines exploding that hadn’t even done 1 fast lap. F1 cars are supposed to be built to last a race distance driven at 100%. Rear wings flying off and steering wheels coming off aren’t the result of a driver pushing too hard. The Mclaren was breaking when Mika was driving it, it was breaking when Coulthard was driving it… Kimi didn’t make the car suddenly fall apart.

other than the my-KART.org text overlapping with the my-kart.org logo it’s much better imo.

Alright so the numbers are definitely there to make this happen. I’ll get more details across by Thursday with a date and a run-down of what the program will consist of.

I drove a Junior Rotax kart yesterday in Sintok so now I have an idea of how the engine runs :).

    Cool more interested karters…
I’ll work on the program a bit more and see what I come up with, and I’ll also find out about the costs that are involved. Those that are interested keep adding names to the list – it’s unlikely that one date will suit anyone so 10+ names is not a problem.

    OT:
Btw….. I won’t start a new thread for this but related to “coaching”… is anyone interested in being my mechanic for the first Rotax round? It’s a great way to find out what goes on during a race weekend and I can explain everything that we do so you’ll learn a lot about kart setup and working on a kart. Your job would mainly be to lift the kart on/off the stand and the scales + take notes during the weekend + time competitors with a stopwatch etc. I could probably manage by myself but wouldn’t mind some help :). So all that is required is someone big enough to lift a kart a few times and won’t get pissed off at having nothing to do at times. 🙂

I’m on a tight budget so can’t pay anything but I’ll get your makan+minum and we’ll see if we can travel to/from the track together as well so you don’t have to spend any $$$$.

send me an email: mikko@shootmoto.com if you’re interested. The race is 24+25th this month at Sepang.

Nice to see that there’s a fair bit of interest :).

If it is the last weekend of April (28/29 April 07), then I could attend.

That weekend probably works good for me too. Date is not confirmed yet so input on that is great.
dass im glad ure joining man..this will improve your driving skill im sure…hahaha…i wanna spy u guys!!!
Yeah many are surprised at how much they can improve their driving during just one day. I’ve also coached drivers before and been amazed at how much people can improve from session to session.

Probably going to be a title fight between Kimi and Heikki and then the half-Finn Nico might join in now and then…. wait let me take off my blue and white glasses….

Everything points towards Ferrari being the car to beat on race-pace at the beginning of the season, with qualifying a bit tighter but I don’t think Ferrari will struggle to much to win at least 3/4 first races :). Which driver? … I say Kimi will surprise Massa in the first qualifying session and over the season they will probably be close here and there but Kimi will be more consistent from race to race (I wonder if blue-white contact lenses are still in :)… ).

I’ve got an old cheap Canon 100-300/F5.6 you can use next time I come down to the track if you like, I’m pretty sure it should work on a 400D. :)… has only been used about ~10 time over the past decade :). Still have an old Canon film SLR. 😉
who’s racing FOUR STROKE here? Is that thingy we drive at CK 2 stroke or 3 stroke?
Seems RaycerDiva needs to get her technical details more sorted out :).

Anyone that has been receiving my newsletter will have gotten a bit of vague info on this series – Fazz also met with the people putting it together yesterday. In effect it is very similar to the proposed “Yamaha Cup ala Pan Global style” thing I guess – expect for K1 rather than K2 – and with Rotax Junior engines to keep the maintenance costs down (participants pay closer to RM350/round rather than ~RM500 they would now for K1) – and less variation between engines (engines will often vary at the top revs and power valve operation will vary-which you don’t have with juniors).

There’s also talk of maybe starting the series up with a 1-2 day coaching session at Sepang for example. The actual closed championship races could be tried to integrate into the My-Kart events to run as a K1 category but on separate dates at the Sepang track. The main idea is to have a “K1” category but with equal performance karts for everyone – and with more prizes for top finishers than mentioned in the original post here.

Everything I posted here is not confirmed/final and just ideas that were flying around. I’ll try to personally get guys here more info by Tuesday so that everyone knows what this is all about.

It’s is awesome that my-kart has drawn so many more drivers in Malaysia to become active in Karting and it shows with the interest from Swiss Hutless and Lim/Yamaha. Imo my-kart has probably more than doubled the amount of “active” karters in the country. My hope is of course that many will move into AAM sanctioned racing – and it looks like it is already happening with a few drivers I met yesterday looking at racing in RMC/Rok this year!

Many of the drivers I looked at in all categories yesterday would be more than ready to get their own kart and start racing in a Malaysian National Series, and perform really well! There’s no reason to feel intimidated and scared about racing with the “big boys” – most my-kart guys are already good enough to start racing in AAM events. Anyone that is looking at racing do feel free to get in touch with me to ask me about anything (budgets, tips on doing a championship on little $$$, what the racing is like etc. etc.), especially if you’re a dad and wondering if your 8-12 year old son/daughter might be able to start racing! mikko@shootmoto.com, send a message here.. call me 012-2608102… find me at a track….

Oh and if you’re 32 years old or above and feel you’ve got what it takes… start racing Rotax! There’s a separate “masters” category in which you race in the same heats with the seniors(15+), but you score points in your own championship as well. The champion in Malaysia gets a trip to the UAE (Dubai/Al Ain) this year to race against drivers from all over the world… and there has been almost ZERO competition in this category for the past few years in Malaysia – if you really go for it you could be in racing in the UAE at the end of this year… act fast though ’cause the first race is at the end of this month – you can even use my old kart for the first round for free if you don’t have time to get yourself one!

I’m not selling karts/engines or anything else (well ok helmets)… I just want to see more drivers taking part in local races :).

Thanks guys… I didn’t go track-side for long because forgot my sunscreen and the sun was scorching hot – still got a bit burnt! btw… I know I saw a few other photographers that took pics track-side, who were they – and more importantly where are their shots? 🙂
nice picture there mikko …
btw what lens u were using earlier? i can hardly identify it …
Was using my 70-200mm/F2.8 VR on a D70. Travelled light and left my 300mm/F2.8 at home and D200 at Nikon service center ;). You into photography as well?

I might just get myself a subscription to Vroom at 10%, a bit too much hassle to get just an extra 5%.. unfortunately the shipping is a large part of the cost so can’t get it much cheaper… http://www.karting1.co.uk has a 10% off order form.

I’ve subscribed to “Karting Magazine” http://www.kartingmagazine.com, and backdated by sub to the January issue. Some of the tech articles they have in there are really awesome – I’ve got 3 issues so far and went ahead and ordered 6 back issues that have tech articles written by the same guy in them. Check kartingmalaysia.com tomorrow/thursday for a review and some sample pages in pdf form from the magazine. Their online ordering is really good too, and the mag doesn’t take long to come into Malaysia.

So Jules you interested if we get a good deal? I’ll check with Kart1 to see what they can offer.

Yeah I remember reading the magazine some years ago and the english was way off.. but they’ve improved it a lot since then and while you can still distinguish the translated articles from the ones originally written in English all the articles are now fully understandable 🙂

Vroom hired me to do photography + the article for the Macau event for their January issue so I’ve already been in contact with them. The small discount (15%) for groups (3+) isn’t really worth it because they all go to the same address… there are ways to get 10% off already as individual subscriptions. I’m definitely subscribing myself just checking if there are others that are interested.

I’ll never buy the Australian “Kart Magazine”, they pretty much just copy and steal content from elsewhere.

What are you going to be using the suit for? Karting? If so then forget about the OMP Superstar – it’s a proban suit and it’s not even FIA approved for circuit racing – so it’s not approved for karting or car racing, and it’s not designed for karting but more for mechanics/crew.
