Nice to meet you too. Infact it is nice to meet another fellow Malaysian there.

Rumour was saying that it might be held at Dubai. I think it is probably because of the funding and that all the karts will be sold off before the meet just like the karts for the 2007 world final. They were all taken before the event even started.

We have to wait for the announcement. Anyway captain we drove to Dubai Via Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi the city you lived in is indeed a nice city. They were hosting the F1 Powerboat. Saw the sheikh palace. It’s really huge & beautiful. Didn’t see the Silver Audi A8 car though…

    1. Will AAM recognise MAM or will they recognise each other? As we knew that only AAM is the sole entity to issue competition license for motorsports in the country recognised by the international sporting body.

    2. If they can work together, how is the implementation like. AAM issue license and MAM promote the events or how? As we can see now MAM also issue license which I personally think that it is not recognise by AAM.

If I am not mistaken sometime back there was a similar situation lead by the government and have failed because AAM & them cannot sit together. If I am not mistaken it was because of an individual (mat salleh) who was ambitious running it for the government. Government being government have political motive and AAM as the sole entity will never let their authority taken away.

Instead of meeting MAM why don’t you guys meet AAM 1st and find out what they have got to say and then meet up with MAM. My reason to this is simply because the karting sports is very much controlled by AAM. It is apparent in MAM web site at this moment they are only organising or promoting events like scooter & mini bikes races and also 4×4 challenges.

    my 2 cents

As what he has told me, he has learned a lot, such as you need to do late braking and to step on the accelerator very much earlier and also to understand the kart behaviour on such condition which is very important. you can easily confuse yourselves with understeer and oversteer. That was the argument he had with his mechanic in the world finals. It turn out to be he was wrong and the mechanic was right. Hence they couldn’t find the perfect set-up for the heats with the standard chassis. Nevertheless he was the fastest among the malaysian juniors in one of the warm-up outing. He thought he can better that by changing the set-up. His best time was 59.35 (if I m not mistaken) which is 2 or 3/10th slower than Calvin Wong. But in the world finals 3/10th is a huge gap as you easily have 16 other karters in between.

Experience and exposure do play an important role to get the perfect set-up. I believe he has learned and hope he will improve from there.

Ikhwan will be leaving for Macau on Tuesday 11/12/2007 and register on 12/12/2007 and hopefully he got to do a day practice.

The event starts from Thursday with scruitineering and non qualifying practices. Log-in to http://www.asiankarting.com/home.aspx for details.

Hope to see you there timmsm…

Was not able to give updates as Internet Services is difficult.

Anyway, the best result achieved by a Malaysian during the world final was Calvin Wong in the junior qualifying for the final race and finished 9th. Calvin Wong is the most experience Malaysian driver as he have raced in the Langkawi World Finals and also in Europe. Ikhwan being a rookie now understand what it takes to drive on a track with so much grip and highly competitive environment. Without the rubbers on the track Ikhwan managed to get 15th and 17th fastest in his group respectively in the non qualifying practice. In the warm up before the qualifying heat he was the fastest among the Junior drivers from Malaysia.

With the changing track condition I think he was a little confused with the set-up. Argued couple of times with the mechanics trying to explain what he was going through. It seems it’s difficult for him to tell whether it’s understeer or oversteer. He qualified 24 or 25th in his group of 36 drivers and finished 25th in 1st qualifying heats. 2nd qualifying heat he dove aggressively and was warned with a black and white flag and thought he saw a black flag and retired. On the 3rd qualifying heats he crashed out 2 laps before the end ad finished last. But it was indeed a good event for him to gain some experience.

Just imagine 1/10th seconds you see 5-6karts in between. What more if it’s 1 seconds, you would probably see everyone is in front of you If you talk about a close fight you would be able to see them there. This is my 1st time and i just can’t believe it. One of the Malaysian entries in the Junior has a kart destroyed. He paid 955 Euros for it. I think you guys can imagine what’s the race like.

Next he will be participating in AKOC in Macau next week and end the season. I hope he will apply what he has learned from the world finals there as the track condition maybe similar.

I met Razmyn on Saturday with his new camera. Razmyn I am sorry, I am not sure whether Mikko passed you the T-Shirt.

Phew…. he already had that experience in Sentul Indonesia recently. I was told he temporarily lost his memory. the local insurance would classify it as “total loss” when he hit one of the wall at the track.

Yeah… I saw the eager kid doings clearly from the the stand at T1. He just don’t like Mikko to be infront of him and does what he can to distract Mikko. It was a Toni Kart, Kart # 5 if I am not mistaken.

The final races of the Cadet, Junior, Senior and Master/vateran were wet races.

In the Junior final, Ikhwan finished podium. He finished 3rd but was promoted to 2nd when Senna an Indonesian driver was DQ for some irregularities on his carburettor floats.

In the Junior Final, Ikhwan suffered the same fate as in Surabaya when he was hit from the back by another driver. He was holding 2nd position before the incident. The race was stopped at about the 13th lap as rain was pouring down. Everybody was on slick at the start of the race. Since the race has not reached 75% of the full distance, the race was restarted to complete the 20 laps race and Ikhwan was 7th at the start. Ikhwan managed to overtake some drivers and finished 4th in the pre-final. Hasif finished 5th

The final was a wet race. After the green light, OOi fei Hong was overtook by Senna after the 3rd turn. While Ikhwan kept his 4th place behind Bryan Mehta. After couple of laps, the gap between Bryan and Ikhwan gets bigger. However toward 1/3 of the race distance Ikhwan caught up and at about lap 10 he overtook Bryan and finished the race in 3rd position 1.1 sec ahead of Bryan.

Ooi Fei Hong overtook Senna couple of laps earlier.

    The podium finisher were:-

    1. Ooi Fei Hong (Tony Kart)
    2. Mohd Afiq Ikhwan (Swiss Hutless)
    3. Bryan Mehta (Birel)
    4. Mohd Hasif Azmi (Swiss Hutless0
    5. Ryan Ritchie (Tony Kart)

In the senior, Mikko Nassi commanded the Heats and also the pre-final. Except for Heat 1, the wrest of the Senior race was wet. In the Final, Mikko was pole but lost the pole position to Ryan Mumford after the green light at turn 1. Ede another My-Kart karter was following in 3rd. The gap between Mikko and Ryan gets bigger by the laps. Only towards the 2/3 race distance Mikko caught up and with 2 more laps to go Mikko was trying hard to over take Ryan. Mikko however failed and finished 2nd 1/10th behind Ryan Mumford while Ede followed 7/10th behind in 3rd.

    The Senior Podium Finishers were:-

    1. Ryan Mumford (Kosmic, I think)
    2. Mikko Nassi (Swiss Hutless)
    3. Massadenal Ali (Kosmic)
    4. Fariz Fauzy (CRG)
    5. Luis Amirol (Swiss Hutless)

Full result can be viewed at

    http://kkswp.mylaps.com

As it was raining I did not taped the Final, which I regretted. I have part of the Junior Pre-Final. As mentioned all the senior races were ran in wet except for Heat 1. So no Senior race was recorded also.

It is also possible that the drivers were warming up the engine to the optimum temperature quickly by covering the radiator.

The 3rd Round of the AMC in Surabaya saw Hasif finishing 5th in the Final. Ikhwan had an accident in the Pre-Final in lap 2, after starting from the 5th grid and finished 13th.

Surabaya Kenjeran Park Circuit is slightly above 1 Km with a 220m long front straight. New set of tires do not give much advantage as far as this circuit is concern.

Ikhwan started the Final in 15th grid and finished 13th. In the qualifying he was 8th fastest with a time of 37.4. Calvin Wong started in 1st grid with a time of 37.1 In heat 1 Ikhwan managed to work his way up to finished 5th while Hasif finished 10th after he went off the track. In heat 2 it was a close race for the top 5 racers and Ikhwan finished 5th while Hasif finished 7th or 8th.

In the pre-final an Indonesian driver Dustin Sufian close the line when Ikhwan was trying to overtake him which causes Ikhwan to spun. After he spun another karter hit his kart that caused the kart chassis to bent slight and also affect the steering column. He managed to overtake 2 drivers to finished 13th.

In the final Ikhwan only managed to take on only 2 drivers with his lame kart while Hasif made his way up to 3rd. It was only in the last lap when Hasif was overtaken by 2 drivers i.e Rio Haryanto and another Indonesian driver who were following him for few laps.

It was almost impossible to take a full shot of the race as the pit area was located at the center of the track. There was also no proposer spectator stand that could be used to take videos. So there were no videos taken for the Surabaya race.

Mikko also had a problematic weekend. In the final race he had his clutch to failed him. Maybe he could tell the story better.

The next AMC round which is the Final round will be held in Sepang on the 8th and 9th September.

The next RMC Round 3 will be held in the next 3 weeks on the 21-22/7/2007.

Hope to see some of my-karters to race in the 3rd round of the Malaysian RMC. See you guys there…
