Member
Fazz,
Can you please be so kind to fill in Nicolas’s details. Kindly ensure he does not have a AAM license to ensure he meets the amateur ranking, needed by MAM.
I have yet to submit this list to Wai Leong who is at present in Japan.
Thanks.
oer… sorry for the late reply. am offline for the moment. anyway, will see what i can do to get the details for armien nicolas.

Member
My wish is for My-Kart to be recognised by potential sponsors as a talent generating/harnessing pool and we feed into the more official racing programs such as KKS. In return, we get some sponsored events/programs…
Anyhow, I am speaking on my own capacity and the opinions expressed are soley mine, based on my littel years in this sports.
I am sure Fazz can address to you more officially.
i don’t disagree with sifu jules. 😉
except that i understand that MAM and AAM are now working together.
we considered the implications of affiliation with either AAM / MAM. what this means to us and our participants are higher costs in general. additionally, it requires drivers to be licensed – which means going through an accreditation process. this additional costs & requirements could affect my-kart’s mission of popularising grassroots motorsports, by making karting affordable and accessible.
at this juncture, i believe we are not ready. (i) we need to start conditioning drivers to go through an accreditation process – hence, chicken wings; (ii) we need to get some form of commercial recognition in order to fund any additional event costs – hence, organising special once offs and encouraging as wide a participation where possible.
one issue we need to address: the size of our DRIVERS series events is growing quickly which taxes our volunteers as well as takes a lot of time from our participants. this is a good problem to have, but we need to address it: any ideas welcomed.

Memberactually there are two issues here:
1/ mainstream acceptance of the sport – to attract sponsors
2/ personal drive to achieve ambitions
one without the other is no use. actually, the question of ease in one country to another is not as straightforward. it is difficult in malaysia because karting / racing does not have mainstream appeal. but similarly in europe, where it is more acceptable – the competition is lot stiffer: so even if you are good, you may still miss out.
either way, personal drive and sacrifices (including financial) are necessary to achieve these ambitions. i thing we know this. racing is not an easy sport to reach the pinnacle… after all, only 22 drivers (out of tens of thousands) get to race in F1 at any one time. the modern racing driver needs to be the full package. having natural skills isn’t enough… a driver must be technically competent. technical and driving skills is not enough too… a modern racing driver must have good communication and pr skills. all this is not enough too… as a driver needs to be mentally strong as well as physically fit. all this comes from discipline & drive.
as for mainstream appeal… we have to start somewhere. the country is still fairly young in terms of motorsports. so lets’ do our part to make the sport more mainstream. at least that is what my-kart aims to do.

Member
hi Fazz ..
The Class segregation was based on several factors .. whether they’ve participated before and how fast were they in the previous rounds .. these make up the pre-determined group for Class-1 .. then during the practice we assessed which karters were fast and experienced and put them into Class-1 .. the rest fall into Class-2 ..
cool. are you giving championship points? what would happen if drivers gain experience and move up the class?

Memberjules – just found out that the post limitation to CORE is not working. i am not sure how to fix this yet. any help on PHP+mySQL is most grateful.

Membersorry jules – not sure how having a PA would help, but at the moment i am tight on time.
this is a very good development from MAM. certainly i believe my-kart can field a few youngsters. this is quite what the group has been set up for. happy to see more and more kids entering our events. to date we have 3 so far and i know there are more potentials as well.
i think the condition about not having participated in sanctioned events is good, as this opens up to more people who would not have the means to proceed further into serious competition. by this move, it would also be good for my-kart to position itself with MAM as the feeder for pure amateur karters. this is very key for me, as we have always stated that my-kart’s mission is to popularise grassroots motorsports by making racing affordable.
what i would like to know more is what is the programme for the drivers who “graduate” the first year season? with clarity here, i would like to build this into the my-kart roadmap.
