Can I suggest the following self checks?

At end of day, if you NOT happy with kart – change the kart. You are ENTITLED to do so provided there is enough spare karts – BEFORE your race starts. If not, speak to Fazz – show him why we need to hold race to change the items. I recommend you be picky in your finals race….earlier is at your own choice.

Dun complain when your kart fails esp if you did not check your ride over.

Guys, hire kart are hire karts – no matter how much you pay, an element of luck is always there.
Jules – you are correct about rental karts. However, some of these basic “fitness” should have been sorted out by the operator. I myself checked the brakes of my #51 kart for my final, but found it lacking. This was done once the kart choices were made. I had to wait a while for the crew to fix it, but they could not do it as it would appear that there was some sort of blockage in the brake line. So I had to change karts.

It is fortunate that most regular my-karters are constantly advised what to check before hand etc (even then…). But what of the casual karter? How would we deal with a brake failure at the end of the long straight?

To me Jules, yes we can do our own checks. But not everybody will be like you and a few of the regulars. We need to work constructively with Citykarting to see how their operational procedures can be improved. I spoke to Uncle that I would like to work together on this.
I believe it is better to have 3 races for K3 with max 11 drivers than having 15 on the track. We had the same problem in Race 2 if I’m not mistaken where I did highlight we should not be having 15 drivers on the track but apparently we did the same mistake again for this race. Hmm… are we learning from the concerns of the drivers? Once bitten twice shy – the impact will be your drivers will run away. So think about it before things gets out of control.
yes we had a difficult experience in round 2. But overlooked it in round 3 thinking that Citykarting had additional karts for the 80cc class. Patrick & Luen were busy chasing Citykarting for additional karts, but alas they could not comply with our initial expectations. By then it was too late.
great dogfights definitely give more satisfaction than driving alone for 7 laps, even though its a good position like 2nd or 3rd. nothing beats the joy of winning obviously :p …bila ni….
Yeah. That’s the real fun in racing. A close & fair dogfight! I had a few of my own in the qualifying initially and also in the final. At one point in the final I had two guys trying to overtake me (left & right!) down to the first turn. I was not going to let that happen! And Naza gave me quite a run – that move round the outside was not something I was going to allow him to pull off! lol

Yeah – frustrating indeed. However, we got to learn from this.
To help Citykarting to improve the kart conditions, we need to provide a checklist of feedback to them to work on. In order for that to happen, we need the help of the karters to fill up the checklist of the kart they raced on after each race.
It is not good if only my-KART is providing the feedback report as City Karting shall develop the form for other rentor to fill up too.
How do we implement this? We need to develop this procedure properly.
IMHO, the most ideal race is to run K3 race with 11 karts max per heat and 8 karts max per heat for K2.
Agreed. However, Citykarting had promised more karts precisely to allow us to run 15 karts in one heat.
The fiasco in the K3 Heat 1 lap chart recording is somehow directly related to the spare karts availability. Some of the karts are practically not in ideal running condition and the karters changed the kart before the race or during the race without informing the marshals somehow confused the lap charter and that resulted in the delay of starting the final race as race positions need to be sorted out slowly.

To avoid such confusion in the future, we will need 1 marshal at the pit to oversee the changing of karts and record the change of kart. The record to be provided to the lap charter at the end of the race.

At the start/finish line, a minimum of 3 marshals shall be available. 1 marshal to record the kart positions on each lap, 1 marshal to read out the kart number to lap charter marshal & 1 marshal to change the lap display + to look out for any distress kart + waving of chequred flag.
Good suggestion. I do not envy the lapcharters’ task here. They were equally confused as karters kept changing karts. But hey we all learn from mistakes!

To all volunteers (you know who you are) – no hard feelings guys! Let’s work together to improve things further.
However, out of the many problems, I thought chains ‘putus’and ‘brakes tak makan’ or sprocket ‘dah habis gigi’ are the three common occurances that can easily be detected and rectified. All of these components are fast running items of wear and tear and more so if they are rented racing karts. What this means was that citykarting did not do sufficient tests or checks on the karts prior to mykart’s raceday. Drive chains (like your car drive belts) should be replaced after so many hours. Sprockets have teeth which can be seen with the eye whether its ok or not. Brakes, my god!, citykarting should have tested it before raceday at the very least.
Indeed. I had two of those problems – first was the last lap failure in Q2 because of worn sprocket. Then I could not use my chosen kart 51 in the final due to worn brakes. Had to change to kart 28 which had a chronic understeer when you turned left.
Yes, I would have given Fazz a better run to the finish in the finals, if kart 27 had some decent brakes …..hehehe!
Had lots of fun racing with you, but I was not going to have you insult me by overtaking me around the outside of the fast right hander. lol
My concern is that, too frequent of these avoidable mechanical failures could lead to more feelings of frustration from members and make them lose interest….hopefully not.

I suggest the Technical Director’s team (who?)to meet up with citykarting on an agreed date to discuss this issue.
I do hope that the experience on Saturday did not turn people off the races.

    forza my-kart!
so rm1000 x 6 races, plus an “ok-ish” rm5k chassis
    so thats like rm11000 for 6 races…

    does that sums it up?
quite right. I have some details after talking to Richard & Aaron Lim. Will post when free-er.

    just like a simple “shout-out” kinda thing….
not sure what you mean by the shootout thing (do you mean the shout box?). If it is a shout box, I think there is a module available, but will have to check. But you can send PMs. Is that what you are looking for?

Jules & kaaz38 – interesting reading the posts. To me, each of you have your own views on the subject – and in actuality it is not far different. As for the 2006 Yamaha series, I think both of you feel that it is a good thing. Only thing you differ is on the reason for the cancellation of the previous PP class. The replies, though have indeed become very personal.

Anyway, I feel that the discussion with a few snippets of views here and there has been educational for me. I for one, am not a person in the know. I only kart for recreation and am far from an expert on the subject… which is why I often seek Jules’ counsel (given his experience) on technical aspects.

As for the Yamaha series, RM950 is not bad. Only thing is you’ve got to BYO chassis… However, I would encourage those younger karters in my-KART to take up the challenge. I know many of you are more than capable of getting more serious. Get a good chassis (how much Jules?) amd pay RM950 per race event and you are set. You will be competing against other amateurs (or senior licence holder karters).

Me? I’d love to, but my priority is to keep building the grassroots and develop my-KART into the foundation of Malaysian motorsport.

Jules / kaaz38 – I am lost what you are debating here. In as far as I am concerned, this series is a good start. I am not sure if I am able to attend this morning due to family commitments… however, for those of you planning to go, please avoid shah alam as this morning rain caused a severe flooding on the federal highway at batu 3 KL bound, and at the interchange between the NKVE and the ELITE highways.
Another Malaysian driver, Julian Yap. Wonder who he is. He’s currently in Formula Palmer Audi.

Not sure either. Quite a number of senior guys in the field. Also one Singaporean.

What is Formula Palmer Audi? This is former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer’s baby, I guess. Not always deemed as a stepping stone series I think.

    Formula Palmer Audi
    The winning concept

Formula Palmer Audi has earned a superb reputation over the past eight seasons for providing the best value in world motorsport. The stunning performance and sensational look of these single seaters make Formula Palmer Audi the most spectacular and professional show on the national racing scene. For the drivers, the 300bhp Audi turbo engines and huge grip from the composite wings and wide tyres make the exhilaration of driving these cars totally unrivalled. Crucially though, it offers a range of powerful benefits to sponsors providing the most cost effective marketing and promotional opportunity ever offered in motor racing.

All the cars are owned and operated by the Formula Palmer Audi team and prepared to an identical exacting standard, leaving the driver free to turn up on race day with his helmet and overalls ready to race. The circuits for the 2006 Championship have been specifically chosen as they are the ones that drivers love to race on and sponsors want to entertain at. The close racing that is a product of all the cars being prepared to an identical standard, means FPA provides some of the most spectacular racing on circuit and the huge presence of the 22 car team makes it the most professional looking show in the paddock.

Data acquisition and analysis is provided with a team of data engineers available at every race weekend to assist drivers in honing the car and their skills to the demands of the particular circuit. Data comparison with the fastest driver of the session, ensures all drivers have an opportunity to improve their ability during the weekend. With a unique private test facility at Bedford Autodrome, the FPA HQ, there is ample opportunity for testing the car and developing as a driver. FPA’s team of driver coaches, data engineers and technicians will help drivers get the best from both themselves and the machinery. An RAC MSA National A licence or equivalent is all that is required to enter. For drivers new to the sport the FPA team can even help secure the necessary competition licence or help overseas licensed drivers convert to the appropriate UK or international licence.

Designed for drivers of all ages with experience in club racing, the FPA series is ideal for those with a hectic schedule and for whom time is at a premium. We value the achievements of drivers from all backgrounds and therefore there are various additional awards presented at each event to recognise this.

For drivers looking to further their career in motorsport, FPA provides a unique platform to demonstrate their talents on a level playing field. Amongst the many successful ex FPA drivers are Champ Car ace Justin Wilson, Porsche Super up champion, Damien Faulkner, MacLaren test driver and DTM Champion, Gary Paffet, A1 Grand Prix driver, Robbie Kerr and World and European Touring Car champion, Andy Priaulx. More recently 2004 and 2005 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year nominees Jonathan Kennard and Joe Tandy have both been propelled into the spotlight by winning the FPA championship.
