Not using brake? Do you mean at certain corners, you lift off the throttle a bit and let the kart slide around? Doesn’t sliding make you slower and you should drive kart around corners without sliding?
Hmmm, maybe I’m too slow and that’s why I don’t need brakes!?
Yup, at certain corners you manipulate the throttle input to go round the corners and try to avoid sliding as much as possible.

It is different in 100cc, as it has more power, sometimes I use the rear power slide (rear wheel steering) to come out of a corner.
Is it true, no need to hit the brakes anywhere at all?
Of course if you slow enough! 😀

For 80cc, it is partially true. Depending on the handling of the kart, bad handling karts do need the brakes but good handling normally don’t need the brakes.
You need to use the brakes for attacking & defending + when using the track in anti-clockwise direction.
During the Team Endurance, one lady had her hair hanging loose, we immediately called her in (black flag), but she only came in after 3 laps. Apparently, she did not understand what black flag meant. I have actually just had a post-mortem with the C.o.C and the Chief Marshall. These are our conclusions and propose remedies. Hopefully they are useful for our coming activities. The new measures will be implemented next year.
Actually the COC did brief the lady drivers on these before the start of day events. I believe many of them did not pay attention to it.
This is where the marshals at the pit should pay attention to in any of our future events.
2. most of the drivers do not understand the flags. Mostly are from corporations which sent their staff or clients to take part. The remedy is to have different categories. Expert for pros, Advance for season karters like my-KART members and Novice for first-timers or those sent by their companies. If time is the essence than we may combine Expert and Advance categories.
3. to include important details i.e. flags, safety, tips (racing line and apex) in the entry forms.
Bro Nohad did raise the issue of drivers ignoring the blue flag. Our finding was that they actually did not know what the blue flag meant. Made some calls to some of the participants excluding my-KART members. Sorry to say that 10 out of 10 only knew what the chequered flag meant. We have learnt a lot now and for next year we will certainly be better prepared.
Very true unless they have followed F1 or any other races.
I know the importance of flag signals bcos I was a marshal before at Batu Tiga track (at Matex hill somemore). Any complaints from the drivers for improper or lack of flagging, the marshals will be called to meet Jeff Amin to have a cup of coffee.

To have different categories can be good or not so good.
Good in the sense of safety.
Not so good in the sense (of course not in a pure professional league) that newbies (unless they have not driven a kart or racing any vehicle before)would not get to get a chance to compete in a very competitive environment and might not get a real racing experience and learn from there.

I do face the same problem when I planned to organise a company go-kart event before and I have to screen every registered participant of their experience.

Just my 2 sen worth of opinion.

Was at the track by 7.50am to ensure that Team USJ comprising of Naza, Tarmizi, Anis & myself does get a place in the endurance race as the event was over registered.

Was wondering what I would do until our race time at 2.00pm but the participation of ST & Azmee in the Men’s OPEN race practically kept me busy checking the timing of their positions in the time trial and at the same time observing for good karts + the opponents.

Allocations of karts are basically by lucky draw style by picking up a pin-pong ball with the kart number written on it in a bag.
Azmee started off in pole position for Men’s final but ended up in 2nd place due to partly on kart performance with ST ending up on 4th not before being caught in traffic earlier. Their lap times are in the 1:12 – 1:13 region.

An unfortunate incident occurred during the ladies time trial run for starting position. The unfortunate driver got flipped over after being hit at the back by another karter at the hairpin at the end of the parabolic. She was sent to the hospital in a state of shock with a suspected broken collar bone + laceration on her face + injury to the hip.

In the ladies final, Team USJ driver (Anis) who qualified in pole position started off well with another driver from Team OneTen in close pursuit (both girls are teenagers). They practically left the other girls behind with a fair margin. But unfortunately, the kart from Team OneTen left front wheel caught Anis right rear wheel at the parabolic turn and both spun off.
Both recovered and chased up and overtook the girls who overtook them earlier during their mishap. The girl from Team OneTen ended up as the winner and Anis ended up in 3rd placing at the end of the race but Anis picked up a thumb injury when the wheel of the Team OneTen grazed her thumb.

We were quite concern of her injury but she insisted of racing with us. Our plan was to start off with Tarmizi at the start, myself the 2nd driver, Anis the 3rd driver & Naza the sweeper. The endurance was to run for 100 minutes with compulsory driver change at every minute 25 with allowance of 3 laps to come-in. Fuel-up is compulsory in any of the pit-stops.

We didn’t get the kart of our choice in the draw and we got kart no.10 for our race (the kart has poor low-end power coming out of left turns + our fuel tank could be filled-up to ½ tank only before fuel start to leak out). The best choices of karts are kart no.5 (Siang Wei got it), kart no.13 (Team OneTen), kart no.14 or at least kart no.7.
We got to start off in 2nd position according to our registration placing with Siang Wei (Team Sunway Engineering) in pole. By the end of lap 1, Siang Wei was already leading by nearly the full straight of the start/finish. We were in 2nd placing but losing sight of Siang Wei fast. Not long after, Azmee’s team (Team Huru-Hara –they registered their team at the last minute) overtook us. We were not concerned of Azmee’s team bcos they are under the Men’s category as we were in the Mixed category.
Checked the computer display and found we were losing to Siang Wei by about 3 seconds a lap. We were losing to Azmee’s team by about 0.5 seconds a lap. A quick decision was made and we decided to push Anis to the 2nd driver hoping in order to close-up the gap between ourselves and Team Sunway Engineering in the 2nd driver stint as she is a light and fast driver. We were not worried of the next teams behind us as they were quite far behind. The next direct team behind us (more than 10 seconds) is Team Slow & Curious (Melvin Goh’s team) and they are in the Men’s category.

Tarmizi was called in when the pit-change flag was put up. Siang Wei continued for a couple more laps to capitalize his fast lap timing. When everything settled down, we found we were 1 lap behind Team Sunway but Anis managed to overtake the 2nd driver to unlap ourselves and managed to close-up to only ½ lap behind at the end of her stint. ST (Team Huru-Hara) was too far ahead to catch-up.

After fueled-up, I went out but had kart no.13 (Team OneTen) playing mickey mouse with me. I don’t know what is this team’s position or in which category they are in but obviously their kart no.13 is a more powerful kart as the kart practically pulled away or drew alongside me after left hairpin after the S-turns (remember me mentioning our kart has no low-end power coming out of left turns?). Moreover, our kart has no brakes and I couldn’t use the brakes to defend or attack and this problem propagates when coming up to slower drivers and hairpins. Another problem I faced is, the slower drivers don’t realized we are coming up to them fast as no blue flags were waved.
Using the experiences learned in My-Kart series, I managed to breakaway from him and leaving about 5-10 seconds gap at the end of my stint. In the process, I managed to overtake Team Sunway Engineering 3rd driver and Team USJ was leading in Mixed category. I was supposed to be the pace driver but ended up being the sprinter.

Naza took over the last stint but I was surprised to find that kart no.13’s 4th driver is Anis nemesis. Our kart was barely 3 seconds apart when we came out of pits but coming to traffic, their kart with a lighter lady driver (the winner in ladies race) simply pulled away.
I went to check the computer display and was surprised that they were ahead of us. How did that happened?
Naza even had a Kimi & Liuzzi type accident at the hairpin after the S-turns and we were lucky that our kart came out unharmed.

At the end of the race, Team Huru-Hara was 2 laps ahead of us.

Final result:

Men
1) Team Huru-Hara (Azmee & ST) 1st overall
2) Team Slow & Curious (Melvin Goh) 4th overall

Mixed
1) Team OneTen 2nd overall
2) Team USJ 3rd overall
3) Team Sunway Engineering (Siang Wei)

It was a fun day overall with exception to the accident in ladies OPEN.

Lesson learnt from this event, need more flag marshals who know how to use blue flag (to warn slower drivers that faster drivers are lapping them) when holding such an event or in our future events with slow & inexperience drivers racing among experience drivers as I find it very dangerous as the inexperience drivers normally don’t watch their back when coming to a corner and they could suddenly cut into your line when you least expect.

My team remaining 3 drivers have not driven in this circuit as they are not regular in karts… so they have some spins and need to quickly adapt to the track and karts in the early few laps… and this is where my team starting to loosing places…

After all it was a good race at the end and v have to be satisfy for 3rd as it is from the Team Effort result…

At least was able to hand some answerable results to the company bosses today!

Moral of the story, get the company to sponsor you all to more races!

Sunway Engineering would like to sponsor a bit of My-Kart year-end endurance bash ah?

report please! 😉
I heard team USJ finished 2nd, Congratz, team USJ Boleh
Yup, 2nd in the mixed team and 3rd overall.

But the biggest winner of all is Team Huru-Hara lead by Azmee 2104 BUAYA and ST Ooi.
They are the overall champion by 2 laps and champion in the All Men’s team.
Not forgetting to mention that Azmee got 2nd placing in Men’s OPEN individual event and ST in 4th.

Overall, My-Kart members did quite well though.

Yah! Yah! Yah! Of course you are ! when you get to blast everyone 3 seconds a lap faster in your endurance stint and practically left everyone 1km behind when you change driver. Anyway, congrats for the 3rd placing in the mixed team.

Great fun though. Report of Team USJ performance when I get back from Kuantan later this evening or kon Naza would like to do the honour.
