I think your helmet specs & materials must be compliant first. You should check with the pro shops when buying your helmet.

What an odd thing to say.

Anyway, back on topic… the problem with sponsorship in malaysia is there there is little to none. Most of the times, racers will have to beg and scrape for enough money to run a race car. It also helps if you have some good contacts.

The market does not yet understand how motorsport can add any value to a company’s brand or product. In the same breath, the industry has not proven to be a crowd puller.

Fundamentally, not many people get involved in motorsports which is why building the grassroots (eg karting) is so important. Even so, there is no guarantee that the sponsors will come in.

this is a topic that perhaps can go on and on. so i am gonna stop here.
This experienced by my friend but he is a bit lucky though. My friend approached XXX brewery company for sponsorship and he was sponsored RM20,000/- worth of beer.
He has to look for a pub to take all the beer in order to exchange the beer for cash and he was lucky that a high volume pub bought the beer from him.

Some companies don’t have the policy to sponsor you in cash but in kind.
I mean the main straight (is there a back straight?), turn 1. Need big balls to brake late for turn 1.

For the last turn, I am slow there coz I don’t lift off and just drift through the whole corner :p Slow, but fun………..
i once messed up my turn 1 braking points and ended on the sharp kerbs on the exit which cut through the seat. yow!

damn… drifting round the parabolic is fun, but not when you start seeing the tyre barriers on the left heading in your direction at high speed! 🙂
Looks like you all fast karter likes to tail out before the entry. Would that save much time? For me i rather have smooth line and slight understeer on the exit. No wonder im slow. 🙁
not sure whether that is the fastest why round. tail out on entry is a very fine balance: too much tail, then you lose speed correcting & trying to find traction. but the right amount of tail, then you get the right angle to exit the turn.

    smooth is usually better.
What’s his secret ah?

Must curi his secret a bit becos his style of driving could leave most of the drivers 1 lap behind. Must find out!
I found that I tend to brake much later than Huffiz. This affects my cornering balance and revs thru the corner and onto a good exit. You will note that Huffiz has an excellent exit speed, which makes him formidable on a wider kart performance variance.

I, on the other hand am a late braker. This is nothing to shout about, given for me it is easier to know when the kart and I am at the limits. I find it is very difficult for me to brake earlier as I have no reference whether I would be braking too early or at the right point for a good cornering speed. So I am a bit of a on or off type of driver. The problem with late braking is that it is so easy to get it wrong because I tend to be close to the limit… so you would often see me missing my apex when pushing hard. So when I miss apexes, I start going sideways and lose speed. I also will not be able to effectively keep my revs up. I am a bit of a Jacques Villeneuve style of driver. *he he*

Huffiz on the other hand brakes earlier – he taps the brakes to get the kart to the right entry speed and (i think he) brakes a tiny bit more to balance the kart into the corner. Huffiz will tend to take a wider line and minimise speed retardation through the corners. Observe Huffiz and you will find him extremely smooth. Same with the likes of Jules etc.

In the final analysis, my style of driving would be a great benefit to me and my lap times if the kart has excellent brakes (so I can confidently stamp on it) and strong bottom end (so I can overcome the rev loss and speed retardation and get a good exit). So my results are not consistent.

Huffiz & Jules on the other hand, are much more consistent handlers of the kart, not necessarily requiring vice-like brakes nor good bottom end (if competing with the rest of us) – because they maintain good speed and revs through the corner. Hence, their performance tends to be consistently strong no matter what kart they ballot.

I know my driving style is hampering me, but I cannot find that balance through the corners… I need to touch the limit and adjust from there, as opposed to feathering inches away from the limit and maintaining control throughout. I hope this makes sense.

This is no big secret. The real problem is your driving style and feel for the kart. This comes with track time.
I have one question to ask, especially for those regulars at my-kart endurance race. What is the corner line at Sepang kart track? What I mean is braking point, turn-in point, apex point and cover out point. Is any reference points like marshal post for these ABC points? Yes, I understand you all can’t afford to release your tips for fear of losing your winning edge. I hope you can at least show some tips that all experts have already known, but beginners like me don’t know. Thanks.
wow big question. imho, i don’t think it is a question of a winning edge. it is more of having the appropriate driving style. for example, i know how Huffiz drives around sepang kart circuit so quickly… but i just cannot do what he does as my driving style is very different to his. hence, i have to modify how i attack corners compared to him.

the best is really track time. it is a bit difficult to describe in in text form…. although the usual standard advise of trying to minimise steering inputs when taking corners still apply.

but this is just my view.
