SK – thanks for the feedback.

I think there are 2 different considerations here:

    1) To run normal K3 race with one group only – ie up to 34 karts, instead of breaking up into K3-A, and K3-B.
Pro’s – This means we essentiall run 2 groups, K1/K2 combine, and K3, and in effect this means a total of 6 races (2 heats + finals, for each group). Compare that to previous, where we had 6 groups x 3 = 18 races to complete -> we cut down on 12 outings!

Con’s- Remember, that K3 is our entry level race, and will include drivers who have never participated in a race before. Hence, repeating my view above, I think that putting them in a big field of 30+ karts is a safety risk…OK for experienced my-Karters, but a risk for newbies.

    2) To run the “34-kart K3 race” as a separate feature race:
As mentioned by Fazz in a separate post (or was it on Facebook?), since we had so much fun, this may spin off a separate series, perhaps run once every quarter/2 months? – purely for fun!
And I think SK Wong’s posting was referring to this idea…how to run the event to ensure fairness, safety, who should participate, etc?..everyone? K1/K2 & experience K3 only? etc?…

The immediate question to answer is (1) – do we run the regular K3 in a single group, or broken into smaller groups as before? – my vote is to split to small groups as before..and we need to decide this before the next race on 17th Jan…

Glad that everyone had fun, and the photos of the race looked great (photos on Facebook).

However, the main reason for doing this was to evaluate the feasibility of having this format for all future K3 races, which will include a sizeable number of newbies.

    In my view;

    – Newbies will be overwhelmed by the sheer number of karts in formation – if they stall, are not sure what to do..then the formation lap and running start will be delayed
    – The first corner rush is a huge risk – of course we did well on Sat but this was with a field of experienced karters

In my view – stick to 15 karts per K3 round….safety first over profits or efficiency…
how come only kids…. ;(
These kids have potential to be our future motorsports champs in 5-10 yrs time.

If this is done right, a 10 yr old kid now, can get the right exposure and training to compete in National level, then international level karting in his teens, then be eligible for single seater Formula Racing in his late teens/early 20s, and potentially a hot favourtie F1 driver by the time he’s mid 20s…

If you are in your 20’s now, you can still kart and move up and do National/International karting….but Formula Racing at the the top end will be limited, so best to move into Car racing, MME, etc…

Those in your late 20’s/early 30’s….go make some kids…!

And those about to hit 40 like Fazz….send your kids to this programme!! 😎

John – thanks for putting this up.

To my-KARTers, pls remember to show your my-KART membership cards when asking for discounts.

Also had a look at John’s website – nice, simple and informative. For those who don’t know, John is a colleague of mine and Fazlur at Shell, and helped us tremendously in the set up of the racing format that you all enjoy today!

John and his cronies from Shell Cyberjaya would also dominate the the Shell karting club that I was the convenor for, so much so that I was somewhat glad 😛 when they decided to split Damansara and Cyberjaya clubs…more points for me!!…but unfortunately the Cyberjaya club grew while the Damansara one died a natural death ;(

Terence Chap, featured driver in John’s team, is noteworthy…always one our races…his style and demeanour really reminds me of Danny Choo….it would be interesting to see these two guys face off on track!…two buayas ngaping each other ! 😎
I would really love to see a karting track near The Curve, IKEA and Ikano area. There are a couple of open lands well suited for a karting track but then again the land would be expensive. Imagine how much the crowd would be and how many potential new ‘addicts’ will come 😉 . I think its a great place to put a track.
Interestingly, when I bought a condo unit near the Curve from Sunway Bhd, the sales mgr mentioned to me that the big piece of land next to Dataran Sunway in Kota Damansara (not too far from Original Kayu where we had the 2008 AGM) was going to be the new location of Sunway Extreme Park, which includes a kart track among other things, and also a petting zoo.

Not sure what happened to the idea, if it is still planning stage, or shelved altogether.

This would be a great location…next to a huge commercial area (one of the largest in the country encompassing Dataran Sunway, The Strand, Giant Hypermarket) and within the Kota Damansara/Tropicana area where many karters including yours truly live..so large buying area to tap…plus it’s very close to Sri KDU and SEGI college….

Anyway, let me check with someone in Sunway on this….

That’s a great idea…I think we have a slowly but surely growing market for this…and why not..a lot of us already hang out together socially anyway..so instead of going to Fazz’s house, we can go to club instead!

For us at my-KART – it may start with getting a small club area, with a view to getting our own “club house” on the premises of CK perhaps?

But going for a full fledged country club would probably mean we need to have that somewhere around Sepang, and in collaboration with other car enthusiast and motorsports clubs/organisers like BMW Club, Alfa, HPC, etc…

Of course, as AJK Makan…I’ll ensure the food’s top class.. 😛

Just to add – TANGERINE MODELS invites any my-KART members who may be present at SEPANG during the MME RACEDAY, to congregate at Angie’s team pits (PIT #28), in order to snap a group photo with the TANGERINE RACE QUEENS…vava vooom!…. 😛

My esteemed cousin, Faris Dr Waris , will be there to organise the whole photoshoot with the girls….I think Angie is sponsored by Bruttal Lingerie so the models may be parading in the official product.. 😉

Yus – can you please organise and lend Faris our my-KART banner – thanks..

PS – I most likely won’t be there…so pls look for Faris…in case you forgot what he looks like..he’s the dodgy looking fella in the green shirt below…

is there any thing we need to bring with us when collecting the card? Also if we haven’t paid yet can we pay you at CK tomorrow?

    Thx Stuart
Memebers who have not yet paid may also do so tomorrow. Apart from that, you just need to turn up. Memebers who I am not familiar with, I may need you to show me some identification (IC or driving licence). Stuart, you are safe, I know you 😛
I’ll be at CK for Eagle Wings and membership fee collection. And for those K1 MEMBERS who HAVE NOT PAID…this is your final warning….the committee are looking at DEDUCTING championship points for every month’s late payment…..you have been warned….

Btw – Mark, why on earth can’t you spell “MEMBER” correctly?? 😕
