Participant
I tried the Modenas 115 cc kart today. was…………….
Long Live McLaren!
Long Dream Modenas!
I presume that the Modenas engine is a stock motorcycle engine and in that case will certainly not be able to match the Rotax 125. The Rotax is design for high revs (11,000 ++ rpm) which the Modenas is nowhere near, not even in the reliability area under racing conditions. That Modenas engine is bound to break relatively earlier unless modified and tuned heavily for racing. Well, I am all for the ‘trying to make it affordable’ effort but someone said “Speed costs Money”.
Long Live McLaren! (another one)
Long Face Modenas! (for now).naza
ParticipantHow did it go Jules? pretty sure that was you testing the Modenas kart with the redesigned exhaust system this afternoon? Compared to the Rotax 125 machine and any lap times for comparison.

ParticipantBuy the hailer now. My kart members can afford it . Recover the cost by increasing the kart rental fee to be collected on race day. Just a suggestion lah…can ah?

Participant
Fellas,
Problem is,not being a karter himself,he probably wouldn’t know if the units he’s bringing in is of any good, and I don’t think he will have the time to actually look for good units.
Any tips here…?
You are right there Ed, Let him bring in a couple of used karts first. The bottom line is whether it is economically worthwhile for the effort taken. The volume and demand will dictate the selling price as well as the condition of the used karts. In other words test the market with a few units initially. Interesting idea, imported used car yes, but have never thought of imported used karts.

How about the chassis – is that local too? Since the exhaust is custom made, it must be local – perhaps RIMUS brand?
We were told that City Karting will import the tubular frames preformed but will do the welding and assembly here thus cutting costs and acquire know how in the process. Indeed, the idea is also to keep the Modenas bike engine almost in original configuration to allow owners to do maintenance with the local motorbike shops. Yes, it remain to be seen how far this will be realise. What will happen when there are 50 or more mykarters with their own machines practising on the eve of Round No…..in category K2.1 Open Formula hehehe! Each having some secret enhancements somewhere. Look like Fazz will have to draw up new dos and donts perhaps.

Participant….even the front wheels got brakes..huhuhhh..wonder how fast does this thing goes??
According to Wai Leong, the front brakes were there fearing that the normal rear axle brake alone may not be enough to ‘tame’ the Modenas power/torque. It was subsequently found that, that’s not the case and the front brakes is not needed after all. The top speed can easily exceed 100kph; can reach 120 I believe, but there is not enough road to get to it anyway. The only ‘down side’, to me is the slightly lower acceleration for the Modenas compared to Yamaha 100. For less than RM5K and hopefully a much lower rental rate than what we are paying for the Yamaha 100 today, who would really complain?…….I don’t know.

ParticipantI would expect the new owner/operator of the Elite track to consider among other things spectator accomodation and what can be seen from the Grand Stand. The stand is ok but spectators can only see the start, the first cornor and thats about it. This I thought is a big minus compared to City Karting and Extreme Park tracks where spectataors can view almost the entire track and therefore have maximum fun. Renovating the stand to improve viewing for spectators is a must to attract them. Can be done but would cost a bunch…and haven’t heard of the next owner / operator yet.

Participant
bro – what is happening to Mofaz Elite? They no longer going to do rental business?
Fazz, I passed by Mofaz Elite daily to and fro work and is really sad and pathetic. 100 cc karts are gone and so are most of the mechanics that we knew. I still see a few fun karts but certainly no longer any corporate events being held for the last 4 months at least. The scene is definitely the opposite of the Shah Alam circuit. Its sad for me and Tarmizi because that was where we started our early karting days being closest to our residence. My-Kart club should buy the track lah! Well someday perhaps…..sayang..

Participant😛 In addition to what Fazz had said to prevent oversteering, a common error made by beginners is to enter a cornor at too high a speed and than instinctively slam the brakes to reduce speed at aound mid cornor. This will have the effect of reducing rear wheels traction massively resulting in the rear wheels trying to overtake the front. Tell yourself to brake before cornor entry and never in mid cornor and practice, practice, practice. Don’t worry about lap times just yet but instead practice to master the above technique which will translate to faster lap times anyway. Go for it !

ParticipantHi,
Just wondering if there is any more space for a 13th team or if we (Naza and/ or Tarmizi could fit in any where?
