Participantas mentioned before, the driving techniques varies from kart to kart…..applicable to 80 & 100cc.
the key is to adapt your driving style to suit, which takes experience.
on some 80cc, yes – there’s no brakes needed even for hairpins…..I say SOME karts again.

ParticipantGuys,
pardon me cos it’s late…130am and I am downunder but
WHERE THE HELL IS THE GUY WHO ASKED THIS QUESTION?
Alvin I must tell you is a graduate from Razman’s ipoh karting clinic, aspires to be a racing driver and is finally making his move to join our races…..we knew his plan 3 years back – almost. ( i recall inviting him once for a personal coaching but he no take the offer )
I think if he gets his butt to any of the LRT or Kommuter station – someone will pick him up. Some kind soul extended the courtesy to Raphael, the French guy…am sure u all remember.
I just hope Alvin shows! for his own sake.

ParticipantSorry, did not post comments here cos I was waiting from Brian’s forum to come up.
yes, the instructors must first know sepang as a driver ( road car ) and 2nd of all, there should be some form of guideline for the instructors on what to look for, what to advise.
In fact, I would even give each driver a score sheet so he has in writing what he does well and what needs improving….
2 instruction stints only? I must have done 5-6 cos I was so blurry at the end cos one of the students car had a jammed window and I was suffocating!
hope the rest enjoyed this…I did.

Participant

Guys,
The 2nd round is this weekend at Elite as well……have a look! At Shah Alam – the AKOC & ROK Malaysia event will also run….
Cheers,
Jules
why laa two major karting events on the same weekend?? we do not really have a large pool of karters to start with.
That reflects the sad state in our Motorsports fratenity – no one wants to back down and chance, hence this case….anyway one’s International status and the other National.
Nevertheless, I really hope this was avoided ( the date clash ).
Anyway, anyone went to the Yamaha event? I was only at the International event….

ParticipantGuys,
Pls think smaller……..for this to work – let’s concentrate on something that is plentiful and cheap.
For a start, it is very unfortunate to see that if it’s ain’t open wheeler, then it’s ain’t fast……so that really limits us to Formula cars.
What do have? Formula Fords, Formula Malaysia ( the Hayabusa ) and Formula Campus, Formula Asia 2000 & Formula BMW.
1) F Ford – plentiful in Europe, UK, Australia, NZ but none here. why? maybe the Ford engine is not so popular here….
2) F Malaysia – nice start by Silverstone but it never went beyond the F1 support race. why? money? The Hayabusa engine is certainly a rarity here as well.
3) F Campus – it was THE formula car to drive before the Hayabusa and BMW came along but sadly now, no more. I did hear Syafiq Ali is driving one soon but dunno if in Malaysia.
4) F BMW – everyone wants this now….but it ain’t cheap.
5) F Asia 2000 – now no more since F BMW came along…also runs a 2000cc Ford engine. So guys – u see all except no. 1 was tried and never took off unless u have $$$$, backer for a championship etc. For the guys who has the $$$, why should he re-invent the wheel? He better go F BMW or F Renault.
If you ask me – we should do a Formula Proton ie. using Proton 1.3 Isawara engines ( cheap, plentiful ) and mate this to a chassis. What chassis? I dunno but I know in Thailand they have a quite a success running the Toyota GT 1500cc twin cam engine in a space frame chassis – they call this Junior GT. It comes in a Le Man style bodywork, like the Radical ( I have pictures )
The wide body work gives u advertising space – more than your average formula car…certainly more than ur atom ariel.
Until someone does this properly, reasonably and have the drivers to compete in a TELEVISED championship…we all can rave and dream how sexy, goovy an atom ariel is.
Guys – it’s better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow…..which is what driver development is all about! The tools of his trade ( his ride ) is secondary….

Participantyes rm170 is per car ( for one driver….ideally ). Reasonable price when u know its RM150 for OPEN TRACK DAY. This includes lunch and free rides…( if u want and can get one…SAVVY )
Jules
Participant
Thanks for the support guys. Yes, will be needing instructors. Jules, Jason, Alvin and all those that helped on the Peugeot track day are invited to be instructors for the event. I will be sending out an email to you, but very quickly, the instructors will run for free in exchange for helping out with the Group 1 drivers.
For other, yes, the cost is RM170 and includes lunch. Trying to get catering by La Bodega.
I will update the HPC website with the list of entrants, instructors and car clubs over the weekend. I am limiting the number of participants in each group to 40 in the interest of safety and to ensure open tracks for you guys to really enjoy your cars.
Take care,
Brian
Brian,
Thanks – Jason, Alvin & myself will be there to assist. Yes, a briefing via mail needed. Awaiting instructions.
regards,
Jules.Jules
Participantcalling Jason, calling Jason……I m keen!!! no instructors needed? he he he
Jules
ParticipantIf I read the Brian’s website correctly, its RM170 per driver, guest ( passeangers ) are free.
However all should be wear helmets – as far as I know.
Guys – any of you coming???? There will be test drive and rides available on the Savvy and Elise too. I am sure some of the MCS gang here are keen…..
Brian, well done!

ParticipantThe Genting Race was organised by City Karting……it was of course sponsored by Genting and Mr Alex Yoong was to have graced the opening ceremony…..he could not make it as I recall.
Mikko Nassi raced there, so maybe he can share his experience. Driving a 125 there was not easy.
A few years back, a full competition race along the beachfront road at Johor Baru was also held……
I know we can all dream but this ( street course ) requires far more logistic and connections to pull off…..
Jules
Participantwhere ever u want it, please choose a place with NO KERBS…..car parks around KLCC have them so they wun be safe. ( good for demo but not racing )
just my 2 cents.
Jules
Participantin 2002 ( not exactly sure ), the Astro held a challenge along the Bintang Walk. ( simple course, but I never saw it myself )
U want exotic? – there was a full 125cc race along the undulating streets of GENTING HIGHLAND….yes, the normal road around the casino. Bent shafts from kerb crashes – common. I chicken out on that event.
Heard it was damp, cold but exciting! Monaco style.
Jules
ParticipantYes, improvement MUST be made and I am most willing to assist in the dialogue with Uncle.

Participant
However, out of the many problems, I thought chains ‘putus’and ‘brakes tak makan’ or sprocket ‘dah habis gigi’ are the three common occurances that can easily be detected and rectified.
At least I get specific complaints here. Can I suggest the following self checks?
1)Chain putus….not easy to detect but a close view of the chain OUTER edges give you a clue.
2)Brakes tak makan – this one, we discussed many times – please test brakes and ensure pads have plenty meat before your race!
3)Sprocket no teeth – this is easiest to see and verify. If teeth very short and shiny, dun use the kart. If not sure, see the karts around you.
At end of day, if you NOT happy with kart – change the kart. You are ENTITLED to do so provided there is enough spare karts – BEFORE your race starts. If not, speak to Fazz – show him why we need to hold race to change the items. I recommend you be picky in your finals race….earlier is at your own choice.
Dun complain when your kart fails esp if you did not check your ride over.
Guys, hire kart are hire karts – no matter how much you pay, an element of luck is always there.
