ParticipantMention GTI in Malaysia and most people will be referring to the Satria GTI. No doubt the Satria GTI has developed a cult following of its own here as well as the markets it was exported to, and it is a good car in its own right.
But cars like the Satria GTI, the Honda Civic Type R and all the hot hatches owe it all to the grand daddy of hot hatches, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The Golf GTI celebrates it’s 30th Anniversay this year having first been seen by the world in 1976, and to date there are 4 reincarnations of the Mk1 GTI. The latest GTI, the Mark 5 has recaptured the imagination of motoring public. Although bigger and some 700kg heavier than the Mark 1, the modern suspension design coupled with the 2.0 turbo engine/DSG gearbox combo has propelled the GTI to a whole new level.
To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this motoring icon, VW enthusiasts gathered on a sunny morning on Saturday 11 November 2006 to do what the GTI do best – tackling the back roads.
Around 20 VW cars, ranging from the Mark 1 GTI to the latest Mark 5 GTI amongst the Corrado, Mk1 Cabriolet, Vento, Passat and Scirocco took to the back roads with gusto. Here are some pictures to share from this event.

ParticipantYes he can!!!!!
Even though he won it because Gronholm failed to finish in the top 4 in Australia, I am sure he would have won it outright when he return after injury. Now, all eyes on Rossi in NZ!

ParticipantI think Schumi should :
1. Enter Eurovision song contest
2. Enter German Idol (if there is one)
3. Play football for the local club at Karpen
4. Be a taxi driver………..at Maranello, like that Sabine Schimdt lady at Nurburgring
5. Come join MyKart, our buayas will show him a thing or 2 about karting :pOSFlanker
ParticipantThe BTCC race promoter/organiser back then, Alan Gow, went out of his way to make the BTCC entertaining. Sometimes he will use the slightest excuse to bring out the safety car to bunch up the cars so that they car race to the finish line in the last 3-4 laps.
Winklehock is also a character to watch, not to mention the sight of those big Volvo wagons on track!
Granted the current WTCC is nothing like the old BTCC, but it’s still damn better than F1 anyday. I love the WTCC at Macau. The BMW’s seem to reign supreme there.

Participant
………….About going to Shah Alam, my Dad has stopped me from going back to Shah Alam. The reasons are it is not safe for me to be there……….
Shah Alam not safe? Then why is it homologated for international races? If you mean Shah Alam city, then you are right. The stadium area there are full of angry Selangor football fans………
……. And, who is going to pay for the damages if I damage any of the kart since I am from average family? I can’t afford to pay for the damages………
Alvin, regardless of where you go to do karting you also have to pay for the damages. It’s written in the indemnity form you sign. If you can’t afford to pay, then don’t do karting otherwise you will never be competitive.
With this sort of attitude, I think most people have given up on trying to help you. Sadly, your so called “dream” has not given you the determination to overcome the difficulties you are facing, like travelling to 300km to Shah Alam. Did you know Maria Sharapova went to the US at 9 years old to enrol in the tennis academy? Her dad only had USD400 left in his pockets when they got there.
Have you heard of the story of “Huo Yuen Jia” (as per the movie “Fearless” starring Jet Li)? His father forbid him to learn kong fu, yet he secretly train and learn kong fu. His legacy is the “jing wu” martial art school in over 50 countries, and he is revered as one of the best exponent of kung fu ever.
All these nonsense about Shah Alam not safe & no money to pay for damages just seem like lame excuses to me. Do you want it bad enough? I don’t think so.

Participant
Hi guys need some help here as where i can find a good place in KL (do not include pertama complex) to custom design, spray and airbrush my own helmet?
Preferrable with address and location. Would be appreciate if someone could provide details and info about it. Thank you.
I am also looking for such a place. Went to this shop in Sunway which faces Sunway College, behind N1 Racing. Think the name is BK Yap. Was quoted RM300-RM600, depending on design.
Will try to fish out the namecard, but it’s not hard to find. Go there to drop off your helmet, and walk to a nearby cafe where a lot of collegians hang out…….

You dun need brakes at the last turn. :))
The idea is to maintain speed.
Just before the corner, lift off trottle 50% and slightly pitch the tail so you aim at the exit apex. once the kart is pointing into direction, slam it!
All this apply halfway thru the last corner.
Once u get this right, there’s no need to complain about your kart no power…
I mean the main straight (is there a back straight?), turn 1. Need big balls to brake late for turn 1.
For the last turn, I am slow there coz I don’t lift off and just drift through the whole corner :p Slow, but fun………..
OSFlanker
ParticipantFazz, sounds like you drive like a certain Mr Villeneuve!
Alvin, when I first started karting, I also used to be like you, wanting to know about braking points, apex etc. Then I found out it’s not really useful to me to know from other people. You just gotta go out there and find out for yourself coz you need to identify markers which is logical to you. Trust me, at Sepang track down the back straights, it takes a lot of balls to brake late and it’s not something which you can do even if someone do tell you to brake late!
