Naza – From just watching videos and even F1 races on the TV, when most the wheels touched, the cars then to bounce off or goes off the ground. Why is that? Both car’s tyre are turning in the same direction, but still..
Actually one tyre is pushing down(front part of the tyre rotation) & the other’s pushing up(back part of the tyre rotation), so that’s why it’s automatic lauching. Hope that clears it up. 😉 If not, ask me again when we meet, easier to show with hand movements 😀

maybe you guys can camp outside the circuit.. so you wont be late
If you do so, pls remember to bring your waterproof sleeping bags, monsoon rated tents and a change of clothings. It’s forecasted to have an unbelievable heavy rain on Friday evening into Saturday morning. 😀
looking at that video.. was there any way of saving it so that it dont flip…? many just ending having a spin..
Not too sure(coz can’t really see properly from the video), but when my back got lifted up, i turned my wheels to the wheels that were still on the ground. Anyhow, I thank God, nothing happened 😀 Shoke hands with the other driver too 😀

About attire, that’s why now I shall at least race with long sleeves and jeans. Can never be too safe 😉

Can I add my own weights 😀 I’m right at the end of K45 category. I’m gonna get smoked coming out of those corners 🙁

OIC….. Just to clarify – no overtaking allowed till you pass the start/finish line or when green flag is waved? Brake testing allowed on the rolling start?

Is there any place where I can go and read about the dos and donts or the ‘understanding’ of clean racing by my-kart?

Thats what happened when wheels come in contact. Believe me my-karters have over the years seen wheel contacts with serious consequences. Therefore, please DISCIPLINE yourself to avoid wheel to wheel contact at all cost[b]. Wheel to wheel racing is great fun but its done with a lot of trust and full readiness to avoid contact….especially when my-karters are your friends (some has regarded it a brotherhood bond over the years).
Yup, I saw the video of K3 in March. So, that’s FAZZ… Quick to the scene to check if the karter’s alright. After watching that, I’m thinkin how silly have I been, karting in sleeveless tshirts and I quickly went to check out all the necessary protective clothings…. Suddenly to spend RM1k out of the blue was shocking to me :shy: Anyhow, I should be able to organise that by this Sunday.

2ndly, can someone pls explain the (understood) dos and donts? Next time, I’m gonna give more space and also do my best to avoid actual wheel banging. I think my life/health’s worth more than my ego 😉
Yup, its more of CK’s way of minimising damage to their karts.
Hehe…. Must be after watching me go over the curbs one too many times 😀 Anyhow, I think it’s safer too. Wont send karts flying off the ground.
1:14 – 1:15 is certainly nothing to be sneezed at. I had to pull out all the stops to get close to you last Sunday. Jazeman is a 15 year old lad who started karting when he was 8 or maybe younger. He is now racing in Formula BMW Asia under Team Meritus. Check him out at http://www.afos.com[/i%5D%5B/quote%5D
I don’t think I was close to 1:15 even on Sunday….. 1st time in over a year and I was practicing a few new things I learnt/read from the web 😀

OIC 15yr old definately means he’s not above 60kgs 😉 Unless he’s overweight, but then again, he wont fit in the kart seats :D. Wah, we’ve got open wheel drivers racing in my-kart events…. That’s great, hope I notice who’s Jazeman and I can keep up with him…. Definately will be able to improve my time then.
Driver weight is quite critical in sanctioned organised kart races. There are minimum weight requirenments below which your win will be disqualified.

Yup, unfortunately MAAC’s event doesn’t have min weight requirements. Although I’ve sent an email to Adrian(one of the organisers) to ask him to incorporate that into this year’s event to level the playing field…. Not sure if they’ll do it. Btw, how will CK add these weight ballast on their karts & do they have the necessary tools for that?
…chill la bro!….sooner or later you will be… 🙂

If by buaya(i used to play golf and the golfers would understand this term) you mean faking that you’re slow wen you are actually fast…. Then it’s not possible anymore, coz some of you have seen me kart and I’ve leaked out my best avg times 😀 Unless buaya means something else, like I snap at ppl 😛
so you came all the way down from Ipoh just to have chicken wings with us on Sunday? RESPECT DUDE.. TOTALLY RESPECT

Ipoh Mali eh?….now thats a real cool karter in the making!…..welcome aboard bro!
Just to clear things up….. Haha, no I’m not AlvinKhorOnFire coming all da way from Perak just for karting. I work in Ipoh, but I’m mostly back in KL/PJ over the weekend. But u all can keep respecting me, I don’t mind 😀
i read anarticles from a website saying that most of the racers in any category visualize their runs too.. because they cant just go onto the track to have practise as they like.. so visualize is good practise too! since both of us are the newbies.. we need that heaps..
I have never done it CCW, so it’s gonna take alot of imagination to visualize it. However, I did my best this early morning when I woke up about 3am and had problems going back to sleep… I had problem visualizing the curbs going the other way….

For the seasoned karters, using the 80ccs, which corners do we need to brake? Is the start/finishing line still the same? When and where does the pace kart pulls off the track? If it’s the pit entrance(going CCW), then there’s quite alot of corner before the original start finishing line. How will the leading karts keep a steady pace?

    Edwyn,

GO enjoy yourself tonite(somehow this could be misunderstood ;)) and ur redang trip. I’m based in Ipoh, so I do not have the luxury of the rest to go karting anyday 🙁 I’ll just have to use my visualization to prepare myself…. ;(

If i end up upside down, i dont think I can do the 125s 😉 😀

Just saw that scary video…. Same thing happened to me on the last lap yesterday….. Lesson learnt after watchin da vid, give way and there’s alwiz another corner to overtake….
dude,

how can you be not buayaing when you are giving me so many new tips about the track? 😕
Erm, where did I give you any tips? I was listening all the time when anyone was talking 😉

OMG…. It’s gonna be run CCW? I’m in deep crap now, I’ve never done it CCW. Will need to visualize going backwards….. 1st qualifying will be used for practice. 2nd one I hope to do better and 3rd I hope to have at least found a good rythem that I can build on….

Now that it’s CCW, no brakes necessary? 😀 Need tips n more tips!

There seem to be quite a few my-karters keen on wanting to experience what its like to bang around the track on a 125 cc kart. I conveyed this to CK’s boss with the intention to find out whether a 125cc kart can be rented for a special price for my-kart’s sake. His special offer is as follows:

CRG Road rebel Racing kart + PRD 125cc Air cooled @ RM 70.00 for 10mins.

This is a one off offer and can be ready for rent immediately after My-kart Round 8 race on 19th August next week. Interested?….list your name below:

    1. Iski (confirm)
    2. Edwyn (Did you asked just now?)
    3. Ruben (50-50: depends on how my 1st my-kart race goes)
    4.

I think I get the idea why it’s called chicken wing…. Someone(who? i can’t remember, havent’ registered the helmet colouring scheme) was flappin his/her wings on the straight as I was catching up….. Next question is WHY flap? Looked kinda funny 😀 Was tempted to do the chicken wing flaps too, but afraid that it might mean something which I didnt mean to say(such as the finger or other hand gestures 😉

It was great meeting up with so many ppl and I’m sure I’ll meet up with many more this Sunday. Now I’ve gotta try to put the names together with the nicks and the helmets and the faces. This is so confusing…. Thanks for all the 20mins of fun on the track…. In all honesty, it didnt feel like 20min. It was alot of good fun. 🙂

On the last lap, I’m not sure if I bumped wheels with someone from my-Kart or was someone else and then got lifted onto his kart(right after the wet patch after the esses). If it was anyone here, I’m sorry I held my line 😉

So, do tell me what are the dos and don’ts of wheel to wheel karting? I just follow what’s allowed/what i see on F1…. Of course none of the Schumi like moves on Damon or Jacq 😉 Thank God I didnt bump into 666 🙂

FYI, it’s been a year or so since I last karted on Shah Alam. So i did notice a few things missing. Plenty of curbs have been taken off – was this for safety sake or so that the public karters will stop destroying the underbody of the karts as they ride the curbs ;)?

Those that I can remember right now, the corner after the straight which used to be the start/finish or pit exit, the middle corner of the esses, i think the tight hair-pin corner and the exit of the corner right infront of the pits. Generally i feel that the grip levels are quite acceptable to run that wide, provided u don’t run on the old curbs with your wheels. Is it faster to run the normal line(ie not pass the ‘old’ curbs) or run wider where it’s necessary?

Who’s Jazeman? Was he there yesterday? I’ll be sure to speak to him this coming Sunday. 1:14-1:15s quick? I seriously thought I was slow when I saw the times of 1:10-1:11….. Do you think loosing 10kgs will help me get my times there? From memory there’s no weight penalty for being light and i remember they were smaller n thinner frames.

Naza, I’m not buaya….. Still learning…. I’m very sure I can improve with better competition, thanks again for setting up my-kart, fantastic idea….. So far, I hardly have good competition to practice/race with except on the actualy races itself(then it’s too late).

    Mark,

My tip…. Loose 10kgs 😉 I’ll be on my diet to get mine down to 55kg on 1st Sept. Damn, I forgot, I still have to have my helmet weight included.

Done. See everyone there….. Seems like a very big group(based on memory, ~50 in both K2 & K3 – do they have THAT many karts?).

I’ll be going to learn from everyone…. Yusnee(sorry, I dont know his mykart nick) has been inviting me so many times, but due to other commitments I’ve never been able to join in till now. Please offer your advice/tips on improving.

I average around 1:14-1:15. I need to cut it down to 1:10-1:11. What’s the norm for 80cc?
